This. I've always wanted to see a JLA-esque version of Avengers, and this finally brings it, but there's still something lacking about this book. Even with the massive storyline, it still dosent feel epic.

I hate that Spider-Man and Wolverine are placed on the Avengers with the JLA as justification. Yes, the best-selling characters of the DC universe do make up the best JLA, but the DC universe and the Marvel universe aren't put together quite the same way. It just feels awkward forcing Wolverine onto a team like the Avengers to me. Spider-Man's passable but unnecessary to me. The "big" Avengers team for me would be Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Vision, Hawkeye, Hank Pym, the Wasp, the Scarlet Witch, and Wonder Man. The founders plus the few additions who've proven to be the true mainstays of the team.

Honestly man, i think its the art thats killing it. I LOVE JrJr and i always will, but this doesnt have the big, epic look that it should. It looks really plain and standard which is also the colorist's fault. If someone like Olivier Coipel or Jim Cheung were drawing it, i think it would feel more epic.

Oh, it's gotten better. The first issue was fairly terrible, but the second and third have been decent. I've personally decided to drop it because Rulk's joining in #7 and I'm not enjoying it enough to bother finishing this arc, knowing I'd drop it when Rulk comes along anyway.

Pretty sure someone came right out and said he's joining the team at one of the CCI panels. I know Marvel people make lots of off-the-cuff jokes, but there's also promo art from JR Jr. with Rulk and the Avengers looking awfully ally-like.

Don't look at it as Rulk ruining the first stab at a proper Avengers team in half a decade; look at it as Rulk saving you $4 a month on one of Bendis' Avengers comics that was already pretty mediocre to begin with.

Yeah, I think New Avengers having both Spidey and Hawkeye means I'm pretty safe in dropping the Bendis title. Its a very mediocre series, and so therefore really not worth shelling out extra each month for so-so story telling with far too many "listen to me"'s every other speech bubble for my liking, just to have Hawkeye and Spidey.

It's a shame, because after reading the Hulk Omnibus, I really started to enjoy the character. But after all this crap with Rulk, I want nothing to do with it. I just can't stand the character (although he is fun to draw at times).

It's such a damn bummer that Rulk is joining. I was excited for Avengers with Thor and the story is starting to get better. But, sheez, I just don't think Rulk makes any sense... so that's probably gunna be it for me.
