The Next "Blade" Movie...

They already tried Blade without Snipes: it was called "Blade: The Series," and it sucked. :o

Seriously though, Snipes is what made the series, and Marvel would be stupid to start over just because the third one had a mixed reception. If the brand still has enough equity to justify making another movie, it's so tied with Snipes that there's not much point in doing it unless he's in it. Either do Blade 4 or put the franchise out to pasture-- not every movie needs a freaking reboot every 10 years (in fact, almost none do).

What?

While yes a lot of the success is due to Snipes they shouldnt stop it just because he's not doing Blade anymore

Maybe not. But hiring someone with NO martial arts skills to play a character who was largely popularized by a martial artist was a dumb move.

Marvel studios will be looking at setting something up where they can create multiple sequels if they go the movie route which they should. As much as we all love Snipe's portrayal, he may be too old for more than one movie.

Michael Jai White would be perfect for the role. I liked the underground streets approach from the first two movies with a bit of techno-hip hop. Looking forward to more Blade in the future.

In case anyone's wondering, I posted a fancast for a Blade reboot @ **************. Click here to check it out.

And here's my cast:

Michael Jai White as Blade (Eric Brooks)
Well, what can I tell you? He's the fan favorite. I once had him as Luke Cage in my New Avengers and Marvel Knights fancasts, but in the latter, DDD hammered me that Mikey wasn't tall enough and suggested I go with Henry Simmons. Then there's the fact that Idris Elba is campaigning for the role. So, to honor everyone's best intent, I decided to go along with the group and cast him as Blade. But it is for the best, because he has the voice, height, and black belts in 7 styles of martial arts.

Morgan Freeman as Jamal Afari
With Christopher Nolan's Batman film franchise coming to an end, I guess it's time for their principle cast members to find new work. In terms of Morgan Freeman, he'd be perfect as the man who Blade rescues and, in return, offers to help him.
http://media.**************.com/images/users/uploads/14595/JA-MF.jpg

Malcolm McDowell as Quincy Harker
If you disagree with this, you have no taste in movies. Malcolm's career goes back to the days of A Clockwork Orange, and since then, he has played various characters like the eerie, yet sympathetic Sam Loomis in the 'Halloween' remakes, Principal Gibbons in the Emma Stone smash 'Easy A', and many more. His wisdom and sympathetic approach to characters would be perfect for the leader of a squad of vampire hunters.

Ethan Hawke as Frank Drake
I hear Ryan Phillipe is popular for this role, but I have him for Angel in my upcoming 'X-Men 2' fancast (see 'The Lincoln Lawyer'). Meanwhile, the best choice to play someone on the road to redemption is an actor who's practically played characters like this his whole career, Ethan Hawke. Proof: 'Assault on Precinct 13', 'Brooklyn's Finest', and 'Daybreakers' (this united him with the Spierig brothers; joy!)

Maggie Grace as Rachel Van Helsing
Some of you may recognize her as my choice for Sharon Carter back when I did my 'Secret Avengers' cast early this year. However, since Amanda Righetti is now playing the Ultimate version (the one with red hair), now I need to give her a new role. This one, little did I know that MrMurdockk used her already. But Maggie not only looks like the spitting image of Abraham Van Helsing's granddaughter, but I think she'd be capable of playing an intelligent role for the first time.

Damian Lewis as Hannibal King
I know people want him as Banshee, i.e. DDD himself, but I've got someone else in mind. Damian Lewis, to me, looks like the spitting image of Hannibal King. And unlike Ryan Reynolds, he'll be capable of playing it straight rather than a goofball in 'Blade: Trinity'. It doesn't hurt also that Lewis looks like a vampire.

