Marvel Films The Marvel Studios News and Discussion Thread

Deadpool should be successful at the boX office. Though I'm not sure how it will encourage/entice more people to check Brave New World in February 2025. Inbetween Deadpool and Brave New World are Kraven the Hunter and Venom 3 which are still Marvel movies.

It sounds like filming should begin for Thunderbolts before summer. I'm not confident we will see Blade and 4 in theaters neXt year, but who knows we are still in the beginning of the year. Spider-Man 3 could be released neXt year too, if they started filming before 2025.

The MCU as it was is so mudded right now that I don't see it being restored unless they do a full clean slate. There are three Sony "Marvel" movies that, according to the multiverse thing, are canon to the MCU *Quality TBD*.
The Netflix shows are now canon too. It's a mess. I don't see how there's any chance of saving anything. They f* up by branching into six million tangents.

Edit: Forgot to mention, but the MCU is no more. Technically is the MCM now.

The MCU is a mess because Disney is a mess. So many financial misfires of 2023, and bad decisions in recent years.

Just enjoying the fact that we got the First 10 Years of the MCU. It's peak. Nothing gold can stay.

Looking forward to Deadpool 3 nevertheless. However, I suspect Disney execs will edit/censor the hell out of it in post and reshoots. Just like the sanitized Kingpin and Daredevil on D+.

What's in the Netflix Defenders series that can mess anything up besides their initial plans for Daredevil Born Again that they had to reset when the decision was made?

With 3 movies set for 2025 (plus maybe Blade and Spider-Man), I still have yet to see them slow down and I wish they would just do that.

In the tv side, we still have Agatha, Ironheart, Daredevil and Wonder Man. I also can see them announcing a bunch of new shows before the year ends. I feel like 2024 is going to give us some space especially if ignoring cartoons like X-Men 97. Echo just came and went last month. But their 2025 line up is stacked. I don't think many people would really go see 3 Mcu movies in siX months next year in the cinemas especially with that line up.

Yeah, I've heard people complaining that Netflix shows are canon now in multiple place and I don't really understand how that messes up the continuity at all. They were always intended to be canon. Daredevil is the only only project I'm actually looking forward to

I still don't get using Sentry at all in a Thunderbolts story. Why not use Zemo/Citizen V? It's Thunderbolts after all.

For one thing, Luke Cage acknowledges Donald Trump becoming the 45th president of the US.

Well it was more than a decade between Iron Man 3 and that US President's appearance in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Number 44 instead of Obama or just some historical Presidents made into composite characters to fit in the "45" line of dialog. Not that I didn't ask about the Runaways also name dropping President Obama. And now with the blip into the future for 47 or 48 we have President Ritson.

Of course story wise any sitting President would certainly get blipped away for 5 years.

OK, but this season of Luke Cage aired in 2018 and infers Trump won the November 2016 election.

Getting rid of Kang does not fill me with any sort of confidence. Other than Multiverse of Madness, Quantumnia and Loki have been the only projects to set up the main conflict for the upcoming Avengers movies and now they're throwing it all in the trash. The fact that they were already thinking of moving away from the character after Quantumania underperformed tells me that they've become just as reactionary as DC. Kang was not the problem with that movie.

To be fair, we don't really know what this means in practice. I want to get more info before I draw conclusions, but it certainly doesn't inspire confidence

I think there's just too much noise around Kang for different reasons (on and off-screen). Maybe doing something different is necessary at this point and they need to reconfigure Secret Wars too as a result, who knows. They're certainly taking this year to put things in order.

Good luck Feige, it's a tough task.

We won't get the build-up and critical (and fan) praise of Phase 1-3 again.

Unless they wipe out the majority of Phase 4/5 characters that are unappealing to mass audiences and aren't working.

Infinity War (2018) was peak MCU. Every character in that film was a fan favorite and loved by general audiences. I don't see how it's possible to get there again when the majority of the current MCU characters are so divisive and 'meh' to mainstream movie goers.

We also don't have an RDJ to charm the pants off everyone, and to be the MCU's centerpiece.

I feel your exaggerating things a bit by saying the majority. Like who exactly consists of this majority?

The mass general audience. Voting with their wallets for theatrical. Voting with their viewership for streaming.

Based on the numbers, we can determine which characters/properties have appeal and which do not.

So...are you gonna list them or you gonna continue to dance around this then?

I'm curious if they will really stick to fewer annual releases.

Ironheart, Daredevil Reborn and Wonder Man already have footage shot. What If? season 3 already has footage released. I wonder if they are going to save half of those to 2026 and not film any new show neXt year?? Marvel Zombies is also supposed to come out this year?

For the people who have a Disney+ account and keep seeing new Marvel shows every 3 to 6 months being advertised in the home section, I doubt plenty of those people, would have more urgency to keep up with every new MCU product. It is simply too much and even now, with only 1 film coming out in 2024, it doesn't feel like Mcu is slowing down.

At this point, their cinematic universe is simply too large and some could see it being so bloated, that its not that interesting anymore compare to 5 years ago.

2025 will be the ultimate test when the boX office numbers come in for Brave New World, Thunderbolts and the Fantastic 4. If they don't have 12 ips vying for a movie slot, I would really suggest themto go back to releasing 2 movies per year.
