I hope this is not another GI Joe. I remember online critics saying some good things after that movie was screened for them. However, once the embargo was lifted, professional critics tore the movie apart.
Have faith, my friend.

well, here in brazil the guys for the press , and very good critics loved the movie, they cant put the total review , but said it is the best marvel movie, on par with iron man, i can put the article but is in portuguese

^ Even more reason not to worry! Advance screeners love it. I'll be seeing it here Wednesday night (thanks to winning preview tickets from CHUD).

Captain America - The First Avenger | The Frying Pan
Can adapt a classic adventure of the most problematic heroes of Marvel Comics

Eric Borgo
18 July 2011

In a year when movies superheroes Marvel Comics had one shining moment ( X-Men: First Class ) and another that gets worse with each revision ( Thor ), Captain America - The First Avenger ( Captain America: The First Avenger 2011) achieves the seemingly impossible in times of global anti-American sentiment: to deliver a great adventure of the most patriotic U.S. flags character.

In climão of Indiana Jones (especially early), the film explores the Nazi obsession with the occult (an idea which was also used in another comic-book adaptation, Hellboy ), but with a cool twist - the mixing of this magical universe / technological Asgard.

With the audience already schooled in the various faces of the Marvel Universe and eagerly anticipating the event-movie The Avengers , Captain America blends all the mythologies of the house ever seen on the big screen. Tony Stark's father, Howard Stark, has a position of great prominence, as well as the Stark Expo 1943 (until the Human Torch original appears here for the most attentive). Do not miss references to other comics as a tribute to the original cover of Captain America Comics 1, 1941. Not to mention the most obvious connections, such as opening and closing scene.

But best of Captain America: The First Avenger is that even if he had removed all such references would still be a fun action movie. The characters are well developed, Chris Evans is (pasme!!) very well in the role of Steve Rogers , the villains and their motivations and the action is convincing equilibradíssima and without exaggeration. Moreover, unlike the other Marvel movies, the comic relief comes in right time and the romance between Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter (a scene out unnecessary jealousy) works very well.

The converted 3-D was also performed satisfactorily, but I can not see if the money is short. There are some problems, however. Especially the climax - more concerned with the Avengers than to terminate a decent movie - and also some scenes in the core, created to sell toys. But few serious defects, which puts Captain America as one of the best movies of Marvel Studios .

Wait for the complete critical, special articles and video interviews of the omelet with Chris Evans, the director Joe Johnston , Hayley Atwell (Peggy Carter), Sebastian Stan (Bucky) and Dominic Coope r (Howard Stark) week's release of the movie!

Captain America: The First Avenger debut July 22 in the U.S. and July 29 in Brazil.

WOW! He's way off the mark with that, althought the rest of the article looked good. If he thought Thor was that bad, and liked Cap, then I'm sure I'll love it.

Indeed, same here. I loved Thor as did most here. So if he's that picky and liked Cap anyway, then we're in.

I thought Thor got better with each viewing. I'm dying to get my hands on the Blu Ray.

I do wish the embargo would lift though. Sounds great so far and the positive reviews can be a good thing at this point, as well as shutting the naysayers up. Plus I'd just really enjoy to see Cap getting some love. If they don't start popping up tomorrow I'll be a tad disappointed, but not very worried.

Not one review is up on Rotten Tomatoes??? I was hoping there would be because the longer the studio waits to release them the more leery I get. I mean, I'm still seeing it regardless but I'm starting to get pissed off that there aren't any reviews yet.

Cap's not only a disaster, but he's probably not getting a sequel either! I had to unsubscribe from that thread, talk about a buzzkill.

I've said it awhile ago and I'll say it again: I think unless Cap becomes a huge disappointment like GL does, Marvel will make a sequel for Capt. America. In 2013, Marvel has already decided to release a pair of sequels for IM and Thor, even though both characters will show up in the previous year with the Avengers. This proves that Marvel (although they still have a decent roster of superheroes even after Sony & Fox's control on other properties) have less faith aside from the ones they've made into full-featured blockbuster films. I think when it comes down to it, between Capt. America 2 or a movie based on Luke Cage, Dr. Strange, Iron Fist, or any other B- and C-list characters, Marvel will choose Capt. America.

