Sequels The New Mutants - Josh Boone to Direct

I'm expecting New Mutants to be modern day while the old X-Men catch up. Seems the best fit.

I also doubt they'll use the original New Mutants.

I'm hoping for at least the new members from DOFP--Blink, Sunspot, & Warpath. The team members, I'm not that picky (Cannonball & Boom Boom would be cool too)

I'm betting it's set in our present, rather than whatever year it was supposed to be at the end of DOFP, just so we could get a younger Sunspot than Adan Canto, if they're going for a teen line-up like Apocalypse is.

Dust and X-23 should be New Mutants. M as well so much diversity in Fox there's a treasure trove of characters almost limitless.

I'd like to keep the X-Men "present" films in the "not so distant future." Definitely don't want to add a third time period into the mix of this franchise.

I also never thought I'd see Cypher in a movie before today. He has a tremendously useful power! And it's very cheap to film

I think they should save M for X-Factor. She's been the main female lead on that team for a while now with Madrox

cant beleive this will be a film. I thought they'd do it as a tv series

Brazil needs some representation! :woot:

Also, forgot that Shatterstar and Rictor were also on New Mutants. That could certainly be a great first in a superhero movie...

A mix of the original New Mutants and some of the already introduced mutants would be nice. Get the best of both worlds.

Were they? I had no idea. I'd be happy if they were included.

Ideal Lineup:

Admittedly, I'm pulling from rosters in comic & movie's present/future team in DOFP, so this is more based on powerset & connecting to other films than adhering to 100% accuracy.

I said this in the apocalypse thread but I honestly think it'll be a continuation of the Apocalypse cast. Prof X plus Cyclops, Jean, Storm, Nightcrawler, Jubilee and new mutants. Maybe magneto in there too. I doubt they'd introduce these new young versions of the characters and not continue with then.

Didn't the actress who played a Blink mention she was signed for multiple films?

It could have Warpath, Blink and Sunspot return but from the new timeline not the dystopic future timeline

It could theoretically be th title of the next X-Men movie. Doubt it though since it's mentioned as a spin-off

Spin-off indicates not replacing current X-Men. I too doubt they'll get rid of Sheridan and the rest and move to the future

I'd prefer the original line up:
Cannonball
Dani
Sunspot
Wolvesbane
Karma
Cypher
Warlock
Magma

I'm extremely excited about New Mutants but I don't want it competing against Infinity War. X-Men v. Fantastic Four should be the 2018 film

Weird that they didn't announce the release date. Everyone is assuming it will be the 2018 slot.

I think the fact that they didn't give it a release date makes me think its not going in the 2018 slot, otherwise, why not reveal that with the announcement?

Also, I agree with others - I liked Warpath, Blink and Sunspot enough but I hope they go with a more traditional lineup of mutants we haven't already seen. Sunspot was a founding member but Blink and Warpath? There are far better choices for New Mutants...

Fox won't let any movie compete with Infinity War. The July date would be two months away from it and competing with Black Panther.

By next year the crossover novelty will be warn off with 3 Avenger crossovers and Batman VS Superman already selling that. Unless F4 somehow manags to make more then DOFP, whomever the X-Men crossover with that Fox owns won't add much to what something like Apocalypse will already make. That line up of characters is extremely impressive. No other Marvel characters Fox owns sells more then that team.

The only gripe I have with this potentially taking place in the future is that there's no potential to cross over with the main X-Men team of Beast, Scott, Storm, Jean, Nightcrawler, Jubilee etc. that are appearing in Apocalypse.

Why would you want The New Mutants to cross-over with younger Scott, Storm, and Jean?

It's just a pet peeve of mine with this franchises direction. I'm just not the biggest fan of having multiple X-movies happening in different timelines/futures. Just doesn't make much sense from a continuity/franchise/world building perspective to me.

That's why I was personally hoping X-Force would have been announced instead of New Mutants. Especially with both Psylocke and Angel already appearing in Apocalypse. Just makes more sense to me that if you already have the main X-Men anchored in the 80's, why not spin everything off from there and grow it out.

That's really one of the only elements I'd hope they'd copy from Marvel - everything there at least happens in a chronological order that makes sense starting from Incredible Hulk/Iron Man. DOFP gave them that launching point. Just my personal opinion.

Wasn't the main idea of the New Mutants to return to the X-Men's roots of Professor X teaching young mutants how to use their powers? Since we'll just begin to see that with the young X-Men in Apocalypse, the New Mutants wouldn't be necessary at this point in the timeline. It makes more sense for them to be in the present.