Abhishek Bachchan as Taj Nital
I lack knowledge of the character. Therefore, I relied on teabag's 'Tomb of Dracula' fancast to find this actor. He's got an excellent build, and has a great resume in Bollywood movies.
http://media.**************.com/images/users/uploads/14595/TN-AB.jpg

Eva Green as Lilith
I think Eva Green deserves a better role than Scarlet Witch, and I've got a pick for the character that'll cause you to stain your pants at level red. I've seen that steamy sex scene from 'Camelot' that she was in, and she was pretty damn intense during that. And with that presence, she'd be excellent as the vengeful daughter of Dracula.

Ian McShane as Dracula
Dominic Purcell's portrayal of Dracula in 'Blade: Trinity' was a wet blanket. And it's sad, since his work in 'Prison Break' was surprisingly good. I can see why people want him to play roles like Scorpion for a new 'Spider-Man' movie. Well, for the new 'Blade' movie universe, I chose someone who can bring menace and charisma to the character of the mythical legend. Watch Ian's movies that he's been in: 'Kung-Fu Panda' as Tai Lung, 'Pirates of the Carribean: On Strange Tides' as Blackbeard, 'Shrek the Third' as Captain Hook... I could go on.

Tobin Bell as Deacon Frost
Now, I'll be upfront and say that Stephen Dorff's portrayal of Deacon in the first 'Blade' movie was really good. And he made an excellent foil that the character has been the whole time. However, for the reboot, I'd like to see someone who looks aged like the character, and who better than the guy who brought Jigsaw to life in the 'Saw' movies. Tobin has that very creepy voice, but on the whole, he can play intense and intelligent villains. For the film, I see Deacon Frost as someone who aligns with Dracula to even the playing field between him and Blade.

Oh well. It would be cool a Blade 4 with Snipes. It must takes place years after Blade: Trinity with Blade against vampires. No Nightstalkers, no Whistler's comeback.

If Snipes can't come back ('cause jail's problem), go with a Blade Origins.

In both case: Morbius as the villain!
i like that title for a reboot "blade origins"have a young 20 yr old blade and a younger whistler how about kurt russell?and morbius for villian

If they want a younger Blade I always thought Aldis Hodge would be good in the role
qswrvl.jpg

He mostly has played a jokester in Leverage, but he did play a darker role in Supernatural and a sardonic, kinda villain role really well in Friday Night Lights

While I wouldn't hate White playing him in a reboot, i'd rather them grab and up and comer or unknown that can act.

I would also rather see him be a bad*** vampire hunter rather than a super martial artist. Have some of that in there sure, but he should be using his firepower and brains to take down Vampires rather than just wade in and Jet Li everything.

Though I did enjoy the first one, I had problems with the way they did all of them.

Damien Lewis will always be The Question to me.

just watch Life season 1

This.

Snipes is Blade. It makes no sense to seperate the two because the character isn't big enough to survive rebranding (see the awful TV series) and the actor frankly has no career beyond the character.

It's not like Snipes will have much stock to barter with when he gets out of prison, he won't cost much and is very popular in the role.

I don't think Snipes career is neccesarily finished. Hollywood loves handing out second chances and giving comebacks (see Robert Downey jr, who kept being given multiple chances till it stuck). I think a lot of people in Hollywood feel Snipes jail time is completely unfair (unpaid tax bills are not considered a serious misdeamanour in Hollywood), and will be rooting for him to come back. Ironically, Jail has probaly turned him from a disliked Hollywood pariah whom few wanted to work with, into a Hollywood cause celebre. He may be an a$$hole, but he's Hollywood's a$$hole. And they like to make big shows of supporting their own if they feel they've been wronged by the law.

As long as he doesn't act the Diva, I think he'll get quite a few serious offers (ie, not Direct to Video, but legit cinema releases) when he's out. His turn in Brooklyn's Finest for Anotine Fuqua was critically acclaimed, and reminded people that he's a pretty fine actor when he wants to be, not just an action star. Spike Lee was trying to cast Snipes in a James Brown biopic before he got sent to the slammer. Big directors still think he's got the acting chops, so as long as Snipes plays it cool, he can easily be a big mainstream actor again. Don't be surprised if the likes of Quentin Tartantino ofer him roles that they believe can make him relevant again (and Tarantino loves doing that with fading stars, especially ones with an aura of "cool" that Snipes has).

