The Official Contest of Marvels 3 Discussion Thread

I can't remember...but, did we have to remove spaces between the character's name, also? Like, should Hulk (Savage) be Hulk(Savage)?

We used to need to do that, but I was also annoyed by that. So I found a better way to read files so we shouldn't have to worry about spaces anymore.

I'll double check when I get home tonight, just to make sure the program can handle spaces.

I'm gonna rework mine a little bit. I'll have it in to you guys by this weekend.

Ok, just checked. Don't need to worry about spaces in character names. Just as long as the names are the same in the master list.

I forgot to add my name to the top of my list. Do I need to resend it or can you just type that in for me?

No. You must resend it, for I am lazier than you!!! :p

At that point I just started doing groups. "Eh... let's throw what's left of the cosmic characters here, then the X-men, then the X-Villains, then the Avengers, etc."

I'm trying to put the ones I know won't be available in the back. But yeah. It's getting close to that. :D

EDIT --- Ok. Just sent in the Master List in two parts. Hope that works.

:ff: :ff: :ff:

Actually, it will. If you have character on your list that aren't in the final list, my program will stop and complain.

I haven't done anything with your list yet. Haven't even looked at it. So you can still resend. It's only the characters that got swapped out are a problem.

What I can do to try and help out, is run your list against the new list and see which characters my program doesn't like. Those will be the ones that need changed.

If it all possible, I would rather you trade them out or at least if you could tell me which ones I have to take out...it would be allot of help.

Nick Fury, Punisher, and Ares were added in and taken out were Ant-Man (Scott Lang), G-Type, and Blue Shield.

Well I had them already in my list. I however may have not taken the others out. Weig, would it be a big problem for you to just delete them which would avoid me having to go over my whole list again which I really do not want to do :o.

I'll go through it tonight and find the differences. Do you care what order they're replaced in? I was just going to leave each replacement in the original's place in the list.

Now that I have my list made I'm allowing myself to look at other's lists. Let me tell you, it's painful. I see characters I really like on higher spots on other lists and I'm like "Dangit!"

Also, it sounds like Mr. Green might be interested in playing.

How many players would that make?

I've lost count. I haven't heard back from quite a few so I'm not sure.

Also, that program you have to sort the characters. Does it go from the first person to the last, then start over with the first person.... or does it go first person to the last then last to first?

I know we talked about that last season and I didn't remember how we decided on that. I think we said the second way would be fairest for the later half of the player list so they aren't getting all the crappy picks.

Also, what schedule were we thinking? One week for matches like before? I'm just wondering because one of the reasons we kept losing players during the other tourneys is that they would run so long, people had other priorities pop up. So we might want to consider shortening it a day or two. Even shortening it by just a day, with all the matches we play, could end up shaving off a couple of weeks.

You know what? I can't remember. I want to say the program does a straight draft (first-last, first-last, first-last...). But now that you mention it, we did talk about a snake draft (first-last-first-last-first...). I'll check when I get home.

You know, I hadn't really thought about it. You're right though, even shaving off 1 day will help. I'm not against it if Phaed isn't. It just means we'll have to rotate the days instead of having a straight schedual like before. Maybe that's something the 3 of us can talk over and figure out where to shave a day or two off... if we even want to.

Days are subject to change... but just for visualization.

We can maybe do 2 day debate, 2 day vote, 1 day off.

Sunday - Start match
Wednesday - start voting
Thursday relax day.

Friday - Start match
Sunday - start voting
Tuesday - relax day

And just keep rotating it. Cutting it down from 7 days to 5 days should help shave the tournaments lengthy duration quite a bit. If it's not enough debating time we can have that be 3 days and it's still shaving off a day. And if it ends up causing too many problems we can always go back to the 7 day routine.

Rotating days, rather than having everything always being due on the same days, also helps people who have odd schedules. At least some of the time, the matches probably will better fit in with their plans.

Ok, the program doesn't do a snake draft, but if that's the way we want to go, I can modify it.

Now I'll start fixing Ahura's list.

Actually, because I don't want to influence mine, I'll fix Ahura's when mine is done.

Probably a good idea. I opened Ahura's before doing mine and saw his number 1 before thinking better of it and closing it. I was tempted to go with the same number 1 because I know otherwise I couldn't get the person. Fortunately, I'm a better person than that I chose to be fair and went with someone else. Trust me, that temptation sucks.

I think with the time thing, we are stuck in a catch 22. It does drag on with each week...but, if we shorten it, that just means we'll have debating burn out. (Personally, I would be burned out if I had to research, debate, redebate more than once a week.)

I think we lost more people because they lost some of their favorite characters, or got peeved with the losses they incurred.

True. Do we maybe want to stay the same and get everyone's feedback on that and then shorten it if necessary?

Also, Mr. Green's turned his list in to me, so he's in. Did you guys get it?

That is fine by me. Thank you
