I wouldn't even call it suspicious because it's obvious now that Asa Butterfield, Timothée Chalamet, Liam James, Tom Holland and Nat Wolff ARE contenders for the role. With that said, as you can see above, there are already people trying to dismiss it like that would change the chances of the kid getting the part.

Dylan O'Brien didn't want to talk about it not because he was in talks, not because he is one of the actors been considered, not because he didn't want the role, because he didn't heard about the role "professionally" and if his agent pursued for him, she heard that they were going with younger kids this time around. It is what it is, and no, this is not about "broken your hopes and dreams", just applying logic to the facts instead of wishful thinking.

I think you're applying your wishful thinking. The truth is nobody knows why he was acting strange in that interview.

Here is how it works:

Marvel informs agencies that they are looking for actors, young actors for the role. His agent probably don't know that, but since he is interested in the character, if she ever pursued the role, what she'd hear from the casting agencies is that they are casting younger, just like what Logan Lerman agents REPORTEDLY heard. It is what it is, why to assume that he was been suspicious instead of understand that he was saying the truth?

Why are you even talking about this? All anybody said was that Dylan acted suspicious at Paleyfest... Then you gotta come in here and rub it in our faces that he was never even considered, as if you knew that was 100% fact. Stop.

It's really not subjective. He actually said "I haven't even heard anything about this...job" While holding back a grin. Everyone I talked to about it or showed the video too said he was acting strange, like a deer in the headlights.

Yes, now. There's no use to think with what you knew or "how you felt" back then because we are living in the present, and we know exactly why it's obvious that he was telling the truth back then. People wanting to believe that he was not (and I blame redditleaker guy a lot for that) are the reason that you're "keeping the hope alive" now. At this point, this is not different than hoping Andrew Garfield or Tobey Maguire to comeback and play a high school Spider-Man either.

I'm willing to admit it is looking more and more that the Paleyfest thing was because Dylan didn't get/was not considered due to age and had a NDA and/or did not want to talk about it. And if he was not considered due to age, that would be a shame. I think Dylan can still pull off a high school student, just make him a junior or senior instead of a sophomore.

Asa, to me, does not have the look. His blue eyes (I know that's superficial, but more often than not, he has brown eyes in the comics) and he looks really young (more like thirteen) and while I think Spidey should be thin, he looks to skinny, like a boy as oppose to a teenager. He may be a very good actor, but I don't know if he can pull off the charismatic wiseguy in the league of a Robert Downey Jr. or Chris Pratt. Hopefully, if he is cast, I am proven wrong.

Instead, I'm very happy to see more and more people coming around to the actors in the shortlist. I applaud Marvel for what they are doing and sticking to their vision. I don't want Dylan O'Brien - or Nat Wolff for the very same reason - playing a teenager when he looks his age, regardless what their fans say. Coaching "fast talking and wit" won't save Spider-Man from a bad script. A good director and a good actor will make Spider-Man be dramatic and funny when it's required. I trust all the four kids in the shortlist will be able to do just that, and Marvel is going to pick the one that they firmly believe will do the best job among them.
