I've made the Elseworlds comparison for years but it never seems to take.
I go by a case by case criteria when it comes to adapting characters and stories, you don't change the origin of Spider-man like that, and then get to tell me it's the same character with any conviction.
If you don't understand why, then you don't understand the origin, or the journey of Spider-man's character.
edit: the haters are just gonna have to suck it up. =)

Except it is the same character. Not sure why you're so adamant on this.
As KRIM said, changes are to be expected with something like this. If I wanted to see a storyline from a comic book done perfectly and 100% faithfully... I'd read the comic book.
Substitute the wrestling thing with Peter's antics outside of a wrestling arena (the sunglasses, vigilante Spidey) in this movie and the origin is still basically the same. Now, shall we all move on?

Right. So again, this was never about source fidelity. Rather what coincides with personal interpretations of the lore, and the willingness to delve beyond what's written on the page to explore new perspectives.I go by a case by case criteria when it comes to adapting characters and stories, you don't change the origin of Spider-man like that, and then get to tell me it's the same character with any conviction.

how come the official picture thread doesnt have HD screencaps?
No, it's not, and you know it Troy, accept it, move on and accept the true Spider-man into your life, haha.

Degrees of sensitivity. Everyone has a different value.
Did you even read what I said?
EDIT:
"Peter wrestling when Ben's alive: misuse of his powers
Peter as a vigilante when Ben's alive: misuse of his powers, he's only beating thugs up simply because he can."
It's the same thing. Misuse. Of. His. Powers.

nope, PP says he is trying to do something the police can't, he's just become like any other regular superhero with a not so interesting origin, who gets powers, and then tries to be a superhero right away.
Nothing fancy about it. You basically agreed by saying you take it on a "case-by-case" basis. Which indicates there is no universal rule in determining the quality of faithfulness versus alteration. Thus, this isn't about fidelity. That's all I was pointing out.Type up all the fancy footwork posts you want Krim,
Trust me when I say I know your position more than you will ever know. The most time and thought I ever devoted to the internet, involved ranting (for months) against a change I didn't personally take kindly to in film.it is what it is, this 'Spider-man' is basically the story of someone else getting those type of powers, as i was saying like a 'What if?', 'What if someone else was Spider-man?' story. But after all is said and done, the true Spider-man is the one from Amazing Fantasy 15, that is the character's story that struck a chord with comic-book fans, that led to an unprecedented amount of fan-mail, which led to him getting his own book, and fed the ethos of the character that made millions of people love the character and become one of the most popular superheroes in existence.
Put it this way, if they had done the origin of a regular kid who gets superpowers and then decides to become a vigilante, like this new movie, there probably would be no more spider-man, AF15 wouldn't have got all those fan mail letters that led to him getting his own book
But that works within the context of the movie and what he's doing. You still haven't addressed my points on how Peter wrestling and beating people up just because he can are the same things. Which I'll repeat, they're a misuse of power.
You guys can do yourselves a favor and just ignore Bum, itll save you alot of time and frustration.
nope, it is you have not addressed the petinant points I made in my initial posts concerning this, i *have* already addressed all of this...
ie the true original Peter Parker/Spider-man was an unpopular kid who was estranged from the social scene of his peers, and never got the girl...that is why he used his powers for fame and fortune when he got them, just as in AF15 with the wrestling and tv stardom, and in SM1 with the wrestling to win money....and then he learns to be a hero and accept responsibility once he lets the pursuit of fortune get in the way of justice, and someone close to him is killed as a result.
Also, he only gets the girl and becomes a more social person, *once* he has got the powers and accepted his superhero role.
in this one, it seems to be that once he gets his powers, he pretty much right away decides to use his powers to fight criminals, by 'trying to do something the police can't'.
Whether or not he also tries to make a buck from wrestling is besides the point, he's also already decided to become a crimefighter too.
the origin is now very different
the character's journey is different
the character is different...
