The Nightwing OYL Discussion Thread

chandler in drag? hmmmmmmm sounds like a bruce jones book to me....

so anyway, when are going to find out what happened between dick and babs that made them call off their engagement?

slow thread....

so... i'm totally digging on the iron fist book by brubaker and fraction. the artist, david aja, looks like he'd be awesome on nightwing.

I'm sure we'll find out soon enough, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

that was such an abrupt direction change for nightwing. they just dropped that engagement thread altogether. maybe we'll find out what happened in 52.

Doubt it, Didio said the Nightwing title would cover it.

What did everybody think about the latest issue of Nightwing? Lex Luthor gets another pretty bad ass moment, aside from his complete bad ass move in this weeks 52. I really dug the issue this month as Wolfman is slowly shedding some light on this whole Nightwing/should have died in the Crisis stuff. And he mentioned his feelings for Barbara and Starfire...so things are on a better track. Slowly though.

this issue was kind of boring to me... the raptor storyline was better than octotodd but it really felt dated... like something out of the early 90s

I'm going to start off by saying that Nightwing is my favorite char in DCU and that I'm extremely pissed at the direction his OYL books have taken. Imagine the pain of getting ready to go to Iraq and having this awesome IC happen where he actually STARTS getting noteriety (sp?) and then, OYL happens...He's no longer engaged to Barbara, the woman he's been pinning for for YEARS, he's outta Bludhaven and sleeping around like a male ****. Where the hell was the progression? This was so not Nightwing!!! He's got so much friggin potential and they are wasting it! So, I gotta be out here, deployed and the last book I read of my favorite char is trash. Who's going to take him seriously now?

Do like the fact that Supergirls got a crush on him though, thought that was pretty funny. Never was a big Nightwing/Starfire fan, but *shrugs*

The changes to Nightwing's charatcer are frustrating--his dis-engagment to Barbara and move to New York make ZERO sense (why the hell would Dick abandon Bludhaven in its hour of most here? Is the whole city a crater as Dick scampers around the Big Apple?)

That said, Wolfman's run (starting with #125) is fantastic--it has just the right mix of mystery and characterization. Can't blame him (Wolfman) for screwing up the charatcer--that was all Bruce Jones. The sad thing is, Jones is actually a pretty good writer, if OMAC is any indication.

Considering Bludhaven is one huge radioactive crater, I wouldn't call it an ideal place to live, but I see logic isn't one your strong suits so...

I was just arguing that Dick hasn't dealt with the city at all. A half-million people die, and Dick just picks up and leaves? I don't think he's dwelt on it once since the Crisis, which is mind-numbing.

escapism. he's probably trying to ignore all the losses he's experienced over the last year. i can't imagine what it would be like if i lost the entire city i lived in, including all the people i'm close to in it. that's probably why he's banging anything with a skirt. it beats actually dealing with your feelings. i'm sure he'll have to face up to that stuff eventually, including the dissolution of his engagement to babs. i just wish the jones-arc had treated the character with more respect and actually shed some light on why he was acting the way he was. a male model? that was totally uncalled for.

haven't read the latest issue. if they finally brought up the subject of his relationship with babs i'll have to check it out.

I'm looking foreward to reading the Wolfman arcs when I come back, he brought Nightwing up from the pit before, I'm pretty sure he can do it again. He's got a lot of crap to clean up.

Honestly though, i think that even if the place is a radioactive hulking crater he would've attempted to still help out or at least had a lil conflict in it. It was "his" city, and, being raised by the Bat, would see it as abadonment of his mission. True, he said he was going to stay "for a while", but that doesn't usually mean up and running. It would make more sense if they explained why he chose to leave (due to the radiation) in the book, 52, instead of hitting on the carpet-muncher like an infatuated 12 year old with a Playboy.

Glad he starts smiling and wisecracking. Nightwing always seemed like a great cross between Batman (non-powered, human with gadgets) and Spiderman (grinning, smart alec).

Thank-god Nightwing's not marrying a ****ing cripple. I mean, for gods sake, Dick is smokin' hot, he deserves better.

now that's the 'phere we've grown to know and tolerate! :)
