'The Matrix' Reboot

Mm Will Smith was first considered for Neo..but that probably doesn't matter.

So Zak Penn's intimating that it's probably a spin off, maybe a prequel or maybe sequel. Not a reboot.

So yeh matrix reboot sucks but playing with the idea of a side story my brother and I had this idea inspirer by the Animatrix short about the kids finding the glitch in the building.

Make it about a group of "hacker parkour street teens" that find glitches In the matrix which they use to their advantage getting around town being punks until the agents get onto it and start coming after them.

As they are being chased by agents the good guys also becone aware and want to try protect them but because they are street punks and anti authority they dont care for who the good guys and the bad guys are and what the matrix is so they avoid both sides using the glitches as a means to escape.

Perhaps they accidentaly kill an agent which then opens their eyes more to the idea that things are not what they seem.

Just an idea we spit balled in a few minutes.

The Matrix: Rebellion ..The Matrix renegades...The Matrix: Rage against the machine.

On one hand, I think that someone with talent could probably mine a good story out of the Matrix universe but on the other hand even the Wachowski's couldn't really make the sequels work so maybe not. If this is more of a straight up remake, then **** no.

Since matrix reloaded revealed neo was only the latest "The One" you could easily do a new story fresh that also is sequel to trilogy.

hell they could bring reeves back as new the one since reloaded hinted all of the one were neo but have focus on new character

Michael B. Jordan?

So this is it now? In fear for racism every character in movies and games now should be black.

Black Neo, next will be black Superman, black Batman...and of course in few years a Pirates of the Caribbean remake with black Jack Sparrow.

But seriously back on topic: I never liked the Matrix so I really don't care for this one. Do whatever you want Warner...your funeral.
He's just as capable as anyone you can name of leading the franchise. WB isn't hung up on race, you are.

Hahaha, I knew if I wrote that every one will go all ''crazy''.

Lighten up, it's an opinion.

Ok.

Back.On.Topic...The Matrix sucks! Cheers! :sly:

They wanted Will Smith to play Neo first, but he turned it down to make Wild Wild West instead (oops).

Also if this is a prequel, or a spin-off set within the same world but with different characters, then that's a much better way to go than a straight up reboot.

Zac Penn just mentioned that's it's not a reboot on Twitter, and if they would recast Keanu Reeves, he would pick Keanu Reeves. So there's no new Neo if he comes back.

Secondly, the Wachoski's eyed Will Smith for Neo, and Sean Connery for Morpheus. So they never intended the races for its lead characters, especially original ones.

What bothers me the most is that you said it's just an opinion. It's not. It's based on your whims - on a lack of research and your own personal beliefs, and misunderstandings on how things work. Pendulum swings right? If you're expecting 4 paragraphed response that you'll half-read, thanks for light trolling.

What is a little disturbing is that a guy like Michael B Jordan can't win. The Internet says that roles shouldn't be based on race, only for the best person for the job. And then if Jordan is the best man for the job, the Internet says 'They'ee just pandering." Why does Jordan have to deal with this while Ryan Gosling (In whom I like) doesn't?

Lime, I don't remember you being this dumb. You seem better than this, and before you tell me to calm down (I am) or I'm over analyzing (we're nerds. It's what we do), I hope have a decent rebuttal than beating around the bush.

I've read Smith quoted as saying the movie worked out for the best without him in it. That upon seeing it he knew he wouldn't have been able to make it work like Keanu.

Seeing how the actors fit the roles like they were born to play them, it's really hard to consider other options. Stuff like Will Smith as Neo and Sean Connery as Morpheus look bizarre to say the least. I'm glad Will Smith turned it down. He was right.

And yet you cared enough to read the discussion in this thread and get all bent out of shape over something that fundamentally dumb.

The first Matrix is in my top 10 movies of all time, I'd totally be down with a new film set in the same universe but involving some new characters. There's a wealth of stories they could tell within the same continuity.

Well in that case, I'm on board. I love the Matrix universe. Even the sequels, even though Revolutions isn't on par with Reloaded. Another sequel would be my dream scenario, finding a way to work in Neo again. But if not, I'm okay with a spin-off story set in the same continuity.

I love how people were so upset about the possibility that it was a reboot that no one seems to care that Zak Penn is driving this whole thing.

He's just the Mark Millar, they'll get some real writers no doubt.

As for Jordan, black, white, green, colour out of space, I don't care, just be able to fight good. Donnie Yen in this film is a must.

It isnt a remake of 'The Matrix' but another story in the matrix universe. No need to be reactionary at this stage...

Reboot is a pretty broad term. If it's not a reboot or a remake then what is it? A sequel? If it's a sequel, then just call it a sequel. If it's a prequel, call it a prequel.

Actually, reboot is a rather specific term. Or it was until people started abusing it.

It's not really that specific. You could technically label a film that is a direct sequel as a reboot as well. I've seen it done that way.

The first movie described as a cinematic "reboot" was Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes. And it was a term that was really used because remake had a negative connotation. So reboot made it sound cooler and less negative. At least that's what I remember. We aren't REMAKING the movie or franchise. We're "REBOOTING" it.

How can it be a direct sequel and still be a reboot? A reboot is basically doing a new version of an IP that is completely different from the original version. Maybe not 100 % different as for example, the basic premise of the film would still be the same.

I've only seen "reboot" applied to would be franchises. Like you wouldn't "reboot" Casablanca. You would "remake" it.

The 2015 Vacation reboot was characterized as a reboot and a sequel to the older films.

I mean, couldn't a remake technically be all those things you lifted above as well?

Why can't you reboot or reimagine Casablanca?

You can't reboot Casablanca but you can remake it. Casablanca isn't a franchise nor has it spawned sequels.

That sounds like someone trying to have their cake and it too. I haven't seen it so what makes it both a reboot and a sequel?

Why can't you reboot or reimagine Casablanca?

You can reimagine Casablanca but to me, reboot implies franchise. As in prequels, sequels and spinoffs.
