This may sound dumb, but has anyone tried to do the magic trick at least try to get a pencil to stand up like that?

It was a trick pencil. That probably why it stood up like that, and why it didn't break when it hit Gambol's man. Probably why it went through, too.

I'm not wondering how he got it to stand up like that, Im wondering how he got it through a mans head without breaking.

& I'm Wondering How A Multibillionaire Playboy Runs Around In The Night Without Anyone Noticing..

People trip and fall onto the eraser-ends of pencils all the time. Anyway, if you're going to be wondering how the hell something happened in the movie, wonder how Harvey Dent can talk with half his mouth missing.

Or how Bruce managed to hack into every cell-phone in Gotham and wire them to emit sonar waves, which cell-phones can't actually do.

The Pencil was The Joker's right?, who's to say it was a dummy pencil made of metal/plastic/something else

Well, the magic trick. He made the pencil stand from the eraser end. That, or it was a trick-pencil like TheDarkKnigh08 said, but I really believe it stood from the eraser end. Also, the sharp end of the pencil went to the eyes of that man.

About the Harvey Dent thing, he talked diferent when he was Two-Face. For the sonar thing, he put that device on the cellphones, and then sold them. http://batman.wikibruce.com/Wayne_Enterprises_Invests_in_Cutting-Edge_Technology

the joker had good aim and no resistance from gambol's man, had he squirmed i don't think it would've went in like that.

He took Gambol's man by surprise, and was able to get him right in the eye. Even with the eraser end, that would most likely still f**k your ass up.

I though that he bashed the pencil (sharp end) into the table to make it stand up, then when he bashed the guy on the tabe, it would have stuck in2 his eye either way... or even gone into his mouth and choked him...

It happened so fast I couldn't tell where it went, the guy's forehead or his eye.

In the space of a few days?? And does everyone in Gotham carry Nokias?

The sonar aspect was lame and should have be replaced with a more traditional (and believable) idea that would set up a finale.

The deal with the cell phones was way over the movie had started. It was on the viral campaign. Also, do you know how many cell phones get sold in one day?

Yeah I'm fairly certain it was actually the eraser end that went through the guys eye. He got it to stand up by stabbing the sharp end into the table. In fact, you can see little shavings of the table around the bottom of the pencil. Sure you could stand a pencil up on its eraser (if it's still flat and unused) but more than likely when you're going to bring someone's head down on it, the sudden gust of wind from swinging him downward would probably knock the pencil over because it has no support. Like someone else said earlier, you don't necessarily need the sharp end to kill someone. With enough force, anything can stand into something.

He stuck the point into the table and pushed the guys head into the eraser...The pencil went through his eye socket...And died...

lol this thread is becoming quite rediculous.

Who cares how it actually happened, it's a movie (therefore it didn't "actually" happen), and it was a cool scene. Can't we just leave it at that? :D

yep. this has Mythbusters written all over it. so maybe we'll see a The Dark Knight edition of Mythbusters. like have 'em re-create the pencil trick, re-create making Two-Face with buster the dummy, and somethin else cuz i ran out of idea for what they could do.

the bone behind the eye is really thin, ever hear of a lobotomy? its pretty much an ice pick gently hammered on the side of the eye to the frontal lobe. so a pencil even being pushed barely passed the eye would definitely hit the brain and kill someone.
