This is the part where I disagree with you on the Garfield part because he did resemble Peter Parker

Garfield was pretty spot on. Asa...not so much.

See that's where the Ultimate line messed everyone up, even the animated series.
PERSONALLY I like Ditka's Parker over the newer Parker's.
To ME being old school if you will, I think Asa looks ALOT like Ditka, Garfield looks more like the Ultimate Spidey, and Toby the older college Parker.

I like Both Garfield and Toby Spider-Mans because they ARE different lines (with slight adjustments).

I gotta disagree with you on Garfield, even Tobey. I think Garfield looks a lot like the modern 616 Peter, I'm not exactly sure who started drawing him like that but I'm gonna say it started with John Romita Jr., which is also my favorite. Ultimate Peter has long hair.

I agree that Asa looks a lot like Ditko era Peter. I can't say I've seen a version of Peter that looks like Tobey though, not even when the Raimi films were relevant. The MTV series which is based on the Raimi films doesn't even look like him, then again nobody in the show look like their film counterparts. Oddly enough MTV Peter resembles Garfield more.

It isn't 'everyone' it is Variety and Hollywood Report saying that.
It should be said that both outlets were behind LR with the 'Spider-Man to the MCU' scoop and indeed many of the casting scoops LR have got right this year, including Black Panther.

Asa Butterfield is probably the best actor in world under 20. While he is an incredibly safe and predictable choice, I have no doubt he'll be fantastic in the role.

One more strenght in Asa is that he will be really intense in the dramatic scenes when much is at stake.

You all hate Asa though! So don't suddenly become his best friend when he's cast

I already want to be his friend. He seems so nice and likeable.

I'm warming up to Asa. Never really had anything against him, just prefer Holland. Marvel hasn't made a mistake casting their lead roles yet and that's not going to change with Spider-Man

Eh, I'll wait and see. The true test will be if he can keep up with the rest of adult Avenging cast, verbally. He's only 18, good actor or not. The rest of these guys have been in the game before he was born.

Of the two front runners, I think Asa is best. He just looks more like how I expect Peter to look. I can buy him very smart and geeky/nerdy boy. Seems very likable which is important. I really disliked AG. I'm glad they are going to younger actors to actually play teenagers and they are planning to keep him and explore HS more. They should cast TH as Harry. He seems more like Harry to me. I haven't been happy with the latest Marvel casting so of the list, I hope Asa gets it.

Entertainment Weekly is saying the same thing. Even Deadline is saying that Asa is among a group of actors in contention. Basically every single outlet is saying that nothing is final yet.
