The Dark Knight The Non-Spoiler Critic Review Thread

or latinoreview didn't approve the article or run it by an editor etc. I am banking on a mix of what keyser said though.

Wih these glowing reviews from... well, pretty much everyone that's seen it so far... I've been thinking. Most reviews mention how Heath Ledger's Joker is Oscar-worthy. But with the alleged quality of the film itself, do you think it has a chance of being nominated for Best Picture?

Yeah, such talk is premature. And of course, the film being good enough to be worthy of such a nomination doesn't mean it will get it, as Academy Award history has often shown. "The Dark Knight" has three big things going against it: it's a comic book movie, it's a sequel, and it's a "remake", at least in the eyes of some.

I HATE the fact that some people look at it as a remake, thats so pathetic.

hmmmm so far it could definitely be up for consideration, lets see how the top critics handle this film

Yeah, with some of the praise being thrown out there, comparisions to 'No Country', 'Empire Strikes Back', and 'Godfather Part II', makes you wonder...but I think the other factor hurting TDK is the release is not geared towards the awards season. Really, even if it doesn't get nominated or anything it may still be the Best Film of the Year, with the most lasting impact, a true classic...I mean 'Star Wars' was nominated in 1977, but lost Best Picture to 'Annie Hall'...go figure.

hahah annie hall is a worthy film however, i would love to just see this film get nominated! could you imagine a comic book film nominated for best picture. That would be unbelievable

Well i really dont think thats a premature talk at all...lets take Juno for example, there were at least 4-5 movies that deserved the Best Picture nomination more..it was all about ''the little movie that could''

The same think could very easily apply to TDK,''the comic book movie that could''...just giving it a nomination will boost the Oscar TV ratings tenfold,it will give the genre the long-lost respect and really,if it's as good as advertised by all these reviews...why not?

Why having a prejudice just because it's source is a comic book...objectivelly speaking Batman is far more realistic than Lord Of The Rings but that didnt prevent LOTR from sweeping the oscars.

Anyway Best Cinematography and Best supporting actor,i believe are almost a lock as far as nominations are concerned...and addapted script,Best sound and sound editing, editing and even best picture are up in the air at least until we have 100-120 reviews so we know where the movie stands at.

I have to admit, the thought of the Nolans, Bale, Caine, Oldman, Eckhart, Gyllenhaal, Freeman, Pfister and the other key players all taking the stage to accept the award - and dedicate it to Heath - puts a big smile on my face. :yay:

I certainly think its likely to be deserving of an Oscar nomination, or even a win, judging by these reviews. But because of the factors brought up by myself and others, we'll need to wait and see if it gets recognition.

I sure hope your right Keyser, i hope Nolan gets as much credit as anyone, hes been long due for an oscar nomination and if they are calling this his masterpiece then I would love to see him get nominated and win. he is definitly deserving it right now

That's what I'm waiting for. Right now, it's mostly geeky websites giving praise to the film. Which is awesome, don't get me wrong. But I'm interested in what the heavy hitting top critics have to say. If they give the film, similar praise, then who knows. Would this film be that different from lets say LOTR which is not your typical Academy nominated movie for best picture?

Yeah we have to wait for big names like, Variety, ebert and roper, Newsweek, Time, and Usatoday. iF they give the film similar praise which is not likely because these critics are more harsh, but if they give it similar praise this has a great chance of nomination

Ebert's been a pushover ever since his surgery.

Plus, he gave Batman Begins four stars, and he's never given a Nolan movie less than three stars.

good point, then again i dont like ebert at all, his opinions are sporadic and who the hell declares the golden compass to be more darker and more epic then the lord of the rings trilogy, like cmon dude

I HATE the fact that some people look at it as a remake, thats so pathetic.

Why? Nolan's films are in a sense a remake/restart of the franchise. They're not linked to Burton or Schumacher's film offerings in any way really with the exception that it's Batman.

....and he liked The Happening.

Now, I haven't seen it, so maybe I shouldn't say, but everything I've read about it (except his review) makes it sound pretty awful.

:whatever:

Dude a remake and a re-start are two completly different things.
