The nods to Braniac in MAN OF STEEL

Agreed. Perhaps Supes and Lex team up to fend off Brainiac and Darkseid but eventually tension boils over which results in Luthor not trusting Kal-El and goes maniacal in protecting Earth from entities like him, and acquiring alien technology?

That could certainly work. It could lead well into part 3, or Justice League.

Yeah, I think that's what I'd like to see too. I don't want Lex to be a full-on villain in the sequel. It would be cool to see Lex and Superman working together initially for the greater good, and then have Supes realize towards the end just how bad Luthor really is.

In Superman: Earth One, Volume 2, Lex is introduced in person near the end, and his wife Alexandra ironically comes across as the more cold and ruthless.

Major Sandra Lee commissions Alexandra to design a means to kill Superman, and Lex questions if it's even ethical to do so, since Superman so far appears to want to help humanity.

This is worth mentioning since MoS had a strong S:EO feel.

Interesting. I haven't read Earth One, thanks for pointing that out. It could be cool to see Lex (initially) being a good guy and then descending into his typical evil self due to the events of the film. Smallville did this pretty well and I'm sure MOS2 could make it even better.

You could add the twist that Superman finds out Lex was orchestrating the whole thing with Brainiac to begin with, or if he wasn't necessarily working with Brainiac, he was secretly getting involved with Superman to better observe him, basically "using" Brainiac to test Superman.

"Using" in the sense of being opportunistic, not necessarily in any way "controlling" Brainiac.

Smallville practically made Clark look like the badguy, i dont want that to happen in these films. Lex should always have some immoral side to him, military experiments on homeless people or volunteers to develop weapons for future alien threats. Creates Metallo and Parasite. He generally should have a goal thats good but his means of getting there are evil, if that makes any sense.

Clark trusts Lex in the beginning and maybe introduce Bruce Wayne in the next film. He'll be suspicious of some of his activities and creates a partnership to investigate further into LexCorp. He masks it by saying its to help rebuild Metropolis.

for the sequel, i wanna see the people go against superman ignited by lex luthor. and the climate is superman vs doomsday which is released by brainiac.

I think BRAINIAC is best for a 3rd film perhaps even pre JL. The Coluan city stealer/planet killer is to much for the MAN OF STEEL. So he must find the only group of people to ever fend off an attack by BRAINIAC: FAORA and ther others in the PZ. With LEX LUTHOR and the PZ refugees Supes has to go up against both BRAINIAC and watch his back against not just his arch nemesis in LUTHOR but a vengeful FAORA as well.

yup. yup. Lex Luthor must be the prime villain in the sequel!!! with a secondary villain, a powerful beast for superman to fight with physically. (Doomsday i proposed as the ancient kryptonian sleep in the core of earth)

do you think the world will allow a super powerful alien running free???

do you think an alien shows up and does some saving deeds, the world will accept him???

welcome to the real world, superman.

the theme must be superman against the world!!!

The Lex Luthor story line carried Smallville. When he left that show fell apart.

Eh... It full apart for a bit... But i gotta admit when the show became more JLA and supes oriented it found its footing again. And i thought tess ended up turning into a great character.

Just wanna ask how the government can defeat superman without the use of kryptonite? Any idea?

I have no idea outside of somehow cutting off his air supply some how. The showed how resilient this version of Supes was when he flew straight threw the World Engines gravity beam and lived to tell the tale.

They can't.

Lex should be a secondary villain in the sequel, and the main villain in the third instalment drawing from All-Star Superman.

Yeah, I noticed some of the nods, I was surprised he wasn't even at least mentioned though. We can't just have non-stop aliens attacking earth either =).

This is why I think Metallo will be the villain for the second or lex.

My only issue is I imagine this is going to be done like a trilogy, and by the third one he should be the full out symbol of hope, much like Batman was the symbol at the end of TDKR.

Maybe by traps? Or holding ma kent as ransom to make superman surrender. But then how to shackle him? Any technology/ device can hold him down?

If they use either, they should use both in tandem.

I hope not. I don't think they need much more foundation.

I think they'll go with Lex and Metallo, it could be an interesting way to introduce both characters and kryptonite. Lex, builder of New Metropolis and the leading voice against Superman, and Metallo, the product of one of his projects to fight him. Then in MOS3, you could have Lex with his armor based on kryptonian tech, to fight Superman, plus Brainiac as the bigger threat, an alien who collects knowledge and destroys planets. Villains like Darkseid and Doomsday should be leaved for the JL movies.

Yep, I agree 100%. Rosenbaum was the best thing about that show. To this day, I still think he's the best live action Lex Luthor.

Honestly if they do BRAINIAC they need to do the COLU version and do the Silver Age or modern age Brainiac in movie form. NO to the animated version or just use what GEOFF JOHNS did!

Yes this, I think Brainiac would be a great choice for the villain in a sequel they can now use the fact that Kal El is (well if we believe Faora and co died) the Last Kryptonian, not to mention he holds within him the codex for recreating the entire race, maybe Brainiac wants that. He doesn't have to bottle cities, he could be like he was in STAS where he is a collector of knowledge and destroyer of worlds.

Faora and the rest of Zod's people didn't die. They were sent back to the Phantom Zone

Faora and the rest of Zod's people didn't die. They were sent back to the Phantom Zone

But the first time they were sent to the Phantom Zone they were encased in some kind of protective liquid/gel/crystal, this may have protected them in some way....they didn't have that the second time...so we can't be sure if they died or not.

I say Lex and Metallo, like many others said, have Lex be the brains, and Metallo be the physical threat.

I figure Brainiac should have an obviously different technological level from Kryptonian tech-either somehow more advanced or realistically lower. Maybe they can play with the idea that Brainiac has probes that advance across the galaxy and explain that they all travel without a hyperdrive, so the Brainiac we encounter in the sequel has been on Earth for a very long time and mostly uses software to physically act on the world.

Picture an ancient machine with nanotechnology hidden inside itself that can possess a host body if it needs to and has been acting to fulfill an ancient program from Colu. And while his technological database is centuries ahead of Humanity, he desires to gain Kryptonain technology as well.

So I figure a good plot would say that this Brainiac probe has been waiting for Earth to reach a certain technological apex so that it can run a terrifyingly effective wargame to see how humanity would react to a war involving every single resource on the planet. He does this because the Coluans programmed him to try this on every single sentient planet he could in hopes of finding allies against some great unspeakable threat that can recruit an entire species to wage war on itself in planetary suicide. Notice the above is only suggested later.

As STAR Labs, the Russian company Rocket R.E.D., Wayne Eterprises, and LexCorp begin to experiment with their own nanotechnology and advanced cybernetics, Brainiac begins to set his plan into motion. However, he believes that Superman will contaminate the test with his capabilities, so as LexCorp scientist Milton Fine he makes a deal with the antagonistic Lex Luthor to unleash Lex's future soldier John Corben against Sperman as a distraction.

Of course, Corben is defeated easily at first and abandoned by the cynical Luthor, so Brainaic fully upgrades him into Metallo, complete with transhuman angst and a sliver of kryptonite. When his war game fails, he decides to save a few humans for experimentation and kill the st with a nano-plague, but Lex and Superman manage, through teeth clenched team work, to stop his plans, with Lex securing both Brainiac as a program he can use and the kryptonite.

Also, the threat Brainiac keeps testing against? Darkseid.
