The Dark Knight The Non-Spoiler Critic Review Thread

Can someone censor the variety review of spoilers so I can read it please?

Those guys at RT.com are idiots, lots of users just voted 0% for the sake of it. Guess they have to prevent it from "destroying" Iron Man... fanboys...

Yup, as soon as I saw the 0%'s given out the first thing that popped in my head was...Marvel fanboys. :o

Edit: How can there already be 440 reviews counted for the RT community? 307 fresh 133 rotten

I also liked Iron Man, but it didn't exactly meander too deeply into the more philosophical areas of its script.

And as far as Maggie goes, the constant "Maggie is ugly," "You'd have to be stupid to say that, she's just non-conventional" fight is absolutely ******ed. Who gives a ****? We get to see a wonderful actress at work here. The fact that people try to justify how hot she is (and really, lets be honest, I think 99% of people who aren't just trying to defend her hotness because they love everything Batman, would at least put her a notch below most other actresses), just shows that they're shallow enough to believe that how hot someone is actually matters in a performance (unless of course the story calls for it).

completely agree. she is 10 times the actess katie holmes is. wish we would have had her in begins. i even think holmes is hotter but i dont think maggie is ugly. also she can bring a lot more substance not only to her character but to the relationship between her and bruce. its a no brainer

That's your assumption and it's kind of ridiculous considering how picky most fanboys and girls can be. Some people (myself included) actually just happen to find Maggie attractive. She looks good to me. That's all there is to it. I could care less about comparing her with other actresses. Most of them are overrated anyhow, in my opinion (love Liz Hurley though). I personally take preference in anchor women (Jodi Applegate, Norah O'Donnell), athletes (Dorothy Hamill, Maria Sharapova) or just regular girls you happen to see walking down the street on 5th Avenue.

On a side note, it's impossible to love everything in a Batman film. If something bothers you deep down, you can't ignore it. It sticks out like a sore thumb. Obviously, some don't bother expressing their dislike over one subject or another, but it's still there. Others, like The Guard, are notably vocal about what they disapprove of.

I don't hate the "Latino Review" because it's negative. It's not really negative, it gives the film an A-, overall I'd say it's positive, actually. I hate the review because it's crass and tasteless, mocking Maggie Gyllenhaal's looks and Heath Ledger's death. I don't even call it a review. A review discusses the film. This is just a sad little blog with the writer attempting to dredge out "humor" from totally inappropriate sources.

You're a class act, Keyser. Very well stated. :yay:

thats actually pretty funny, its like trying to destroy a castle by throwing pebbles at it

humors quote from someone who gave it a 0

Dark Knight is a failed attempt to revive the popular character Batman portrayed by Adam West in the classic TV series of the same name. What The Dark Knight is missing is the colorful characters and witty dialogue of the TV series on which it is based. Instead of the audience pleasing "biff" and "pows" the Dark Knight favors a dark and depressing tone.

The Dark Knight does follow the tradition of hiring popular actors to portray the villainous characters that inhabit Gotham City. But unlike the wonderful performances of Cesar Romero as the 60's Joker or Eartha Kitt as Catwoman, the Dark Knight favors dreary performances from Oscar caliber actors like Gary Oldman and Micheal Caine that seem out of place in this superhero movie.

My suggestion is if you want to see some great Batman fun this weekend go rent 1998's Batman and Robin which features great performances from George Clooney and Uma Thurman and returns to the fun of the TV show. Also for the kids check out the comic books that are based on the TV show.

For the non spoiler crowd, Jay Leno called TDK the best movie of the year and said it was unbelievable, for what its worth.

Aaron Eckhart will be on his show tomorrow btw.

Was that on tonight's show, during the monologue? The monologue is about as far as I'm willing to go when it comes to Leno, unless he's got a must-see guest.

It was right before the first guest i believe, when he tells of the upcoming guests of the week...or something.

Thanks! I'll be flipping the remote back and forth to catch that one. :cwink:

Years ago, when George Clooney was appearing on the show, Leno mentioned how great a movie "Batman and Robin" was.

And Leno hated THE LORD OF THE RINGS movies. But hopefully he's right about TDK!

I think Leno is a Batman fan anyway. He made an off-hand remark to one of the guests about a week ago about how he used to collect Batman comics. Considering that and the fact he likes cool cars and motorcycles, you just know Leno was going to LOVE it!

I caught it. It was less than a second, LOL. He mentions having a guest from "the new Batman movie. BEST movie of the year, UNbelievable. Really really good."

And that was all. :oldrazz:

I saw this post. He came back later and explained it was meant to be a joke because he wanted to see how people would react if someone tried bashing TDK.
