The Nightwing OYL Discussion Thread

And Darth Vader was originally suppose to be Black too, but he ended up blue in the original release until they fixed that problem...

But he's cutting back on his own creations now even. He's leaving Runaways, Ex Machina has a planned ending, Y: The Last Man has a planned ending...there's nothing else there for him after those are done.

Calm down. In the latest Wizard, where Brian K. Vaughan was labeled writer of the year, he stated that he'd never stop doing comic book work. While Y the Last Man will be ending soon, and there is a planned ending for Ex Machina, he'll be doing further work in comics. So, you can stop crying now. :oldrazz:

And I really liked the latest issue of Nightwing. I wonder who this I Pod carrying mofo is that seems to know that Dick Grayson is Nightwing and that he should have died in the Crisis. I figured it out...the bad guy in this story is Dan DiDio...remember...I was the first to say it. So, when it happens send all hookers and money to this address:

Except, you know, starting new projects.

Dammit, I just want one friggin' writer to show that Nightwing is one of the best martial artists in the DCU and show him winning a fight. Geez, he seems to get his @$$ kicked alot!

I thought Richard Dragon was the best martial artist in the DCU?

well the mystery said ONE of the best.

they should really have a martial arts fest similar to the archery fest in dragon's blood. settle it once and for about a month.

I thought Lady Shiva was supposed to be the best martial artist in the DCU.

Ha! You're both wrong.

Ted Grant is definitely the best martial artsit in the DCU.

Defy me!

:D not quite, but he is the coolest one that i can think of.

Ted Grant's not a martial artist. He's a boxer.

boxing is a martial art. besides, he's skilled in more than just plain boxing. he's trained half of the vigilantes in the dcu. i think that qualifies him as one of the best martial artists in the dcu.

He trained have the vigilantes in BOXING, not anything else... he's the best BOXER in the DCU, not close to being the best martial artist...

BOXER or Briefs?

the guy has been in the crimefighting biz for something like 30 years, dcu-time. i think he'd have picked up more than just one style of fighting. i've seen him kick people before, that's not boxing. you're right, though, he's definitely nowhere near the top martial artist in the dcu, but no one has made a serious assertion to that.

boxers!

Boxing isn't a "martial art."

Hey, guys, I'm trying to put together a pitch for Nightwing. I gonna send it to DC in a couple of months. What are you looking for when you read Nightwing? What's your opinion of him? Which villains would you like to see him face?

youve been defied... now, define martial artist.

yes, it is.

from wikipedia:

Martial arts may focus on one or more of these areas:

Striking

* Striking - (e.g. Boxing, Karate, Wing Chun)
* Kicking - (e.g. Taekwondo, Capoeira, Savate, Sikaran, Kung fu)

Throwing

* Body Throwing - (e.g. Judo, Hapkido, Shuai Jiao, Sambo)

Immobilization

* Pinning Techniques, Hand Trapping, Weapon Disarming - (e.g. Naban, Varma Kalai, Wrestling, Jujutsu)
* Grappling - (e.g. Shuai Jiao, Mallayuddha, Aikido, Glima)

Weaponry

* Traditional Weaponry - (e.g. Kenjutsu, Gatka, Kapu Kuialua, Mau rakau, Fencing)
* Modern Weaponry - (e.g. Kapap, Eskrima, Jogo do Pau)

First of all, Good Luck. I mean it.

Second of all, it's always good not trying to reinvent the wheel, make it fresh, but stay true to the character.

Third of all, I'd suggest doing some more to really drive the point home that he is his own hero and not Batman light. It's somehting always said about Nightwing, but almost every issue he makes some reference to not wanting to be Batman, dont tell us, show us.

I think Nightwing can use some good new completely original villains. But established villains, I would love to see Nightwing take down Killer Croc, dont know why but now that he's in New York, you can play on the whole alligators in sewers myth.

Regardless, by the general term used by the vox populi, boxing isn't considered a martial art.

well, the vox populi don't know what they're talking about. it's a martial art. end of story.

Nah, either way, Ted Grant isnt in the top 5.

true. but he is the #1 drunken ex-heavyweight camp in the dcu.

But there's the question if there will be many more projects.

Especially considering he's now moved into TV writing.

Actually, I didn't want to use any Bat-villains. I was gonna use Shrike as his arch-villain due to Blockbuster being dead. Maybe Doubledare, Lady Vic, Brutale, make another Stallion.

I also wanted to go with making Dick not just a creature of the night but a full-blown action hero. Like he'd be fighting someone in a truck that's falling off a tall cliff. Not exactly that, but something close.

I think my run would be like Jackie Chan meets Batman meets "Friends" (I only say Friends because it's basically a show about young adults trying to make their own way and get from underneath their parents shadows.)