The only thing that could screw him is his ego, but hopefully jail will have humbled him a bit. Also, the good thing about prison time for him is that it allows him to get away from the DTV action movies for awhile. When he gets back out, hopefully he stops doing them and goes back to making real films with notable directors like Lee or Fuqua.

I want to see a The Tomb of Dracula tv show, it could be quite interesting

If there ever was a Blade 4 part of me would be curious to see some of Goyers original Blade 3 ideas implemented. It sort of remind me of Daybreakers BEFORE Daybreakers in some ways. But then theres another part that knows that that would limit any sequels going forward. Cool idea but i'm not sure it could work. Maybe. maybe not.

I disagree. For one, I don't know if you would call Blade the Series a rebranding. It was pretty much a continuation of the Wesley Snipes Blade character, without Wesley. It wasn't necessarily a fresh take on the material. If anything, Blade got pushed to the side for Krista and Marcus. He wasn't even the star of his own TV show.

I love Wesley Snipes, but the idea that he and only he can play Blade severely limits the viability of the character. It's a restriction that doesn't apply to almost any other character, so why should it apply to him? We've seen multiple Batmans, Supermans, Bruce Banners, James Bonds, Jim Kirks, etc., etc. No, whatever Blade project comes out needs people with vision and committment like Goyer and Snipes had at the beginning of the franchise, and a fresh, updated take on the material wouldn't be bad. Blade needs to drop the boxcut. That was about the only improvement the series had over the movies. Though by the time another Blade movie hits the streets the boxcut will probably be back in style.

Like some of the other posts mentioned, its nonsense that another actor cant portray Blade. I like Wesley a lot, but Craig has stepped in & returned the swagger to Bond, Bale has done a very good job with Batman.....so why cant we get past another for Blade?

i'd like to see some cool new weapons in his next screen appearance..

I love Snipes as Blade, but I'm DYING to see a good Dracula film... A Tomb of Drac film could double as a reboot/prequel point

I thinkthat is a great idea. Marvel is now into co-existing characters in 1 universe, ala Thor,Ironman,Cap, etc. Why not start another with Blade & Dracula...maybe Moon Knight,Punisher.

Moon Knight would work as a good bridge between supernatural characters and more street level vigilantes

That may be true....anyway to include MK in the Marvel universe on film would be a step in right direction.

i'm over "Kung Fu Blade" personally

My sentiments exactly. I want to see a gritty Blade where he actually has to out think and maneuver more powerful and dangerous undead lords. Preferably with weapons, equipment and tactics.

The Vampires in Blade were little more than glorified cockroaches that he blazed through with a weed eater. There was nothing that seemed dangerous about them at all. He was only challenged in the slightest by the baddest of the bad.

I don't want to see a brooding black Neo again. If your going to redo it then get a fresh take on it. Keep the general look if needed, it has shifted to the Snipes look anyway, but do something different. Please.

I'm currently watching Blade: Trinity, and actually really enjoying it. I've yet to see Blade and Blade 2, but now think a Blade film could be good for the MCU, and hoping we get one soon.

Your watching the worst one IMO, so if you like that then you should like the rest. Dracula is laughable in Trinity.

I'd love to see Snipes as Blade, again, but is that even realistic? The man is pushing 60, after all.

I agree with this haven't seen the movie since it came out on DVD back in 04. My favorite out of the 3 is Blade II; I tend to watch it all the time now since it’s been getting a lot of play on cable again recently. As for the topic I just want a good movie with a good actor that can convey the actions scenes realistically. I guess Marvel will need a Whistler replacement since Whistler was created by Goyer for New Line. Marvel will have to worry about getting sued like they did when they included Whistler in the Spider-man cartoon back in the 90s based from Goyer’s script from Blade 1.
