Are you really surprised that Winick inserted a hotbutton social issue into Connor's past? I actually don't mind it much, but it's kind of his MO.

I don't mind the racial tension; it's always been a part of the character and, like I said, it's not at all out of the question nor does it conflict with anything we've seen before about Connor's past. Just because he was shown to be bullied for being a trust fund baby doesn't mean that he couldn't also have been bullied for his ethnicity...I brought it up just to be thorough, really.

What irritated me more was the "revelation" that Connor had severe anger problems as a kid; that's just a flat-out retcon that Winick pulled out of thin air and directly contradicts established stuff. And flat-out retcons always make me twitch, even if it's not necessarily a bad retcon.

Well, if it's any consolation, it also goes a bit toward mitigating his ******edly stupid decision in Dragon's Blood to kill the villain out of laziness. Taken in the context of Connor being a consistently spiritual guy who always valued the sanctity of life, it was really, really dumb. Taken in the context of Connor being a fairly enlightened guy with some serious anger issues, it makes a little more sense. It still sucks, especially since we never got to see one iota of follow-up to such a major thing for him, but it's a little better.

Regardless, Connor's dead to me anyway. Winick and Dragon's Blood have rendered him unrecognizable to me. I'm actually hoping he's just killed off so I can stop running myself ragged worrying about what new low Winick will drag him to next, much like I'm starting to hope Cassandra Cain is just killed off.

Another thing that gets me is that Winick very clearly read the same exact past issues that I did which cover these topics. Sandra is a little off -- a beleaguered single mom instead of the vapid hippie that she was -- but the whole idea of Connor being bullied, having an awkward upbringing, them moving around a lot, the revelation of his father from her scrapbooks...that's all spot on. Hell, I think I recognize that exact dining room.

How can you know so much about continuity and yet still like changing so much about it? It's like anathema to my very being.

Lots of writers do it, though. I guess that's what separates writers from us. We look back and embrace what's there. They look back and think, "**** that, I can do that better."

So are we saying that when Ollie was relatively fresh in the league and initially looking for Connor (what, three years after beginning his career as GA) the Robin was Dick. Then Ollie found Roy and sidekicked him, which was still during the Dick years as they were good friends. Then around 6-8 years ago Jason had just died as Robin, as Connor was just entering the ashram.

Did anyone notice among the continuity glitches in story telling that when Ollie was being told by Bruce where Connor was he was wearing his OYL outfit rather than his classic feather hat costume or even his Seattle one?
Further, where do the upcoming GA appearances in Batman and the Outsiders fit in with current events? Cos he's in his OYL later/pre wedding outfit there too, but it must be only just prior to his wedding on account of the reference to the league of assasins.

the suit you are talking isn't the OYL, it is the suit he had with the long-bow hunters. I think it's Mike Grell design. Does it help you a little in the chronology of the issue ?

man the conner being a blasnk slate sucks,... esp when if it were not for Superman he'd been dead.

Yeah, but what if Connor's brain blanked out as a result of how fast Superman flew with him?

That s**t would get you banned from the Queen house.

Nope,... too easy,... otherwise Supes could do whatever he wanted to you and then fly that fast with you to wipe your memory.

I just find it "strange" that a fatal shot on a normal human would also have a chemical coating that can null the charge of the neurons in the frontal lobes yet leave the hindbrain alone to where he continues to breathe.

Meh.

They did say it was a magic bullet or something. It's a superhero comicbook. Best not to think about it too hard.

It's Cloud Sniper, a new New God debuting in Final Crisis.

The longbow hunter one had the big sleeves on it. The one in #5 here had no sleeves whatsoever

You were right ;but I think it's a mistake of the penciller. In the chronoloy, that doesn't fit correctly. And I remember the OYL was a bit different around the belt.

While this is all true, it is very depressing:csad:

I don't really agree that Dragon's Blood ****ed up Connor. It was an accident in the end, as I recall. Could've been good with some actual follow-up.

It wasn't an accident, as I recall. I remember Connor's internal dialogue saying something like he could've tried to find a better way, but he didn't want to risk it, so he killed the dude.
