First Avenger The Official Captain America Critic's Review Thread - Part 1

It'll be fresh by the end of it's run...despite RT being such an ******* right now.

That one reviews that's 7/10 that they have marked as rotten it kind pissing me off...makes me wonder how truthful they've been with review statistics with other movies.

Haha. I have seen Roger Ebert get lambasted by comic book fans because of bad review. Now that he gave a positive one, check out all the love going his way.

Kind of like those people who wait for the reviews to come in, but when it doesn't go their way (Green Lantern fans, I am looking at you guys), they say how useless critics are and how let's just judge for ourselves whether the movie is good or not and don't listen to critics. Hahaha. Sour graping, most likely.

It's either critics views matter or not. From the start, pick one. If it doesn't matter, then don't even bother checking them out. If you do check them out (some even wait in earnest) then they do matter. It's as simple as that.

It's not that. His review of Thor was lazy and not something I would've expected from a heralded critic. It's one thing if he didn't like the movie, but his critique read like he wasn't even paying attention during the sitting or he needed to pump out a review in 2mins.

That bit with the Destroyer and the Golden Gate Bridge was... something, to say the least.

Maybe late with this, but very interesting.

Maybe some TRUTH to the Rotten Tomatoes conspiracy theories.

Would be sad if this turns out to be true. It would definitley TARNISH Rotten Tomatoes for me. I love RT, but this puts their integrity in question...think I will go with METACRITIC for Captain America.

Also, keep in mind Warner Bros., who owns Rotten Tomatoes, DEFINITELY wants Harvey Porter to stay number one this weekend. Do not underestimate what greedy studios will do to make their money.

You just summed up the mindset of the majority of comic fans on SHH. Every franchise's fans perform this same song and dance when a movie they're hyped for is about to be released. It's sure as hell not just Green Lantern fans. It's a cycle that's been going on since this board was in its infancy and will continue.

With that being said people have good reason not to trust an Ebert review these days whether it's negative or positive. He's been going off the deep end the past few years as his reviews seem to get lazier and sometimes he can miss the most obvious things that has me questioning if he was actually paying attention to the movie or zoning out. I started noticing this with Ebert's Rush Hour 2 review of all films lol. Hell, I had to check when he did that review which was back in 2001 so I guess it's been more than a few years since his reviews started getting dumb.

yup...it's becoming harder to deny. Make me feel like not visiting their site anymore if they're going to pull unethical crap like this.

Stop with the conspiracy theories.

First its CBM, we are not even suppose to link to them because they are full of a lot of things, and news is not one of them lol.

Second, if WB was really being biased with it, I'm sure they would have done something more for GL, which landed at a 26% and was one of their big expensive films. It's not being biased. Reviewers say what they think and they compile it, its not some mystery.

EDIT: And Parker Wayne I've seen them do this before WB bought them, just email them and tell them the mistake, I'm sure they will fix it. If it indeed becomes a problem people won't go there and they will lose business. But I've seen that stuff where sometimes they count it and they don't, and I know some that have emailed them about it. I think some are making this a little more then it is I think.

Am I the only one who finds some of the positive reviews on The First Avenger strange? When I see them I feel as if the people who gave it "good reviews" in actuality believe that the movie is decent at best. I think that some of the reviewers are being dishonest for some unknown reason.

I don't know the email address or who to email.

And I didn't even notice the CBM article. I'm glad I didn't.

There comes a point where you cannot ignore something that's starring you straight in the face, especially when everyone is watching. RT would lose all credibility if they only posted positive (or just sprinkled a few negative) reviews for GL as there are only 52 positive reviews and new popular movies generally get around 180-210 reviews total.

LOL...here comes Mr. GL to play for the other team.

What the hell is going on? The First Avenger has a higher average rating than Horrible Bosses yet has a lower T-meter than the T-meter that is connected to it.

Well if you look at all the reviews on that one link it does come to like a 82% and they counted all the negative ones on RT as negative....so when RT has no more time to lollygagg around I think we'll be all good.

Guess what I found.

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/critic/nick-schager/movies.php

Look at Horrible Bosses, and look at Captain America. Both have 2.5/4. Yet Horrible Bosses is fresh and Captain America's review is Rotten.

Something fishy is indeed going on.

I wasn't convinced, but that definitely doesn't add up. RT needs to go down, so many people I know accept it as gospel.

Yeah, what's the deal with this? SHH doesn't like competition? Why is linking to that site not allowed? Yeah they're wrong half the time, well, all the time, every time....but, at least they post bootlegs.:o

EDIT: ^ I just answered my own question. *new powers unlocked*

Solidus is correct. This problem has been going on with RT long before Warner bros bought them. I used to post on RT's board 5+ years ago and people used to notice the inconsistencies with the way reviews were counted as fresh or rotten. Some people went as far as to contact RT's site (or the reviewer) to make sure the reviews were correctly categorized.

Sad thing is there is nothing we can do about this, if this bull **** is indeed true.

We have to sit here and watch RT attempt to dent Cap's reputation.

Hindsight is 20/20. It's too bad that reviews weren't embargoed until Friday morning so that we had nothing but fan feedback (which, from what I can tell, is a good 75-80% positive) until then. And on Friday morning we'd have a good consensus of reviews.

and people wouldn't be FREAKING out. (no, that's not true, everyone would be freaking out. but the conspiracies might be less ridiculous.) [oh, wait. yeah, that's right. we're screwed either way]

As far as I can tell EVERY critic that would be or would usually be counted on Rotten tomatoes is being counted right now except for Ebert's and his review isn't even live on his site yet.

Really, guys. the buzz is overall positive. The RT conspiracies aren't going to get you any where.
