The Official Dark Avengers Thread

I didn't say that Decimation did anything different than what's been done, and you're right Messiah Complex accomplished what I think they really wanted, to completely change the status quo.

But it did have some impact that wasn't temporary, but it was mostly relegated to the younger mutant group.

Who cares if there are big changes? I want a good story. It doesn't have to change **** to be good.

I want there to be an Onslaught story of this generation.

Where it's literally 90% of the MU heroes ripping into one huge badass that can't really be beaten and just keeps tearing things apart.

Maybe that's what Dark Reign is. Buncha the villains (THE HOODS GONNA LEAD THEM ) get pissed about the invasion, and then realize that after it's over (the invasion) it's the perfect time to team up and take over earth.

Onslaught remains to be one of my all time favorite stories marvel has ever done.

It took the combined efforts of Mutants, Supers, Gods, and Inhumans to defeat him. All because he was a amalgam of Xavier's and Magneto's powers taken shape, and then powered up thanks to Franklin Richards and Nate Grey.

I loved that story.

Ditto I loved Onslaught so much. That was around the time I really reaaaallly got into comics. See that was an example of a big event that I didn't mind, not the forgettable ones that show up every 2.5 months.

At least with DC the stuff their doing post-FC (Flash: Rebirth, the new Batman status-quo, Justice League, etc.) can be either really freaking awesome or really dumb giving you that excitement.

What's going on with Justice League?

Not much, as far as I can tell. I don't know what hippie's talking about, actually; I'm just as bored with the "major changes" DC's instituting as I am with those of Marvel at this point. Flash: Rebirth is nothing more than a regression, Batman RIP is a nostalgic romp through the ******ed Silver Age stories that never made any sense and everyone was happy to forget, and Justice League still isn't the all-star team it should be.

I get the feeling that that team we saw with Doom, Loki, Emma Frost, et al. is actually going to wind up saving the day in Secret Invasion and, consequently, Marvel's fickle, ******ed citizenry will declare them the premiere 'superheroes' and treat them like royalty while the actual (kinda, anyway) superheroes get s*** on for failing. Dark Avengers follows whatever stragglers of the hero community are left to oppose Doom's New Avengers, and Mighty Avengers changes its direction to something else.

All pure speculation on my part, but wouldn't it blow your mind if I'm actually right?

If you're right, I'll mail you a check for 5grand.

I could totally do without the whole "omg I'm vixin and my powers are awesome so I'm were going to take up more than an arc to explain it" thing that they're doing right now. And the other boringass stories/characters that are in it.

Nope. Bendis' central theme to his Avenger event stories are that heroes always screw up and always need to be saved by luck or a convenient third party. It would make complete sense and allow Bendis to repeat himself, something he can never resist doing. He clearly likes villains more than heroes in 616 and it wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Frankly, if that happens, Marvel's heroes need to say, "**** you" to the ungrateful citizens of Earth, let Dr. Doom rule the planet, and go off into space where they can be appreciated as heroes and Nova Corpsmen. ;) Some people felt Nova "abandoning" Earth for being too messed up in the INITIATIVE tie-in was "out of character", but it seems every year they prove him right.

DARK REIGN leading into DARK AVENGERS just seems more of the same, "one bleak event" after the other. Every single Marvel event seems to wind up somewhere bleaker and more depressing to Bendis, and therefore most of Marvel. This sort of depressing trend wore thin with the X-Universe and is wearing thin with Marvel. I'm not saying, let's all be chipper Golden Age stories again, but isn't there a happy medium? Marvel's been going "dark" for ages now. Least now it is literally on the title.

On a side note, I find it unintentionally hilarious that some of the SECRET INVASION banners say, "Embrace change", which happens to be Barack Obama's central theme. Is he a Skrull? :) I know this wasn't in any way planned, but like I said, unintentionally funny.

But Emma IS a villain. I never bought this "Grow young and be a good guy" crap. It didn't work for Magneto and it's not working for her. She was better when she was 15 years older and a villainous *****. Now she's just boring.

:doom: :doom: :doom:

Agreed!

I don't care either way. Emma as a heroine or a villainess is fine by me because, frankly, the Marvel universe with no Emma at all would be fine by me. The only reaction she's gotten from me lately is annoyance at the implication that she's even remotely a match for Xavier in the cliffhanger of last week's X-Men: Legacy.

That was really ****ing lame.

Xavier's memory is still funky, but I don't think it's affected his mutant powers. I imagine Emma's threat to Charles comes not from actual power levels, but her affinity for playing dirty.

Emma is a dirty dirty ****e.

I have to admit, news of Bendis leaving MIGHTY AVENGERS before the end of the year is probably the best Christmas present I could imagine. Has it been announced who is replacing him? All these threads got merged and I don't feel like wading through posts while at lunch. ;)

wait ..didnt they say Mighty was "finished" meaning done with issue 20?

No one can replace Bendis!

But Ultimate Avengers sounds pretty cool.

However, Millar and Marvel seem totally CLUELESS as to WHY the Ultimates Universe has waned in interest.

ITS DELAYS! You can mark the decline of the Ultimate U..easily with around the period of Ultimates 2 11-12 and Hulk Vs Wolverine.

Tie Ins (like the Galactus/extinction stuff) just didnt work with these delays..and people got a sense of irrelevance in the other books.

Ultimates 3 suckiness, which i challenge anyway, has more to do with people hating LOEB. Personally I see the Ultimate U rounding a nice cornerwith Origins and Ultimatum.

MILLAR is talking "no watered down Ultimate U"..Tier 1 writers, and Top Artists.....which equals DELAYS.

MILLAR is talking CLASSIC villians. Which is very cool. It seems too bad that Ultimate Steve Rogers seems done for as SHIELD is supposed to have a new cap in the works...Ultimate JOHN WALKER SAGA anyone?

The Best book of the Ultimates has always been Spidey. And mostly becuase of Bagely and Bendis cranking stuff out at a standard quality rate and building endearment.

MILLAR doesnt get that his stock can be seriously blown by pumping out delayed books. It's more opportunity to WHIFF..and Fantastic Four proves that.

Heh...cause Bendis is the best Avengers writer ever....OH WAIT...

Stan Lee, Roy Thomas, Steve Englehart, Roger Stern, Kurt Busiek all wrote better Avengers...

I can't wait to see someone write avengers right again.

No, Ultimates 3 is a ****ty book because it's a ****ty book. The reason people hate Loeb is because of the crap he has been peddling these last few years.

I don't really know what "playing dirty" means in the context of psychic warfare, but Charles' level of self-restraint is at an all-time low in Legacy. He should totally stomp Emma. Hopefully, in the next issue he will.

I'm sure Xavier will keep himself in check and not unleash his full power like he did Mags during Fatal Attractions. If he did that then a few years down the road we'll have a new Onslaught with huge boobies.

Seriously though, you also have to take into account that he was just worked over on the astral plane by Exodus and Sinister, so Xavier may just be tired...which means she'll seem to have the upper hand until he tires of her and then Wham-O.

Fred Savage could replace Bendis.

Fred Savage is a hell of a comedic director, if It's Always Sunny is any indication.

Well, I don't claim to understand the minute specifics of fictional, psychic warfare, but I'm sure Emma is capable of coming up with something to throw Charles off balance. But yes, being that it's essentially his book, I'm sure he'll rock that *****. :o
