So, serious question here:
Tonight I went to the park with my sons (18 and 16) and played pickleball. The courts were really crowded. But there was one group of college kids there consisting of three boys and a girl. One of the guys was insane. Throwing his racket, screaming, dropping f-bombs right and left. At one point he yells at the girl who was on his team telling her to “shut up you fat b—“

At that point, I had had enough and was about to intervene. But my sons tried to talk me off the ledge.
The kids left after they saw me starting their way.

Was I in the wrong? Am I wrong for being a little disappointed that my sons weren’t comfortable with intervening in that moment? What is appropriate in that situation?

It was just a troubling night all around.

You did nothing wrong, but as others have mentioned, living in a lawless land where every dink has a gun makes any reasonable, civilized confrontation very fraught.

I would have and have done the same thing, but handguns are illegal here and I don't have to worry about some boor pulling a firearm on me if I ask them to behave.
