Ah, good point. I'd forgotten about that. In that case, Cap could very well top $200 million overseas. Except for The Incredible Hulk, all of Marvel's movies have done well in foreign markets: Iron Man made $266 million, Iron Man 2 made $309 million, and Thor has made $269 million. So if Marvel/Disney have staggered Captain America's release dates properly, hopefully it'll do similar numbers. If that happens, Cap should end up with more than $400 million worldwide, once it's all said and done.

So, how many people think Cap will open at #1....even with Harry Potter in full swing just a week previous?
I think that it will because I don't see Harry Potter beating TDK's opening weekend even with 3D tickets and I expect it to drop hard like all Harry Potter films.

The truth is, a lot of people liked Thor and X-Men: First Class; the further truth is, Captain America looks promising. But then you get a flick like Green Lantern to remind you that transporting the DC and Marvel universes in their entirety to the big screen isn't nearly as cool as your 9-year-old self thought it would be."

I still say Cap will have to overcome the Green Lantern taint and that needs to be factored in. I also think that what E doesn't get is that good adaptations don't care about any 9-year-old sensibilities and focuses on a good adventure story with heart that adults enjoy. Marvel is 4 for 4 as a studio doing that and I don't see Cap stopping the streak.

I liked GL, I still don't see what eveyone's complaining about other than most Fan Nitpicks which almost every film has.

I think Cap should do pretty well

I think this sums it up best and in a funny way. Hardly fan nitpicks...

I'm also hoping that Cap does far better than pretty well. The character deserves Iron Manish type numbers at the least. That may be asking for a lot but he does deserve it if the film is as good as it appears to be.

Iron Man made 98mil (just under 100 mil) and IM2 made 128mil OW. Cap will not do that, LOL! I think 75 is a very reasonable prediction. Iron Man is an anamoly. It won't happen for Marvel again until Avengers.
I had been thinking 71 million.
But,I like your prediction better!

I'm going to be more cautious because everything this summer has been over predicted. And I must say again, that I don't see Potter opening with a record numbers. I see it getting 145mil at best and dropping huge, leading the way for Captain America to debut on top.

Captain America: Opening 70mil (I think it could open lower easily and I will be changing my prediction if GL style reviews and bad buzz start coming in.

Total: 195 to 220mil. Overseas 130 to 180mil.

I honestly don't see Captain america opening significantly better than any of the other summer superhero films this summer.

With thor's 66 million opening, First class's 55 and gl's 52 million. I'm almost positive it will debut between thor's and Green lantern's likely closer to thor's.

That's what i think this movie hasn't wowed anyone everyone around here thinks this movie is going to suck except me, and the lack of publicity is definitely going to hurt this film. I Expect the box office numbers to be similar to X-men First Class
150 Domestic
180 Foreign

Total 330 Million

And honestly the more i think about it thor with its first out of the gate spot may be the actual outlier in that it might be the only superhero movie to debut in the 60's. If CA debuts over 60 million i'll be quite surprised.

There is only one Superhero film that has been released this summer that can be described as a bomb.
Green Lantern.
Thor has an announced sequel with a release date.
It is a hit.
X-Men First Class has done pretty well considering that it is the fifth film in a franchise in over a decade.
There have been recent reports that the the studio is considering a sequel.
But GL?
It cost too much .
And WB recently TOOK BACK their sequel announcement.
Also, I think the reason we dont see a full marketing blitz for Cap is because they dont want to oversell CA as WB oversold GL.

Ofcourse everyone thinks that Captain America is going to suck, GL just came out. The marketing has been good though so good reviews should push it over the edge.

I'm not ruling out it opening with 55mil as that is entirely possible but I honestly think that it will hit 60mil...if the reviews and buzz are still good when it opens.

Crap man! I hate to say it but I think you are right. The trailers for this movie really haven't wowed me at all...........well they have because I'm a comic geek but if you are not, it's just not that entertaining. But I can always dream. :csad:

I've seen a lot of people getting wowed by the second trailer not even on this site. And using Tool made a ton of people on Twitter very nearly crap themselves over how awesome it was. And the Twitter traffic has steadily increased over the past couple of weeks.

This week should start the Captain America tracking on the box office websites too. I'm very interested in seeing those numbers through July 18.

Same. I hope they start going toward that area of 70-75. I think if Cap can make it to that range, then we are in for a solid domestic run!

I hope you guys are right. Honestly I haven't really seen that reaction. I mean, there are some people excited for it like me but just haven't seen it from the none comic fans.

I never try to go by what I observe in a circle of friends or visit to a theater, because that really is not indicitive of what the mass population feels. Particularly your circle of friends because more often than not, they have views similar to your own. It's bad to use them to gage the world.

Who says the marketing is bad? I'm seeing a bunch of ads on TV, not as much as GL, but looked at how THAT turned out.

Plus, Cap doesn't come out for another 2 weeks. We have to remember this :word:

I would laugh if there were a Captain Amerismurf

Where is this bad marketing thing coming from? GL had shakey marketing but Cap has had pretty good marketing. It not being any and everywhere is a good thing. Good marketing certainly doesn't mean that a ton of people will want to see a film but it has had good marketing.
