Yeah, he DEFINITELY has the look:

Ditko Parker FTW.

Same. I think when you put Asa and Tom in comparison with eachother, you see the difference. Tom, to me at least, has slightly more in common with today's modern Peter.

Whereas Asa, he is the classic Ditko Peter, almost to the t. So, therfore, I prefer Asa. Also because he's the better actor :p

Better actor? Everyone praised Holland in the impossible, saying he should have gotten Oscar consideration

They would both be good choices.
That is why they are most likely the final two.

After seeing the first trailer for The Maze Runner 2 I'm still hoping Dylan gets the part... :gngl: He just looks perfect for Peter Parker imo. Please Sony and Marvel, please. :csad:

Sad as it may be, it's almost certainly not going to happen. :csad:

The look, the voice, he's absolutely perfect

Can't believe it wasn't announced months ago it's him

(btw that movie doesn't look half bad, might have to check out the 1st one)

If the idea is to have a 15 year old high school kid then he doesn't look like the perfect Peter Parker.

If Joe Manganiello could play a 17-18yo in SM1, then I don't see why DOB couldn't play a 15-16 yo. It's all about who you surround him with. You make everyone else in the HS/classroom look his same age, and it's instantly fine. Just bc he's supposed to be 15-16 in this reboot doesn't mean he needs to look so young and like a baby. Even PP's earliest renditions in the comics (him at his youngest HS points) don't draw him to look so infantile (being hyperbolic to make a point, though I do believe they look this way) as Tom, Asa, or some of the other apparent candidates

I've said it before but I'll say it again, there's a reason 20-somethings are cast as teenagers, and actual teenagers are typically cast as pre-teens or such

Difference there is that Joe only had to play an 18 year old Flash for like 10 minutes, you're wanting O'Brien to play a 15 year old Peter Parker for a trilogy in high school.

It just doesn't work.

He's not gonna stay 15 for the whole trilogy though, would he? Like he'd be 18 and graduating by the 3rd. That's what I figured they were doing at least. Dear god if they're doing an entire trilogy where he's 15-16 I'm checking out now

And quite honestly, I sort of believe Marvel's gonna go back on this whole HS trilogy idea. I could see them doing it for 1 or 2 solo films, then just deciding to move on. Since Spidey's gonna be featured in other Marvel films (such as CW *probably* and IW) having him be a High Schooler in his first ~4ish aggregate films (2 solos and 1-3 features) still fits the bill of a multiple-film HS PP/SM

Even with a ridiculously young looking actor getting cast now, ala Asa/Tom, having them being in HS for all the Spidey solo films is still pretty hard to believe

It'd probably be 15 in the first film, 16 in the second, and 17/18 in the third. All depends on if they decide to keep or abandon the "real world" aspect of the MCU of current, but I still believe we'll end up getting a trilogy of HS.

I would've if it was just Sony (considering that's what they did with TASM aka plan for a high school series *presumably* then fast track and have Andrew's Peter graduate when they realized he was hitting 30.), but with Marvel in the fold and Feige wanting to "play around in high school", really gives me the impression they'll be going for a trilogy since you can't really explore HS in Civil War or the Infinity War two-parters.

I don't think, considering both Asa and Tom have their age and their youthful look to rely on whereas someone like O'Brien would start showing his age by the time the new Spidey sequel comes around.

Less of a risk with someone like Asa/Tom, which is a hard pill to swallow considering I would've wanted someone like Freddie Highmore (23) for the role, but their adamant on pushing the whole "15-16 Spider-Man" description with who they're looking for in terms of name and age.

Yeah I'm not sure I would like a whole trilogy set in high school. As it is I don't like that we're going back there yet again, I'd rather have them start this off in college.

I think Asa has too much of a baby face to be Peter, he really looks 12 or so. And Tom is definitely not the image I have for Peter, I sound like a broken record. As much as I want them to announce whos been cast already, I really don't care for either of the two. My interest in this reboot has waned quite a bit ever since that short list came out.

Or he was asked at the very same time as those other actors. I don't know why you're assuming two rounds of auditions where they first ask the experienced actors and then him. Typically, a casting call is sent out wide and he fit the criteria of people they were looking for, so they asked him to audition. Had he auditioned, I'm sure it's safe to say he wouldn't have made the cut.
Still, asking a non actor to audition is very strange. What would they expect from him?
Did the studios fear that no experienced actor will suit the role, because the majority don't have the PP look and/or are more about drama than comedy?

I definitely agree with your points @PeterBenParker. I guess I'm just still personally a little skeptical about a full HS trilogy. Does anyone know when the 3rd solo film is supposed to be released? To me it just seems like such a long time to have PP be in HS. From the 1st solo to the 3rd has to be more than 2-3 real-world years. And doesn't the MCU usually follow real world time?

He's gonna be a Sophomore/Junior in SM 2017, so I don't really see any realistic way to have him still being a Senior by the 3rd solo film

Probably 2021 or 2022

They could do a work around and just have him start out as 16, with having the other two films be the two halves of the final semester each (if they shoot it back-to-back).

I honestly can't say, just going off what's out there and trying to make sense out of it.

I do believe though that they considered pretty much everyone (20+ included) though, and just settled on what they thought would fit well for the MCU and longevity (since there's a bit of speculation Spidey will be the face of the MCU after Downey's done).

Seeing that Maze Runner trailer I want more and more Dylan to be Spidey. Enough of this Asa or Holland bull**it.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't have the same thought after seeing that specific scene. :woot:
