The Dark Knight The Non-Spoiler Critic Review Thread

To sum it up, Devin Faradi is a self-loathing geek. Because of this, he continually singles out fans of superheroes as being far bigger losers than him, jabbing at them with his comments about them being "homo-repressed teen fantasists." He famously stated that the whole superhero genre should have been killed off with "Watchmen" and "Dark Knight Returns", because when those stories presented the genre as adult and psychologically complex, it was essentially the genre's death-knell, as superhero comics should NEVER be taken seriously as credible adult storytelling. This agenda has extended out to his view on superhero MOVIES, and in particular he has singled out Batman - the most serious and "adult" of mainstream superheroes - as an object of his hate.

Back at the time of the release of "Batman Begins", he controversially claimed that "Fantastic Four" was much better. Why? Because it didn't "get any ideas above its station". Namely, he thinks superhero movies should not aspire to be anything other than mindless, colorful kiddie fluff. Any film that does so is being "pretentious" and appealing to us loser comic fanboys.
Wow...he sounds like kind of a d_bag.

LOL, don't know much about this Devin but that's just ridiculous. I guess he must think that "Batman and Robin" is the best superhero movie ever made.

Interestingly enough, the only review so far to even allude to the fact that The Joker has changed from being permawhite to applying white facepaint. And even here, it's to say how insignificant this change is! :oldrazz:

I agree with what others have said, one of the best reviews so far. I hope these reviews keep coming in. I can gorge on these instead of being tempted by spoilers.

Hey guys, Thanks so much for all the praise! I really did my best to avoid any spoilers, and it felt constrictive to my normal, over-the-top comments. Anyway, hope you all enjoy!

wow the praise TDK is getting is insane. every review i've read has read like the most insane fanboy gushing ever, which is exactly what i want to read. TDK has turned everyone into crazed fanboys.

Just read Moriarty's review over at AICN, the section before the spoilers at least, and it was great. One thing that caught my eye was this
"I’m not sure kids under 14 or 15 should see this film. For one thing, they won’t understand a lot of it. I don’t think moral ambiguity is one of the things kids look for in their movies. For another thing, the parts they do understand will probably scare the **** out of them. This movie pushed the PG-13 to the breaking point, and I’m not sure how Warner Bros. pulled it off."

Hmm...perhaps it should be changed to "A" on the front of this thread. If it makes much difference.

Cool. I was a little confused on saturday because He pretty much called it Nolan's best film, yet gave memento an A, so I'm glad that went up.

Let us never forget this time. Ever...when Batman was finally given the justice in a movie he so truly deserved...thank you Nolan!!!!
