The Official Avengers Thread (Heroic Age Bendis/JRJR)

I was told that it only has 8 issues of Jack Kirby art, but its all written by Stan Lee but i'm not sure that interests me at all, think i'll wait for the inevitable Omnibuses of Busiek and Bendis instead.

I followed Avengers during its first storyline, but It didn't really grab me, the Only Avengers title I'm getting monthly at the moment is Secret Avengers, I've found that title to be a pretty enjoyable read.

However, I may pick the regular Avengers book back up eventually.

The first arc of Avengers didn't grab me either and I debated on dropping it but the second arc ended up being a LOT better (with Rulk, the Hood, and the Infinity Gems). New Avengers was the opposite. The first arc was good but the second one hasn't been grabbing me at all either.

Secret Avengers is good but frustrating in that it's not much of a team book, or wasn't under Brubaker. I havne't read the past two issues or the .1 issue but I just bought them so hopefully Spencer and Ellis after him will portray a better team atmosphere. Secret Avengers is a great team, Brubaker just never utilized it and that frustrated me to no end.

Yeah, but it's mostly just going to be non-stop action. Kind of like Nextwave but not making fun of anything.

To us, maybe. To everyone else in the universe, not so much. :csad:

Eh, Ellis tends to play fast and loose with established characters no matter what. I'll give the first few issues a try, but it's going on my watch list when he takes over.

As of now he's only slotted for 6 issues if I remember it correctly. I'm not a huge fan of his Marvel work thus far so I'm not keeping high hopes. I'm expecting delays myself.

I have a feeling that this book's sales are going to reel and it's going to end up getting cancelled or relaunched right along with Avengers Academy. Steve is going back into the Cap uniform and will be right back on the main team. There will be no reason for this book to exist anymore. The New Avengers will become more like the WCA of this generation. They might as well just move them back out there so I can feel nostalgic.

I think that sales will remain stable with Fear Itself, The Children's Crusade, and Ellis. Although I do think that we'll be getting some major roster changes in the Avengers titles soon due to Fear Itself, so I think it'll be a wait and see before we can judge if sales will crash.

I'm not up-to-date on Steve Rogers. Is he really taking back the shield, and when?

Well, right now there is no Cap cuz Bucky's stuck in Russian Superhero Fight club. Obama asked Steve to take the mantel up again and he's dragging his ass.....but he'll do it eventually.

So it'll be like bendis but with better writing? I can do that, I might get back on the avengers bus. I liked his handling of the T-Bolts quite a bit.

Ellis' T-Bolts run was fantastic. If his SA is anything like that, I might find myself buying an Avengers book again.

Got issue #13 of Avengers... gotta say, not all that impreseed, just seemed like... Fluff before the storm, lol. I mean tere were afew good moments, but I't could have been better IMPO.

I stopped reading during the first arc. Im dissapointed to see that it still has the same cast bc I was hoping it would change. Is New Avengers any better or are both books bad?

New Avengers was really good it's first arc and the Squirrel-Girl issue then tanked horribly.

Yeah the cast really needs to change up a bit. I'd replace Rulk, Spider-Woman, the Protector, and Wolverine with Hulk, Dr. Strange, Ms. Marvel, and Giant-Man. With Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, Hawkeye, and Spider-Man, that would be an awesome cast :awesome:

Y'know what, since I haven't done it in a while, here's my dream lineup (based on current availability):

Avengers
Captain America
Thor
Iron Man
Spider-Man
Ms. Marvel
Hank Pym (in any costume)
Scarlet Witch (since she's back now)

New Avengers

Hawkeye
Mockingbird
Thing
Hercules
Black Knight
Beast
Falcon

Secret Avengers
Bucky (as US Agent/Nomad whatever since he's def not gonna be Cap)
Black Widow
War Machine
Moon Knight
Black Panther

Avenger Academy (faculty)
Quicksilver
Tigra
Captain Marvel/Photon
Justice
Firestar

So notice a running theme in my rosters....? No Wolverine. He's been on the team for 6-7 years now and has been shoved down our throats. He's much better in Uncanny X-Force anyway. I thought about putting him on Secret Avengers for a minute but decided against it.

Also, no Cage. Nothing against him personally, he works on New Avengers or Academy as a teacher but he's the best when dealing with the criminals on the Thunderbolts.

Other folks that were left off the list that I just want back on the team but they're dead/missing/limbo are Vision I, Quasar, Crystal, Sersi and Jack of Hearts. Other dream recruits from other other corners of the Marvel Universe are Daredevil, Colossus, X-Man and Jean Grey.

I like Luke on the New Avengers. I'd fill the New Avengers with nothing but street level heroes like Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Daredevil, the Thing, Hercules, the Falcon, and Spider-Woman.

Though I don't read New Avengers, I really like that Luke Cage is in on the action. He's probably the only reason I'd read NA.
