That second one on the right actually looks pretty awesome.

Anyone knows why the logo on the poster and merchandise featured the now recognizable logo but the one on the suit was different? It always bothered me a bit, even as a kid.

Burton thought the classic logo didn't look tough enough, so they added a nut sack.

I always found it a bit unnecessary... but it works fine on screen.

Why wouldn't Keaton give an interview?

Keaton claimed that the producers of the Special Edition DVD never asked him to participate. And as unlikely as that sounds when the American Film Insititute unveiled it's HEROES AND VILLAINS tv special list in 2003 Michael gave an on camera interview when his version of Batman made the list.

I know somewhere in this thread or another, I've seen that the symbol on the chest oval did come from the comics. If memory serves, Burton took it from Brian Bolland's art. Or maybe it was even earlier. Hmm... I can't find the image in the comics at present though... someone help a brother out.

Joe Chill in Batman (1989):

  • In the original comics a nameless mugger was responsible for the murder of Bruce's parents. The mugger was eventually given the name "Joe Chill" which was revealed at a even later date to be short for "Joseph Chilton."
  • Chill's presence and actual mugging of the Waynes is intended to be a nod to the original origin story. This variation deviates after Chill grabs Martha's pearls, as he is in shock at Napier's brutal execution of the Waynes, then urges Napier to flee before he shoots Bruce as well.
  • In the film Clyde Gatell is credited as "Other Mugger" while Hugo E. Blick is credited as "Young Jack Napier."
It's not Bob Hawkins aka Bob the Goon:

I still believe that henchman was Bob the Goon and not Chill. The "Lets go Jack!" even parallels that when Bob shouted that exact line to Jack during the Axis Chemicals sequence (just before Jack killed Eckhardt). He shouted the same line during both scenes where the hero and villain created each other. I don't think that was a coincidence.

Then why isn't he credited as "young Bob"?

It doesn't even identify him as Bob in the script:

BRUCE'S POV We see TWO YOUNG HOODLUMS pointing a gun AT us. The HOODLUM with the gun grabs the string of pearls on Martha's neck. Thomas tries to grab the young HOOD's arm. We hear the SOUND OF A SHOT. Thomas falls. Martha SCREAMS. The HOOD FIRES -- Martha falls. The second HOODLUM runs away.

And yes, BOB is in the script. I checked:

JOKER WHY DIDN'T SOMEBODY TELL ME HE HAD ONE OF THOSE THINGS?! -- JOKER SHOOTS BOB. Other Goons look fearful, fall silent.

The "let's go Jack" is probably there just to parallel both scenes of hero/villain creation, not tell us that BOB and the HOODLUM are the same character.

It's never even crossed my mind that those two could, or might be the same character.

Me neither, I just figured it was some random thug Jack was running around with.

I always thought it was Bob, for the same reasons Elevator Man gave. I just thought since the young Jack didn't look exactly like Nicholson, that young Bob was the same.

Funny you should say that, because the only reason Hugo Blick was cast is because he looked like Jack Nicholson.

The other guy doesn't even look like Bob. Bob is scruffier, shorter and has longer hair.

There's no evidence whatsoever that this guy was supposed to be Bob the Goon.

I wouldn't say he looks exactly like Jack Nicholson. Heh, and how are you commenting on their hair? It's a flashback that takes place years apart. People can grow hair in that time. :hehe:

Of course people can grow their hair in that time. But this is a movie. :hehe: It's about conveying certain information to the viewer.

Yeah I never thought it was Bob either, he would've been a teenager at the time becasue I always assumed Bob was younger than Jack Napier by a couple of years.

^But doesn't the flashback scene say "Let's go Jack" and then at Axis Chemicals, Bob says "Jack, c'mon!"