Btw, how many characters have already made 2 movies before his first one came out? Capt. America is in good shape and a great movie will only make it easier to see more Cap in the future.

I agree 1,000% Do still wish it was a tad bit longer though, but Hemsworth and Hiddleston made up for the films faults imo.

I don't really understand the need for embargo until 2 days before the release of the movie, quite frankly. If Cap has good reviews now, it'll take away some of the focus away from Potter and start building up a hype among the fans and even casual moviegoers to see this movie. Besides, in terms of perception this embargo will only reinforce negatively on it, and makes it appear as if Marvel is leery of this film and wanted to delay critics' reaction to it until the eleventh hour.

If the reviews are mostly positive, the embargo won't matter. If the reviews come out negative, then the studio is doing damage controll. I really hope it's the former, but I'm not going to worry about it for now.

I dunno, I'm guessing they want some kinda "super EXPLOSION of last minute hype" with the reviews coming out of nowhere in the HP7 aftermath but it seems like an odd strategy. Most of this particular movie has had odd strategy that often involved holding off till later than usual and it's paid off so far, but we'll see for sure come this weekend. All I know is I'm seeing it, and based on early buzz I'll likely really enjoy it.

I don't think there is anything to worry about regarding Captain America. An embargo? So what?

You have to stop comparing this to Green Lantern. The movie bombed and didn't draw well after it premiered because it looked stupid to the masses from the outset. Captain America doesn't look stupid, it looks like a good movie. I'm sure reviews help at the box office but people still will go see garbage. It's very much like food. Everybody knows that a Butterfingers bar lacks nutritional value but people still eat them anyway because they look good and are a temporary, tasty fix. That's what Transformers 3 is and why it was successful. Green Lantern on the other hand looked like an overcooked t-bone steak marinated in Mountain Dew, drenched with chocolate, gravy, and tabasco sauce, sprinkled with a tablespoon of salt, topped off with whipped cream, caviar, and sweet and sour sauce with a side of cotton candy, Mexican beans, and walnuts. Who wanted to eat that s--t? I truly don't think Captain America has to worry about that. The trailers looked and were great.

As for the embargo, who does this really affect? The general audience that make these movies hits aren't going to be scouring various websites to find reviews. You people are looking at this like fans, not regular people. If they release the reviews a week earlier, it's just lost in the shuffle of Harry Potter's record breaking weekened. They don't need to create buzz with this because I am sure there already is buzz with the previous Marvel movies and this movie getting millions of eyeballs of people seeing Transformers 3. If the movie does well, great. If it doesn't, oh well. They aren't going to abandon Captain America regardless of what happens because he is too prominent of a character. The movie has been getting mad buzz from online critics (/film, Latino Review, etc.), so I don't see any cause for concern.

I try not to snark too much on other CBMs especially when said movies are already on the downward spiral... but this pretty much wins the internets. And life. For today. :woot:

wow, some of those new tv spots have peaked my interest immensely. There are certain moments I look for in an origin cap movie and all signs point to me seeing at least some. Look forward to the first marvel studio film I like since IM1.

As for the embargo, paramount is kinda weird sometimes, they actually get to read all the reviews before they are published. Honestly though is is really only one possible reason to have not lifted the embargo yet, but time will tell. The reviews can't be worse than Thor.

Thanks everyone! :woot:

I know there's the big premiere for the movie tomorrow night (and maybe another one on Wednesday? I'm not sure) Maybe they're just waiting till then. Have a huge premiere, red carpet pics, interviews, the works. And then add on top a whole slew of good (fingers-crossed!) reviews.

But who knows. (lol just watch reviews start popping up tonight.)
