The Nightwing OYL Discussion Thread

at least the know when it's not working, and they do something about it.

True enough. What's the deal with Dick working with Jason now, though? It's like everything Jason touches becomes absurd by association.

I like Jamal's artwork and Marv is a great writer, but I feel like the title is missing it's edge. I liked it when Nightwing's "world" was dark and Dick's "world" was lighter. Now they have Nightwing swinging around during the day and taking people for rides on his bike. It's just weird.

Those people were in the previous arc.

Bride got magically healed because the other guy had been storing energy for (presumably) hundreds of years inside the ring.

I guess you fail at reading comprhension.

No I knew what happened, Bride wasn't going to get the ring with all the energy stored unless she said yes. So what I said was right, I just left a lot of it out.

I'm new but I've been reading the boards for months. So with that....

I've been a long time reader of Dick Grayson and Nightwing and I have to say that ever since OYL the title has been horrible. The last good arc we had was "Year One" and that was what, two years ago?

The constant status quo's and lack of direction make me think that DC should have just killed him during IC. Sue Dibny has been more of an interesting character than Nightwing, and she's dead.

I personally don't like any of the OYL arc's as much as I liked the older ones from the early years. I don't know what people are so hyped about with Marv being on it again. His last arc (raptor) and this arc (bride/husband) are both pretty ****ty IMO. I mean, they arn't a total bastardization of Nightwing, but the stories they're telling are just bad.

I thought the latest issue was pretty solid. I thought it was a little out of left field that Raptor's family got wiped out except for the one kid, that was pretty morbid. But, yeah, nothing to write home about but it's 100 times better than having Bruce Jones on the title again.

I'm also pretty bored with these villains. Bride and Groom. God damn they are dumb characters. The Joker needs to make a guest appearance and slaughter them, damnit.

I'm thinking of dropping this book, for real. I mean its a lot better than Bruce Jones run, but seriously, this is some boring ****.

I agree. I was really excited to hear Wolfman was taking over, but I aside from the first issue of this run, I haven't once looked at it in my pull stack and think, "oh man, I can't wait to read this."

what this book needs is a) some direction; b) some supporting cast; & c) some real rogues to go toe to toe with dick... he really has no arch rival anymore that i can think of...

I completly agree man, this is what early 90s superman stories were like I believe before "death of superman" ofcourse. I can't believe Tim drake solo is far more interesting then Graysons.

They really shouldn't of killed off Blockbuster. He was a pretty solid nemisis.

Have to say, I might be on the verge of dropping this if things don't pick up soon. I mean, I was thrilled when Marv was announced to be on the book, and he's doing a far better job than Jones' run. But lately with every issue, there seems to be something missing. Some have had their highs, while the others...their lows. "Bride and Groom" aren't the best villains around. Dick should atleast be given a real challenge.

The art was nice. Igle’s pencils have a lot of life in them.

the problem is, they are throw away villains... dick needs to really have an arch enemy or two... make someone up, or use someone established, but get him someone who makes a good foil... it would be nice to have some friends too... i dont know how i feel about him in new york either... too bad bluddhaven is gone :(

i was thinking the exact same thing. i don't care about these new characters in his life, like cheyenne, and the villains are boring. he needs more of a connection to his past life. everything around him is new now and it's just too much change too fast, in my opinion. bring in some classic villains, give some closure to his relationship with barbara (i know it's coming up in an annual) and maybe move him out of new york. it just feels weird to have dc characters in real cities. i like the mystery and romance of an imagined city like gotham or opal city, where they have a much more character and fantastic elements than a real-life city could.

He needs to get his ass back to Bludhaven. Stupid InC ruined Nightwing, afaic.

I'm usually like the biggest Nightwing supporter ever. But I'm pretty sick and tired of Dick conversing with regular people. Hopefully when this stupid arc is over Marv can finally have Dick fully healed and fighting actual metahumans and not some Q-Listers named bride and groom...

Like a lot of you said, Dick needs a supporting cast. The problem is that past Nightwing writers have been trying to set that up from the get-go and once new writers come in they completely ignore any foundations that were set or easily kill them off. Anything that was done in Bludhaven is gone. Amy, the Tarantulas, etc...

And yes, Nightwing needs direction. If they decided to give him a pass and let him survive IC then they should have had a gameplan for him for at least two years.

As for a rogue's gallery anything that has been introduced has been pretty lame. Let Deathstroke be his archenemy or something.

Anything. Because like a lot of you my patience is waning with this book.

the concept of jason impersonating dick and ruining his reputation could have made for an awesome, gripping and gut wrenching arc... instead we got that crap bruce jones tried to pass off as a coherent story
