Ive never really read Nightwing, but I decided to try him out today since the Targets arc just started. So I bought the last two issues, but Im really confused about something - why does everything seem so 80s/early 90s??? Seriously, girls have long curly mullety hairdos, Nightwing almost has a mullet, walks around in a letter jacket, belly high jeans and a half shirt when he works out.

Am I missing something here? Does this book take place 15 years ago for some reason or other? Theres mention of a hurricane going on in one of the issues that sounded like a hurricane from the past.

Whats the deal?

Dan Jurgens (the artist) draws him that way. Its hard to mind, though, because he's one of the best DC artists of all time.

Eww.

Um, personal preference? And Dick at the moment does not have a mullet. If he did, trust me you'd know.

Same here buddy. I just began to read nightwing with the "targets" arc and I have the same feeling.
But I agree with Superman: Idols ; "Dan Jurgens (the artist) draws him that way. Its hard to mind, though, because he's one of the best DC artists of all time".

John Byrne is great as well but I get bored reading his stories because the art was seventies .... I mean ... not really the "art" but the way people were dressed, haired and all. Personally I'd like to see Dan Jurgens change the hairs of Dick. It make me sad because I like him as an artist.
When I heard Dan Jurgens would be on the book , I was excited but now ... a lot less.

I'm ashamed that I didnt really notice that 'till you said something. I'm with Idols though I don't really mind and apparently I don't really look. :csad:

You know, the half t-shirt working out thing is a lame argument. Terrel Owens wears the same thing when he works out.

ha, i love the old school look of the art....dan jurgens is the man.

And this is an arguement for it being appropriate garb?!

No, its an argument for the fact that its still a common practice to wear such clothes when working out.

Terrell Owens is too cool.
And one day, he might even be able to catch a football consistently.

Yeh but does Terrel Owens also wear jeans above his belly button, tucked into white high tops?

Don't misunderstand me - I like the art, story, and I have no problem with half shirts. Dick's overall look is just very 80s (Which I dont have a problem with either) and I was a little confused. Just making sure I didnt a miss anything.

I agree, Jurgens is a good artist and definitely an improvement over the last couple they had on this title, but he has no clue what modern fashion looks like.

In a couple of months the debatable Jurgens (I never liked his style) will leave the title to our own Jamal Igle, the best artist on SHH!

To each his own. Jurgens is the best artist Nightwing has seen in years. However, the new guy looks to have a lot of talent as well. So as much as I like Jurgens, I am by no means bummed by this turn of events.

Blah! Sure, this year he's has some dropped catches, but he's still one of the top receivers in the league. Oh, and Dallas > Indianapolis Undefeated no more. :woot:

Yeah, he's the best Nightwing artist, okay. But he's not one of the best of all-time, not even close.
