Homecoming The Mary-Jane Casting Poll - Part 3

I don't remember who suggested it, but I liked the idea of having Mary-Jane appear in this as a seemingly random girl that Spider-Man keeps rescuing, with the reveal that she is MJ coming the end with a reenactment of the iconic "face it, tiger" scene after Aunt May spends the whole movie trying to set Peter up with her.

The only issue with that would be it'd be a dead giveaway once you see the hair when he saves her the first time. :oldrazz:

True. Though I suppose they could make a joke out of it with the audience knowing who she is but Peter not learning until the end.

I know she's been mentioned before (she's in the poll) but I really like Zoey Deutch for MJ. She's 3 years older than Holland, and may be aged out of the role by the time they get there, but she looks like she can play younger if she has to. Maguire is 7 years older than Dunst, and Garfield is 5 years older than Stone, so the age difference isn't terrible. They'd likely have to bump a sequel to college for it to work, but it would be interesting.

She's 20, so I don't see what "would've been great"? She's only a year older than Holland.

saw the thread bump and thought there was like some real actual news. :(

It's strange that people like Liana for the role considering she looks so much like a young Kirsten Dunst and everyone complains about not liking her look for the role.

she looks the part, though that shade of red looks a bit unnatural.

but why are we discussing her? are there hints she is filming in Atlanta or something?

I think its just that she changed her hair color, and its been dead in here as of late. No real reason other than that.

Whether she turns out to be MJ or not, I really like that particular shade of red.

Never had an issue with her look personally. It was more-so that her version was beyond awful but I blame the writing. :oldrazz:

So unlikable and just a bad person within the context of the films. Why Peter Parker would ever go for her is just crazy to me.

MJ was a real weak point for me when rewatching the series. It was basically like Peter had a permanent puppy dog crush on her and we had to just go with it as the audience.

I guess it's kind of like in real life, when you are so infatuated with a girl you basically put her on a pedestal. She's so perfect and can do no wrong in your eyes.

but when you look back at it all objectively, years later, removed from all the emotions, you realize she wasn't all that and you could have done better with someone else. You really don't know why you were so infatuated with that girl.

Pretty much! There was like nothing there.. I couldn't help but think "you guys barely even know each other". Thing is in real life we eventually realize all that but in the movie universe they were meant to be together so it just feels forced.

I honestly feel like they had MJ remixed with a bit of early Gwen and Liz. I know I've read somewhere similar, but it's just so apparent when rewatching the films. That's why I hold Gwen in TASM series on a pedestal because she was an actual likable character and I bought the relationship between Peter and Gwen far more than Peter and MJ of the OT. Sure, there were some issues from the OT carried over here but the chemistry is what kept it flowing better.

Anyways, I really hope when the time comes to get MJ in this new series, she's everything a guy would want (for both Peter and the audience). If they can do that (while keeping the expected MJ traits), we're golden.

It is the opposite of the comics. MJ is the one that love Peter first, she just doesn't showed it because Peter is with Gwen that time, and MJ is a happy go lucky type of person.
