I've been at this job for 13 years and I've been getting retirement since I was 23. It's not something I can just up and walk away from as I've made it my career. There's a lot of benefits and the like that I just don't want To throw away.

I complain but I honestly like my job. I really enjoy what I do and the patrons I've met along the way as well. However if we were public sector rather than private (govt), the people who are not doing their jobs right or who continue to mess up would've been fired a long time ago. Instead, the government seems to promote when punished once you get to a mgmt position.

The crew I'm on is basically behind the scenes trying to fix and correct as many of these problems as we can but its just frustrating for us going week to week not knowing what schedule we will have. We have gotten a lot done truly, but I was just very frustrated since one of the managers (whose problems and mistakes we have been working on throughout) throws us under the bus to the top managers saying we aren't doing enough or even blaming some of the stuff he's done on us, when there is no way we could've done it to begin with.

Ah, I see, I see. Is there the possibility for interdepartmental transfer? Or at the very least, how is the upward mobility there? Any chance of promotion?

Still, I do think it's a good idea to have an eye on other opportunities, even if you don't intend to follow up on them, since ya never know. Either way, I'm rooting you.

there is a chance for promotion and/or transfer. if i hold this position for 6 more months (might be 12, have to double check), then i am eligible to apply for positions that are 2 pay grades higher than i am (aka MGMT yay).
i know for sure that in January I am getting a Step and one, possibly two pay raises. One being a CoLA (cost of living adjustment for those who don't know), and a time-in-grade raise. So potentially come January, I am looking at anywhere from a $.17 to $1.00 raise per hour
