Totally I and I am sure others are not knocking thst those names are folks Jeff has heard from sources for the erap. We are questioning is this list accurate and if there is other guys who are top contenders. The way his article was eorded. Pretty much left it in the air. Saying these are names his sourcesbheard. And he doesn't know if they test or would be offered.

I said it last night. Look at past casting short lists for cap star lord thor and even asm spidey. Those short lists. Stated each guy has either already tested about to test or where in talks with x studio folks. And the varied degrees that they where likely to nab the role. This short list says nothing. It's pretty much just Jeff hope list. No different then the many fan castings we all made. Or any of those silly non reliable fan sites have done.

My question is, do we know who's making the castilng decision (or who is involved)?

Kevin Feige?
Amy Pascal?
The Russo Brothers (who will be directing him first)?
Did they secretly hire a director (Goddard?) and he (or she) is involved?
Marvel main players like Robert Downey Jr. or Joss Whedon?

^ I doubt it, since they're not directly associated with Sony whereas Pascal and Feige (albeit on a completely voluntary, pro bono basis) are.

Maybe the russos (hes appearing in their movie after all) and definitely Downey..I feel like downey would be part of the screen testing.

Regardless of what people feel is the credibility of the messenger , I personally believe the message itself is accurate. It jibes with everything we've heard up to this point and certainly is consistent with them talking to a younger actor like Ward a month ago or so. Could the actor who gets cast be someone who isn't on the list? Yeah, but even then, I think the actor who is chosen will share similarities with the other names in terms of age and film and tv backgrounds.

At this point, I think its clear they have indeed been looking at teens as part of the search , so that's not even a debatable issue anymore as far as I'm concerned. That doesn't mean a 20 or 21 year old won't get the role, but its clear that they have been circling teen actors as part of the search so I think those reports from earlier this year were correct. Do I, think they've casted the actor already?

Its very possible though in this case, Sony and Marvel both have to agree with Sony likely getting the final say. Getting both to agree is the thing that makes me think its likely they haven't chosen the actor yet. They still have to time, so this argument about them needing to cast the actor right away and time running out isn't accurate. At this point we don't know how big Spiderman's role will be so they may not need the actor right away.

They probably won't start film the new Spiderman film until next January at the earliest , so they have time to cast the role .

Why would individuals not directly associated with Sony have any input into the casting of a character whom Marvel Studios is merely 'renting' for Civil War?

For sure Amy and Kevin are the ones invovled in casting. I wouldn't be surprised if russo's where invovled too. Since said pick is on there film first. But man I just love it all to end and we get announcement.

As for Rothman hasn't it been said he doesn't have any hand in this. And I doubt he would. He isn't the only one in charge of sony. And no reason he should have hand in casting. It's not his call. All he needs to do is hire crew sign off on budgets and what not.

Frodo they don't have alot of time to keep debating on casting. Actor is going to be in civil war. And we already know it starts shooting next week. And will be filming to atleast aug. And if Jeff bit in his article is right and spidey shoots scenes in june.

Again who ever is picked can't just be signed today for example and go shooting the next day. They would have to work out scheduling for said actor and scenes with others. Does actor need any special training or workout training. They have to go through costume fittings and all that. These things take more then a day or two or weeks. These things are done for at least awhile before filming hapoens. Even if said actor isn't on shoot of a project to a later point.

Why not? Sony is consulting Marvel for the movies. They're working together on this and lets not forget that his solo movies are still part of the MCU. I'm not saying they'd be directly part of the process. Feige would probably consult with his guys (possibly including the russos) and then work with sony. Plus sony wanted to use Iron Man right, and Feige wants a funny guy. That's how I put 2 and 2 together and thought they'd wanna test the actor with RDJ

@Webhead: Rothman is the new top executive at Sony (replacing Pascal), and the person to whom both Feige and Pascal are directly reporting. That's why he has final approval on the casting.

@NotSoLongAgo: Spider-Man may be appearing in Civil War, but his casting is being handled by Feige and Pascal as employees of Sony.

There's a misconception. He suggested him, Lerman, and Elgort for Edgar Wright's Baby Driver.

But I think he likes O'Brien nonetheless so it would surprise me if he'd lobby for him to get the role.
