Mary Jane is arguably the most recognizable superhero love interest, I highly doubt they would racebend her. Zack Snyder didn't cast an actress of color as Lois Lane, why would Marvel do that for MJ.

Here's the thing so people don't misunderstand, I have no issues whatsoever with Peter dating a girl of color in the movie. Just don't make her MJ or Gwen. Instead create a new character that they can get some mileage out of. Subsequently they can put her in the comics or animated series, just add someone new to the mythos, rather than changing a long-established character for the sake of being politically correct. I'm sure some people are probably tired of seeing Peter go after MJ or Gwen anyway, so seeing someone new might not be a bad idea at all. As for the "chemistry test", that doesn't prove anything. "Michelle" can be Peter's classmate whom he has an early crush on, or his confidante of sorts or whatever.

The thing that really bothers me is that out of all the actresses in the world they got Zendaya the race thing really isn't an issue for me I just can't stand her.

But I guess we'll see, Black Panther keeps getting casting news while we're still waiting for some substancial casting announcements even though Homecoming comes out a year before BP lol

"Create a new character" Um, what about Liz and Betty? They can be this film's love interest. God I hate the notion of them making characters for the movie. I said it before and i'll say it again, Spidey does not need to have original characters created for the movie, he has the best supporting cast in the Marvel Universe. It's unnecessary and a complete waste not to use them.

And Michelle is fake name (Just like Manuel) used to keep the role of whoever the actresses are auditionimg for a secret so it doesn't leak out. Whoever Zendaya is playing will most likely be an established character from the comics. "She's doesn't have a big part in this movie but she'll become highly important in future films" that sounds like MJ or Felicia Hardy to me. As a matter of fact, that was originally the plan for Shailene's version of the character in TASM2, she was going to have a small part in TASM2 but play a much bigger role in TASM3. Could just be a coincidence, but still. I personally hope they keep MJ white too, but it's highly possible that they didn't. We won't know until we get more casting news.


Either way, we're going to find out next month who she's playing when they release the official casting bill for the press-release.

There is no reason MJ can't be black. No reason.

There is one reason. She is instantly recognizable. She is a character everyone knows about. She is not like Iris West or Tulip O'Hare, every person on the planet who knows about Spider-Man knows who MJ is. Mary Jane is "the" love interest. It's her, Selina and Lois. Therefore, I merely suggested to give Peter a new love interest and as expected someone decides to boil it down to racism.

Never cared for Craig's Bond. Never was fan of casting blonde Bond and even after he made few movies I still dont care. I could never connect to his Bond and his movies. I grew up watching Brosnan as Bond and that's my definitive Bond.

As for MJ. I hope they nail it. There isnt nothing worse to not connect to characters, specially iconic characters. If they feel "odd" or "different" from both look and character perspective it's instant casting mistake.

Yeah, she could work too. Feige wants to expand and play with Spidey's supporting characters, this is how you do it, by bringing more characters from the comics not used in the movies yet.

It's the same thing. There's nothing that defines MJ as black, just as there's nothing defines Bond as a brunette. If you have a problem with one and not the other, there's something going on there.

Emm, who says that? Who is the one to say ''he can't be this because so''?
As far as i know, a character is played by the best choice, and heck, why being blonde is such a strayaway from him being black or brown haired.

Honestly, Zendaya should either play Mary Jane.... or Zendaya. Yeah, Zendaya playing Zendaya. Or basically the exact same version of herself with another name. I don't see why you would bring in a popular Disney singer/actress/model if that wasn't the case. She can't play a girl next door or hang out with Peter and all his geeky friends and expect to come off as genuine.

I'm not trying to stereotype, but honestly, Pete seems like a smart, techy guy that has an appreciation for science and all its nuances (he had an Apple 2 in his room; I don't even remember what that looked like until that scene). He is going to have dorky friends I'd imagine. I can't see someone like Zendaya in that circle.

And the whole geeky kid lands the hot girl is overdone. Hopefully it's just a Spiderman crush if there is any romance angle at all, which I'm hoping there won't be in this film.
