Homecoming The Next Spider-Man - - - - - - Part 15

Just like Iron Man and Peter Quill, Spider-Man is primarily a comedic, fun character and when needed, will get serious. RDJ is a comedic actor, so is Chris Pratt, and either guy can get dramatic at the right moments.

We've seen Dylan O'Brien do that in both Maze Runner and the latter of Teen Wolf season 3B, he'll do it once again in Scorch Trials.

I've never seen Asa do comedy, so I can't judge him on that front, but from what I have seen of him in interviews and such, he just seems very stiff, wooden, and awkward. He seems like a nice guy and is regarded by many as an up and coming star with great acting abilities. I agree. But just because he's a great actor... It does not necessarily mean he has what it takes to pull off Spider-Man/Peter Parker. Eric Stolz is a great actor and he didn't have it takes to pull off Marty McFly... Nuff said.

Don't forget Chris Evans, known more for humorous roles, completely toned down that side of himself for Cap.

Leslie Nielsen. Serious actor, turned funnyman...

But when he's played in these Naked Gun films, he's doing a deadpan routine, and it's also slapstick. It's a little different from rapid-fire quipping.

But it was his transition in the 90's...most of that I'd like to forget :o

I'm not.

Bro, it's like side by side pics of Andrew and comic Peter all over again. I'll feel like Marvel ****ed up if O'Brien doesn't get cast. The resemblence is uncanny. I say forget taking Peter back to high school, set the story in college.

Don't get your hopes up too high, Spider-Sonic. There are people on these forums that think he'd be good for the role, but Obrien probably didn't even come up on Marvel's radar.

I'd be careful saying that around here. His biggest fan is now his biggest detractor, and people are outright lying about not supporting him in the past now that he is supposedly not on the shortlist. You're simply not allowed to want Dylan. :o

I grew to like Garfield in the role, but make no secret the Maguire look and characterisation is my preferance.

Wanting Dylan is A-Okay (I'd be happy if he were cast), but the fact of the matter is he cannot pass for 15-16, and he is going to be working on a movie with Mark Wahlberg which shoots concurrently with Civil War.

It's just not going to happen. Also worth noting is how the ONLY "scoopers" pointing to Dylan are from reddit and youtube, and relatively reliable scoopers all point away from Dylan.

That reddit post is the root of all speculative evil re. this casting. People want Dylan so much they've deluded themselves beyond all reason. Go check out the recent comments on the thread if you don't believe me. There's honestly some posters there who are going to be depressed for weeks if (when) he isn't cast.

I liked Toby and Andrew as Peter. Hated Maguire as Spider-Man.

Spider-Man is going back to year zero. How did Peter look in 1962.

Just because he's going to be in high school again doesn't mean they're doing a straight adoptation of the original 60s comics. They'll want to do the most iconic version of the character, not a nigh-forgotten look from 50 years ago.

They have nobody to blame but themselves, really. Building up an idea in their head which never had any chance of happening. Good thing I was busy mourning the end of Garfield to pay the recasting topic any attention. I'd have no problem with Asa landing the job.

Actually, the Dylan hysteria began when Variety named him and Lerman. Albeit, in a casual "these guys might be considered" way.

Nigh forgotten? Pretty much every one (making film and animation) references the Ditko version for inspiration.

I can't believe I'm watching Age of Ultron tonight... And Spider-Man is somewhere in that universe swinging around in a homemade costume. It's surreal.

This is one of the things I hate about people who have "sources". It's one thing to adjust your opinion when you hear that so-and-so is in the running, because it suggests that so-and-so possibly demonstrates the necessary personality and traits for the part, but if there's someone else who isn't in the running due to age despite having the right personality, and if you originally acknowledged that personality, don't backtrack and say that he doesn't have that personality when the reason he isn't being considered is not because of that.

I've wanted O'Brien from the beginning and although it doesn't look like he's going to get the role anymore I'm still #TeamObrien until someone gets cast.

How dare you want Dylan for Spidey! He's clearly the worst possible choice! Grumble grumble grumble! :argh:

Nothin wrong with that

And honestly, I don't see what the problem with still wanting O'brien at this point is anyway. Sure, it may be unlikely (maybe damn nearimpossible), but things can always change. For all we know, they could decide to go 16-17 for the age instead, or their #1-5 actors might not be available. Not that they will, but who knows. So like you said, until someone is actually cast, I see no problem in still wanting/preferring any actor, including O'brien
