Digi we also know he isn't the only one in charge he shares position with lyton is it. And they report to that kaz at sony Japan.

Regardless of what people feel is the credibility of the messenger , I personally believe the message itself is accurate. It jibes with everything we've heard up to this point and certainly is consistent with them talking to a younger actor like Ward a month ago or so. Could the actor who gets cast be someone who isn't on the list? Yeah, but even then, I think the actor who is chosen will share similarities with the other names in terms of age and film and tv backgrounds.

At this point, I think its clear they have indeed been looking at teens as part of the search , so that's not even a debatable issue anymore as far as I'm concerned. That doesn't mean a 20 or 21 year old won't get the role, but its clear that they have been circling teen actors as part of the search so I think those reports from earlier this year were correct. Do I, think they've casted the actor already?

Its very possible though in this case, Sony and Marvel both have to agree with Sony likely getting the final say. Getting both to agree is the thing that makes me think its likely they haven't chosen the actor yet. They still have to time, so this argument about them needing to cast the actor right away and time running out isn't accurate. At this point we don't know how big Spiderman's role will be so they may not need the actor right away.

They probably won't start film the new Spiderman film until next January at the earliest , so they have time to cast the role .

I do believe that it could be accurate. What I do not believe is that it is current. I just don't believe Marvel would hinge on a shortlist for yet-to-be-done screen testing when the part they're on the list for is set to start filming soon and no one on a shortlist is guaranteed to get the part.

I went and looked up Sony's corporate structure, and it appears as if Rothman may not have the absolute final word on who ends up being cast. However, he's still the person to whom both Feige and Pascal will be directly reporting, and is therefore going to have a hand in reviewing Feige and Pascal's suggestions for the role even if he's not the one making the final decision on the casting (Michael Lynton may be the one doing so since he's Rothman's boss).

If it's a choice of Billy Unger and DOB I'll personally drive O'Brien to the audition.

kaz hirai? the ceo of all of sony?

he wouldn't directly get involved with sony pictures. the rumors were that sony japan was angry that sony pictures wasn't cooperating with disney and was telling them to do so - if he wanted to get directly involved he would've gone to disney himeslf and shook the mouse's hand. instead, he told the spe peeps to make the deal work.

According to the corporate structure of Sony Pictures Entertainment, Rothman answers to Michael Lynton, who may be the person ultimately responsible for approving the casting of the new Spider-Man when all is said and done, but Feige and Pascal's choices for the role are first going to end up on Rothman's desk.

Ya all I saying we don't know what say or if Rothman has any say in regard to spidey. As folks said I think he was hired more so to help sony stop bleeding budget on films and get them back out of the red to turn a money phrase.

There's a misconception. He suggested him, Lerman, and Elgort for Edgar Wright's Baby Driver.

But I think he likes O'Brien nonetheless so it would surprise me if he'd lobby for him to get the role.
True... I didn't think of it that way.
If he suggested him for another movie, he not only knows about him, but knows what type of role he would be good for (e.g. spidey :p) and he would also know that he is a talented actor.

I know sony has final say on casting, but that's pretty much it.

As far as Civil War is concerned, yes; as far as how the character and other characters associated with him are used beyond his involvement in Civil War and other MS-produced films, no.

I meant spiderman casting. sony has final say on who gets to be spiderman.

^ I know what you meant. I was just pointing out that your statement is only correct insofar as it applies to the character's involvement in Civil War. :)

what do you mean? whoever it is that is cast for cap3 is most definitely going to be spiderman throughout the rest of the mcu films.

Sony's involvement in Civil War begins and ends with the casting of Spider-Man and the design of his 'look'. Everything else that happens with the character in that movie is in MS' hands.

Conversely, everything that happens with Spider-Man and his universe in the 2017 film is in Sony's hands, albeit with Feige helping to shape those things as their pro-bono employee.

OK yeah, I wasn't trying to say anything about that, all I'm saying is that I believe sony has final say on casting. that really is all of it.

Just wanted to make sure people were understanding the situation correctly. :)

BTW, the fact that Sony has final say on the casting of the new Spider-Man means that Feige will be involved with Civil War on two different fronts:
1) As a pro-bono employee of Sony answering to Rothman and Lynton
2) As the 'head man in charge' of giving final approval on the Russos' integration of the new Spider-Man actor - and his character - into the narrative of Civil War, which will in turn lay the groundwork for what he (Feige), as a pro-bono employee of Sony, later does with the character in his solo 2017 film

I'm not disputing who's in charge of what in terms of how the films are being made, at least not right now. I just want to know who peter parker is.

Peter Parker is Spider-Man.
:cwink:
Glad I could help. :woot:

@XtremelyBaneful: I wasn't trying to say that you were. :) I was just making note of the fact that Feige is acting in two different capacities on Civil War.

Another day, more Sneider bashing because people don't like what they're hearing.. :whatever:

I need to take a break from this place... or at least the Spider-Man part of SHH.

I haven't seen bashing today...
What were you referring to?

Sure you would...
you would do it just so you could drive off of a cliff sacrificing yourself for 'the greater good', wouldn't you. :whatever:
I kid... I kid. :p
