The Official 59th Primetime Emmy Awards Thread

Kate looked good, not sure what the deal was with her shoulders being up, improperly fitting dress maybe.

The Colbert Report is way better than The Daily Show and should have won.

colbert report is not as good as daily show.
without the daily show the colbert report would even exist

And the Report has taken the best elements from TDS and added their own for the best comedy/variety show. Stewart said last year the "academy" screwed up and made a mistake. TDS is just getting by. The special segment Rob Corddry did last week was the best thing on the show since Corddry left last summer. :o

You won't be seeing Jon Stewart, John Oliver and Rob Riggle jumping up and down on an Emmys show in the future.

Ryan Seacrest has been quite mean tonight. Taking shots at Paula Abdul (Which was funny), Jeremy Piven, and Vanessa Hudgens. Isn't he supposed to be family friendly or something?

Go rent/buy Knocked Up for his cameo.

Good ol' Lewis Black..

If only the show was on HBO...

Still, the nomination packages for the writing in a variety show or whatever are funny as hell every year.

One of the few guaranteed entertaining moments every year. Loved Conan's expression.

And 30 Rock for Best Emmy? Its good but no where near the laughs that The Office produces. It has potential to develop into a Best Emmy winner. A year ago you would've expected Studio 60 to grab best drama and for 30 Rock to be cancelled. Oh irony.
Maybe the award will help the ratings for 30 Rock but its against Ugly Betty and Survivor. 30 Rock really has no viewers and just remained on the air purely because of whose involved (Fey, Baldwin and Lorne Michaels).

Al Gore is honoured for starting a television network. George W. Bush has his greatest bloopers shown during Letterman's writers' names and then a collection of the Bush jokes from late night TV. What would've Bush done had he lost in 2000?

I passed on watching due to Seacrest. How painful was he?

lol. Good question...

Well, people poke fun at Gore a lot too and he just seems to take it in stride.

He was hardly there from what I saw. They mostly left the comedy to the comedians

Coming from someone who has nothing against him, I thought he was just fine.

Well, he was being a bit of a jerk at times, but ya know...Nothing too outlandish.

Did he keep to his promise not to tell jokes? If so, what the hell did he do and what kept it from being even more of an ego fest than usual?

He had some lame, very lame and decent insult jokes. There were a handful of actors/comedians who came out did a segment and then presented an award(s) (Colbert with a leaf blower & Stewart on how hypocritical the show is, Ray Ramano bombs and stays on too long, Lewis Black rants about network executives, the Office cast gives the truth on Steve Carell, Kanye West and Rainn Wilson have a mini-"Don't Forget The Lyrics" - category: Songs of Kanye West..., plenty of boob jokes from other people.

So instead of some big opening like Conan did last year it was as if Seacrest was hosting a American Idol results show and only introduced people and made some comments and let people with talent actually entertain.

You probably would've like Ricky Gervais winning and have Stewart/Colbert invite "their friend Steve Carell to accept the award. Hugging and jumping up and down ensues. That is one of the good things about the new set, easy access. And the door in the floor that Conan's writers wanted to exit in.

Conan

Meh to everything else. :cmad: :o

Just read the results and watched highlights. Carrell, Colbert, and Stewart were funny.

The Sopranos didn't deserve best drama (mind you, none of the nominees did and it was the best of the five)...but its actors did deserve wins. Gandolfini and Falco got screwed as did Imperioli and Broccio.

The best comedy race should've been between The Office and Entourage. 30 Rock shouldn't have even been considered. Its ok right now, but not best comedy.

Also why does Carrell keep getting snubbed at the Emmys?

Did Sally Field really yell at the audience? When I read that all I could think of was Ron Burgandy's acceptance speech. "TURN THE MUSIC OFF! I'M NOT FINISHED! TURN IT OFF!"

Damn, Glenn Close has some guns. :wow:

I know, right?!?! I was looking at her upper body, and I was like damn! She tryin' to catch up to Angela Bassett or something?

And Is Seacrest trying to prove how incredibly gay he is by knowing every single designer everyone is wearing. I loved when he simply said "hi" to Teri Hatcher.

Congratulations to Terry O'Quinn for winning Outstanding Supporting Actor!! :):)

Well it was okay, i only watched an hour of it. I thought it could be renamed the "worship the Sopranos," hour. There were better dramas in the last year, but they were not even nominated so meh.

Overall Secrest was bad (not a surprise) and the show was meh. I must say as well, that 30 Rock is a bad show. It isn't very funny and if not for Alec Baldwin the show would have been cancelled a year ago. It just drags. The Office is brilliant and even though this wasn't hte best season, Entourage had some great episodes and is consistantly the most bitingly funny one out there. Hell, I'l lsay Scrubs deserved a nom and/or win before 30 Rock or the lousy 2 1/2 Men.

Bad running. And again the show was so geared to suck up to the Sopranos there was no reason to watch the last award.
