seems like a good step in the right direction as far as designs go....

Yeah, I wouldn't mind those.

But, something's off with the faces to me. Maybe a little too human?

I think it's the mouths. But I love the texture and coloring of them.

That would work for the movie, but the faces are uncanny valley. Ain't no need fo dat.

The dead "game eyes" could be throwing us off too, Donnie in particular lol.

Here's a YouTube version of the trailer...

Ok, so they look a bit more this time, but something is off. *scratches head*....OH I GOT IT! The top of their heads are larger, giving them a more human appearance. Turtles heads are usually small and flat.

Thought these were cool...

Ramon Villalobos's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Are Cool But Rude [Art]

As some of you may have noticed, we've been thinking a lot about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles lately. I mean, if we're honest here, we think about the TMNT a lot pretty much all the time, but it seems like every time we turn around in the past few weeks, there's something new and awesome going on with the Heroes in a Half Shell.

Case in point: A new take on the Turtles by one of our favorite artists, Ramon Villalobos. Check out his awesome, video game-inspired designs below!

For his Turtles, Villalobos based their poses on the classic TMNT video game character select screen...

...and even put his versions together in an animated version. I think it's safe to say that I'd probably still go with Donatello, even though I'd want to pick Michaelangelo:

Sorry, Mikey, but in the world of a 2D beat-'em-up, the reach of a bo staff trumps the radness of nunchuks.

Here's a better look at Villalobos's versions, which include some awesome details. Donatello's built-in glasses and Raph's hipstery belt are pretty great, but I'd be lying if I said that my favorite part wasn't Michaelangelo wearing beat up Chuck Taylors. Because of course he is.

Quick sketch I did. Cropped it because I wasn't happy with the legs I did. I didn't want to go in depth with any detail. I grew up with the 03 show so I would like them without pupils, without them you can still get emotion through the eyelids or even a brow though that probably wouldnt be possible with mine.

I love those designs as well. For some reason though I'm really digging the game designs a lot. Those with movie level CGI could be very very impressive.

I love this! Definitely looks like he can kick some ass. A very DC feel to it - which is a good thing. :yay:

There isn't a manip thread yet, but I wanted to share a movie poster I just made. I just google imaged the turtles, so that's where that came from. Hope you like it!

Those turtles are way creepy. They look like monkeys and turtles at the same time somehow.

Funny you mention that, since I read they're gonna try to use the same method used from "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" for the turtles.

The cartoon turtles, and the ones on the first TMNT movie had faces that resembled frogs.

Maybe the old TMNT's costumes can be used for some kind of gag in the movie.

Those video game images just look way too mamalian for me. More like snouts than beaks (I second the "creepy nostril" comment above).

Just give us something vaguely reminscent to the original comic without causing nightmares and I think we'll be fine.

EDIT: still pissed off that we're getting completley CG turtles and not at the very least a suit with/CG mouth/face ala "Where the Wild Things Are". Would totally prefer a completely animatronic suit (seriously, not every f**ckin' thing has to be CGI in 2013) but, I'll reserve final judgement until an official image is released, yadda yadda yadda.

Since Avatar, the presentation of Hulk being continually refined over the last few movies, the work on LotR, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes, I'm not terribly concerned about the turtles' looks with regard to the CGI quality. It'll also come down to the design of the turtles themselves. Textures and color choices can make or break them, regardless of how good the effects are. There's also the cinematography. Looking at the 1990 film, or the gameplay from the upcoming release, they look amazing in a gritty setting with somewhat low levels of lighting.

As for the look and design, I'm hoping for something along the lines of the current IDW run.
