I apologize if there's already a similar thread, I took a brief look and didn't find any.

So we know from the trailer that the mysterious Man in the Shadows is returning, most likely once again played by Michael Massee... But who do you think he is? I've seen a lot of people mention the Gentleman from the Sinister Six novels, but that seems seriously farfetched. For one, we must remember that this guy materialized into and out of Connors' cell. He clearly has a teleporting ability of some sort, which the Gentleman (or Chameleon, or Norman Osborn, or Richard Parker, or Miles Warren as I've also seen speculated around here) does not.

If not for Electro being a newly-created villain played by Jamie Foxx, that's who I would've guessed, since the Man in the Shadows appears and disappears with the stroke of lightning outside the prison. Still... Webb has apparently stated that Mysterio is one of his favorite villains from the comics. I think Quentin Beck fits the bill for the Man in the Shadows.

What do you guys think?

I finally read The Gentleman's background status & thought his envolvement made for an interesting overall plot. Webb has clearly done a good bit of research into various stories that have involved Sinister Six & this route with Gentleman has potential.

Go check out The Gentleman's (Gustaf Fiers's) profile. It has quite gripping possible plot details & he seems indeed a very dangerous person to cross swords with.

Well if you know Marc Webb's address why not pop by & ask him?!

Just say you've been sent by Dan Slott on a secret mission to gain support for old fishbowl head. lol.

Joking really but if I were to meet him I'd defo ask him this.

The MIS scene we all know was created by some unseen force illusion etc. but if there was a door in cell I think the fanboy's out there would have seen it know. As said before I hope its Webb who has the main choice of future characters. He probably needs to convince Matt Tolmack, Avi, Sony, Marvel executives to agree use though.

I doubt it would be Norman or Richard simply because they are being played by different actors. Remember, we know that Michael Massee is the man in the shadows.

I want it to be Mysterio, but I have a feeling it's going to be the Gentleman. I'd like for Mysterio to be a bit younger too, the man in the shadows seems too frail. The Gentleman, final answer, Regis.

After hearing so much about his character, it makes so much sense for the man in the shadows to be "The Gentleman."

I'm holding out hope for the man in the shadows to be Mysterio. He's one of my fave Spider-Man villains, and given that this sequel is giving me two of my three "beloved Spider-Man villains I thought I'd never see on film" in Rhino and Electro, it'd be nice to complete the hat trick.

I bet you are very "EXCITE" to see this on the big screen! ;)

Well you can see Massee is in new trailer when you get to the plane scene pause it carefully to see face on guy on left attacking Richard.:oldrazz:

I think that he's Mysterio. Webb has mentioned wanting to use him and Mysterio could certainly pull off the "disappearing act" in and out of Connor's cell and the end of the last movie.

I think it's mysterio..No other villians in Spidey gallery can pull that off except Mysterio but that said the appearance is like The Gentleman..

So I think it will be revealed as Chameleon+Mysterio+The Gentleman all in one..

Think about it. Chameleon can change into any person..Mysterio can use illusions..

Combine them into one and make that person appear like The Gentleman...

IMO,that would be a masterstroke of a move by Webb..

I'm going with "The Gentlemen", based on what I've read about the character and how much it lines up with what they are potentially doing for this franchise.

Though it's most likely The Gentleman, I'm still going to say Norman Osborn until proven wrong.

when you put it like that it sounds like, the Spot...

lol

how about, Mr Big (aka Frederick Foswell)

or

the Cat Burglar (aka Walter Hardy)

but, if there going for a SS setup I am trying to think of who would be either the master mind behind bringing them altogether, or which SS member he could be revealed as ?

I kinda like this idea

Usually I don't like the amalgamation of two or more different characters. But in this case it would make sense in a way.

The Spot would be such a cool villain. Portal 2 style Spider-Man.

The only thing I don't get is how could have Webb revealed the identity of this mysterious character in some random interview, and he was meant to be kept a secret from the start. The most logical solution would be this character to posses some background of the Gentleman, and combine it with more popular character.

My best choice would be Mysterio! Because visually he would be something different and interesting. And personally I never liked Quentin Beck's character. Beck's motives would need a serious revamp for the films, so why not the Gentleman.

This little gesture he makes in the after credits scene made it clear to me from the first time I saw the film. It must be Mysterio :)

Also Otto Octavius, the Master Planner updated with the Gentleman would be great. Even Miles Warren.

The Gentleman, via Mysterio?

Agree. If The Gentleman planning to bring Sinister Six project for some reason (as we already see in trailer Vulture and Doc Ock forshadowing), he should already have someone to work for him. And only person who could perform trick from ASM is Mysterio. :cwink:

This is gonna sound a bit out there, but what if it's Venom? Maybe they're going for an older Eddie Brock who's already discovered the symbiote. He does say "WE'LL let him be for now" to Connors, something that Venom is notorious for referring to himself as, although that could just be referring to him and the rest of the sinister six, idk.

Gentleman would make sense, given the whole deal with Peter's parents, Sinister Six, etc.

Francis Klum version? Beck is the original but it was Klum who had the teleport ability.
