Is it weird to feel happy but iffy that we're getting a better Avengers film [than AoU] in a non-Avengers film?

Me after reading all the new rumors:

YES!!! to chainmail for Cap!! I'm so thrilled! For years I (often alone) have been pining to see the dragonmail look for Cap onscreen! I really love what they've done with Cap's suit, especially post-TWS, but seeing the chainmail look for Cap is a dream come true for me. It's just iconic, and I will admit I had accepted that we will probably never see it on the big screen, especially given how great the current Cap suits are.

That, and the rest of the rumors, makes me very very happy. I didn't think I could get any more excited for this movie.

I've been seeing a lot of responses like this, but are you guys really excited over chainmail material? All I can picture is his Star Spangled Man costume in chainmail and I just can't get excited.

Now, if it's a completely new suit WITH chainmail, then at least I know you guys are just fans of medieval under armor.

Chainmail Cap? YES!
Giant Man? YES!
BP Vibranium Suit? YES!
Spider-Man? YES!
War Machine War Version? YES!
Falcon upgrade? YES!
Hawkeye suit upgrade? YES!
Civil War? YES!
Better than AoU? HOPEFULLY!

The Russos know what they are doing, Whedon is level 5 in RPG scale, while the Russos are level 89... sorry I've been playing Witcher 3 for 5 days straight, just finished the longest game in history.

Feeling apprehensive about the chainmail. I like it in the comics and hope they execute it well in a modern way.

Thor's costume is the reference to compare to in this case I'd think. Works on his, don't see why it won't work for Cap. Perhaps its more of this techno-style that was used to describe Ant-Man's upgrade; something Tron-like in my head.

Not sure if its safe to make this kind of assumptions, I'm sure we all thought AoU was gonna be the best Marvel film and it didn't turn out that way.

CW has all the ingredients to be the best superhero movie ever but I usually prefer to be cautious with my expectations.

Some people feel that way, but certainly not all. I've heard a lot of people say they liked AoU better than TA and I've heard others say otherwise. I thought they were comparable; liked the newness of putting the team together and liked the development of the characters in AoU.

Totally agree with you re managing expectations. I think the reason some people felt AoU wasn't up to snuff is because they had wildly unrealistic expectations. I think those people will like it better after they've seen it a couple or more times.

CW has some real potential, but we shouldn't start putting it in the category of The Godfather before we see it. This is going to be a difficult film to manage. Much, much harder to do well than TWS in my opinion.

Yes, I really am! I love the chainmail look of Cap's costume in the comics, and I had come to peace with the fact that they will probably never use it for MCU Cap, but the fact that they are going to try is very exciting to me.

I've always loved this look.

Great call! Thor's chainmail is excellent and very aesthetically pleasing. It wouldn't surprise me if Thor's armor is their inspiration/example for bringing Cap's chainmail on screen.

A more subtle, blue-tinged version of this would look sweet on Cap, especially if it's as form-fitting as the TWS stealth suit. It would only be the top part of his torso anyway.

Yeah. I'm extremely pumped but still wary of a few things, since I remember this entire board bragging about how amazing Age of Ultron was and how Ultron would be the next Loki, only to suffer a collective stroke when the first reviews came in.

You okay now?:(

I thought AoU was not far off from TA in quality, and I liked many things about it better. IMO, there are three reasons it seems inferior. First, Whedon stuffed so much stuff in there that it became badly edited and half-baked, which in turn spoiled some great moments (Ultron's "Oh for God's sake" moment could have been like Loki's "Puny god" moment but wasn't). Secondly, Ultron just didn't live up to his potential. The villain can really make or break a CBM. Lastly, it just wasn't as novel as TA, and I think Marvel hurt themselves by announcing all the Phase 3 movies before AoU. TA felt like the end of a journey, a climax, while AoU felt like filler because everyone knows (and is looking forward to) what comes next more.

While AoU was still very good and I still loved it, I do think CW could very well be the better Avengers movie.

CW has me so excited. It just seems like it will bring the MCU to a whole different level and kick off phase 3 with a bang. After TWS I have complete faith in the Russos and it would seem Feige and Marvel do too since they will helm IW1&2. I loved AoU flaws and all. But this is going to just be on another plane of existence based on everything I've been reading

So essentially, Cap will be getting this:

That's plain ugly.

If they do something similar to Thor's armor it won't look that bad. But is it really necessary? After we all grew accustomed to the very successful (well, except The Avengers one) MCU grounded suits?

Just as a note: please, don't call what Cap wears "chainmail". There is no chain. It's scalemail. Because it's made of scales. Sorry for being picky, but it gets on my nerves :woot:

Yeah, not a big fan of the chainmail myself. So no, seeing it on film does nothing for me, nor does it make much sense either.

And count me as one of those who thought that AOU was BETTER than TA.

I prefer the character development in AOU than in CATWS.

Yeah I agree. TWS has the more interesting/deep plot (although AOU did better than TA in that regard as well), but the character stuff was better in AOU. Not that it was BAD in TWS mind you, it certainly was, but just not AS good imo.

I still think that TWS is a better film overall though.

Count me among those not to sure about the scale mail appearing in the MCU (if the rumor is indeed true). I think scale armor works in live action for Thor because of who Thor is, his background, and the world (realm) that he comes from. Captain America though, I don't know, might feel a bit parachronistic for him (I think I'm using that word right) to have had 'modern looks' to his uniform for modern day and then to suddenly go to something like scale mail.

I don't know... I guess we'll see (and again, that's even assuming this rumor is true)

I've heard one theory that the new scale mail is made of Vibranium to protect himself against Black Panther. No idea how accurate that is, but at least we have one theory. It would also make out Black Panther as a recurring antagonist throughout the movie for Cap, not so dissimilar from the Winter Soldier in TWS.

In the comic, Cap gets beat up pretty bad by Iron Man. Could it be that it's BP that lays the wallop on Cap in this movie? Or IM+BP?

It better be Iron Man and Iron Man alone that kicks his ass. I want the Geffen-Meyer fight scene recreated.
