Transformers The Megatron Appreciation Thread

Starscream is Kane from Robocop2. LOL :D

I thought that Kane/Robocop2 was so basa$$ when i seen it in the theatre. The last real ILM stop motion before CG took over everything.

I have no problem with Megatron now. He is in protoform and it would make no sense for him to acquire an Earth form till the sequel. So that is what I am expecting.

Megatron is definitely growing on me, and I think he looks menacing and imposing enough to be leader of Deceps. Plus, Hugo Weaving has the right charisma to voice this baddie. I just hope Meg will be come in part 2, and acquires a vehicle form (or two...it'd be nice to see him become a tri-changer). I don't want him to be protoform forever.

Looking at the International trailer, he just might still have a cannon. Might not be the one armed one but he could still have a cannon.

If only for iconic reference. One mounted on his arm. Even the new toy says his primary weapon is some sort of chain whip. And all the bots can form guns on their hands... so him doing it ain't special.

Gave up on this iconic reference long ago... so it's not a big deal.

you know what would be great? is to see at least one or two of the megatron bashers come in here and admit they were wrong.

i mean, i know it's been said before, but that megatron (the movie version, just above) is more megatron -visually- than the cartoon version ever was.

i'd just like to see someone come in here and admit that. kind of like when venom was announced for spider-man 3, and soooo many people swore up and down raimi would never include him. and when he did, no one admitted they were wrong, regardless of the circumstances.

so, yeah.

I've always liked Megatron's design from the get-go, yes it's different but it's grown on me. And now he looks completely menacing!

I admit I like his face, now that it underwent a major re-design. And about the body, meh... well it is his protoform, so yeah... I will have to get used to it.

OMFG IT'S KANE FROM ROBOCOP 2!!!
lol just kidding. I think hugo will be great. love me some menacing villain acting from him though welker should have been cast.

Trust me weysweed.
THAT IS DEAD ON !!!!!!!

You got your iconic reference right there. In the very first episode of Transformers G1, Prime and Megatron fight on top of a dam(there is a dam involved in the movie as well). There hands go in their arms and out comes, for Prime a glowing axe(changed to a blade in movie) and Megatron had a ball and chain.

Actually both of them have have cannons.
In the movie
Prime and Megs both change their arm into canons. Prime's aims and shoots Megs knocking him to the ground. Megs then aims and his blast is so powerful it sends Prime back almost a city block , knocking him out for a good deal of the fight.

That's not iconic. That's esoteric. Don't get me wrong, I think it's cool that they break out swords and chains in the movie. But Megs with his cannon is the iconic.

Whoops! Yeah, your right. Makes sense that it's not exactly Iconic when as far as I can remember it only happened in one episode, while the arm cannon is always there.

Someone here wanna post that Don Murphy Megatron wallpaper that was from his site? (as in, actually posting it and not the link)

I've never outright hated the design. I don't think its that bad, and I think it would look a lot better with some Earth alt. mode kibble attatched to it. Plus, I like the redesigned head.

I think Hugo Weaving will do a great job as the voice of Megatron. Part of me wishes that Welker had come to do it, but here's hoping that he'll come back to voice Soudwave in the sequel.

If he does get an Earth alt. mode in the sequel, I think Megatron should take on the form of the A-10. It seems fitting, IMO. They could also mount the canon it carries on Megatron's forearm as a nod to the old design.

I totally agree with Grievous. I didn't know what to think of Megtron's design when I first saw the images, but it grew on me. And now I can safely say I love it. Megatron is AWESOME on screen. Pure and simple. When he first transformed...oh man, it was just very cool. Easily one of my favorite parts. And his voice is excellent, very evil and beastly. Just perfect.

Megatron is easily the most intimidating robot villain since The Terminator.

I agree! When I saw that clip they showed on The Letterman Show, that showed Megatron talking to Sam. I liked his voice, but at the same time it felt a little generic bad monster. After seeing the movie, I loved it! Especially the line "I can smell you boy!"

I like how megatron was vicious as hell. But his design still wasn't great. There wasn't any distinguishable features on him. Everytime I saw him in battle, had to wait a few seconds before it would register whether it was him or Starscream. Seriously, for any of you that know anything about design, I'm sure you're well aware you can't just throw in chaos and expect it to be considered a solid composition for a character.

Megatron was such a bad@ss in this film, I just wish we could have gotten more of him. I thought it was amazing when he transformed into the Cybertronian jet, and his voice was great. Definitely one of my favorite TF's in the film.

I would keep Megs exactly the same as he was in the movie except add the big cannon to his arm, its just so much a part of who Megatron was, he can still be a jet and have his fusion cannon
