The new creatures, will they look creepy enough to match the ones from the first film

I agree and were you aware that Rupert is actually English? I was completely unaware of this until someone told me. He hides his accent so well that I actually thought he was American until told otherwise. If you watch the cast commentary you'll get to hear his accent and quite frankly I find it very charming.

>^^<

OMG i would NEVER have guessed he was English, thats a great US accent he puts on then, another sign of his good acting. Shame he's never got another chance in a movie, i would have liked to see an appearance in HB 2 also, even if it was a brief one.

Well i didnt think RE's acting was bad at any point in the movie, in fact in some scene's i thought he acted very well. And IMO he was necessary for us to have a human connection to the characters.

I that his acting was stiff, boring, and terrible. His character was totally wooden. He was just this vanilla, plain-jane character. I think one script review mentioned that Myers was this gigantic Hellboy fanboy growing up. The movie went nowhere with this angle other than a hint of Myers having a pre-existing knowledge of Hellboy before they met.

And the even dumber thing about it was that he's supposed to be Bruttenholm's replacement? WTF?! And Hellboy's babysitter? Eh-eh.

Hellboy needs no babysitter.

Once again, you need to look no further than the fact that Myers has been ejected from Hellboy 2. It's basically Del Toro's way of owning up to this.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy Rupert's acting, but while Broom said he wanted Myers there to help guide HB, he never said he would be Broom's replacement. I believe the quote is, "You will help him, in escence, to become a man." Job well done, I say.

As for HB needing a baby sitter, it's not that HB needs someone to watch over him, the Nanny Squad was there to try and keep him out of the public eye is all.

Myers was a way to bring us into HB's world and I feel he did an excelent job. I'm sorry you don't feel the same way.

>^^<

^Well i feel the same way as you SC, i thought Rupert did a very good job.

If Del Toro truly agreed with that, then he would be in the second movie.

That simple.

^Well as GDT said, Hellboy wont need a minder anymore as he is going to be in the public eye virtually from the get go.

Listen, I don't know what your beef is with John Myers/Rupert Evans, but at this point, I'm not caring. You've made your point, now move on with your life. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm tired of you derailing this thread every chance you get to go on about Myers. This is supposed to be about the critters that will be in the next movie, not your personal gripe board.

So, to get back on topic, here's a little nugget I found:
GDT tells IGN that Hellboy 2 is in preproduction and Francisco Ruiz Velasco, Wayne Barlow, Ty Ellingson, and Mike Mignola are designing creatures right now.

>^^<

Francisco Ruiz Velasco is a great artist, but I don't really see what he brings to the table in terms of creature design work. Unless GDT mentioned him just as a "he's working on this too", not necessarily that he's working on the creature bits.

Francisco has done good work on the Lone Wolf and Cub comics so, I suppose he could draw up some good costume designs for the human and elf characters, etc. But I havn't really seen any of his monster work that stood out to me.

I'm sure GDT has picked the right people for the job, he seems to know a lot about Hellboys world and what it entails.

The actual truth is that sometimes he picks folks because he wants to work with them, not because they are the right person for the job. Velasco is a great artist, makes beautiful artwork, but that doesn't mean he's the right guy for the job.

I'm not downing the artist btw. Just wondering aloud what he was hired for.

He was hired because Guillermo thinks he'll bring something wonderful and original to the film - so therefore Guillermo hired him because he thinks he's right for the job AND wants to work with him. It is purely subjective, just as one person favours Van Gogh and another Velaquez. Both are brilliant, but peoples' tastes vary. I'll be interested to see what Velasco brings to the table on this one.

^Me too, the creature designs can only improve for this 2nd movie.

I know Spectral Motion are once more working on the film (they designed Abe, Sammael and Ivan the Corpse, as well as creating the Mecha-Glove) and they have the remarkable Jose Fernandez on their team. These guys are so bloody original it's frightening, and - as before - I'm pretty sure GdT will allow them considerable freedom, instead of being micro-managed to the 'n'th degree as on some films I could mention. I also hope he has DDT Efectos Especiales on board too (Kroenen). These are the guys who did the prosthetic designs for Guillermo's PAN'S LABYRINTH, and if they don't get an Oscar nod for their work on that film there will be no justice left in this world.

I've no doubt they'll be included on the film. They're work with him is too good for him to ignore.

Well getting the people who worked on the 1st movie onto the sequel can only be a good thing IMO. It will help with continuity between the two movies also.

Im a big HB fan but I was disappointed by the movie Perlman was cool as Hb and abe and liz were also good the whole thing wasnt apocolyptic enougth I thought. The tenticle beast at the end just appeared and then was destroyed far too easily and the sammael beasts just looked like men in suits - I was very disappointed with them in partuicular. The set design was very good as was the props, the mood of the film wasn't dark enough concidering the subject matter, hb is the beast for satans sake!

^Well, most CB sequels tend to get darker than the first installments, just look at Batman Returns, X2 and Blade II for examples.

Of course they are going to be creepy!!!, its a Del Toro movie, i saw Pan's Labyrinth yesterday and it has one of the creepiest creatures i've ever saw on a movie, and its not the Pan ;)

The Pale Man is quite the creepy dude isn't he?:cwink: To bad the movie's not going to be released here until the end of December. Very frustrating.

However, the critters in that movie is just a sampling of what GDT and his team can come up. I can't wait.

Yea, to bad for you guys, youll have to wait another month, but you wont regret to see this movie, is the best GDT movie so far, so we can only expect the best for Hellboy 2, at least visually and in direction, I don't know how much involvement GDT has in the script.

You mean it's beter than Cronos and The Devil's Backbone???? I'll have to see it to believe it, but this means it must be awesome!

It is a masterpiece in every sense of the word. For all that Cronos and The Devil's Backbone are terrific, Pan's Labyrinth is truly astounding. It is Mexico's choice for nomination for the Best Foreign Film Academy Award, and it if doesn't get at least a nomination (along with at least 4 other nominations, Best Score, Best Director, Best Film, Best Makeup etc.) then I will be severely dischuffed.

And yes, The Pale Man is quite the creepy fellow. He was very difficult for Doug to play, even more so that Pan, which had him in 5-hour's worth of makeup, servo's in his head-piece leaving him unable to hear, hardly able to see and also balancing on 8-inch leg extensions while doing huge lumps of dialogue in archaic Spanish. But I tell ya, Pale Man will freak you out - as will the magnificent Sergi Lopez as the brutal Captain Vidal.

Guillermo wrote the script for Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

PS - Pan's Labyrinth is out in the UK on November 24th.

I doubt it'll get as many awards as Cronos, but there is no way I'm going to miss this film! I hope it's better, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up just yet, that way when I do see it, I'll be even more amazed! lol :)
