The Official Dark Avengers Thread

Ah man. New B/W picture. Looks Spidery.

I am intrigued...what is this about!??!

If it happens one year later then there's no way the heroes lost. I'm betting it has something to do with Doom's new posse.

Those B/W images go along with the Marvel Noir line that's coming out soon, as mentioned in the article. It's not related to Dark Reign from what we can tell.

This article doesn't say this happens one year later. It only says that it's about the after-effects of the Secret Invasion. That makes me think that it will follow immediately after Secret Invasion, just as the "The Initiative"-labeled comics came directly after Civil War.

Also, it seems that Mighty Avengers will be ending after issue #20 and will be replaced by Dark Avengers.

IMO, this news definitely seems to hint to the Skrulls' victory with the Secret Invasion. :)

Hopefully Hitch will be drawing Ultimate Avengers.

Then we can all pretend that Ultimates 3 never happened.

Fantomex.

Fantomex or maybe Agent Zero.

There's no way in hell that's Fantomex. For one, why would Marvel promote a Fantomex image? I mean, whatever this project is, is obviously much bigger than Fantomex just judging from the ad space it's taking up in Marvel's comics. Number two, hasn't Marvel all but expilicitly said that Fantomex isn't coming back? He was a Grant Morrison creation. For whatever reason, Marvel seems content to pretend like he never existed.

It's [BLACKOUT]Spider-Man[/BLACKOUT], or some version of him. That's not a smoking gun fellas.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions, actually. For all we know, that could be smoke. I'm not convinced that is Spider-Man.

But who knows, you might be right.

Why would they advertise mutant characters..Gambit even...before Spider-Man?

Why not? They're both as popular as each other, i thought?

Maybe Gaiman's coming back to do 2008, a look at what the Marvel universe would've been like if all the characters emerged in 2008 instead of some nebulous time period 13 to 15 years before the present. :)

The only mutant character I could see them advertising before Spider-Man would be Wolverine...but essentially these are their two cash cows.

I just don't see them showing Gambit before Spidey. I could happen, but not often. That would be like if they did a major DC crossover, and instead of showing say Superman or Batman, they advertise Fire.

I just don't see it.

I'd buy this if Gaiman is involved. Sadly, I'm thinking it'll be more along the lines of Millar.

Who says they're doing this in the order of popularity? To me, it looks like Marvel was teasing that it was some sort of Elseworlds X-Men project. They let it simmer, letting the internets theorize about that Jean Grey reference, and then they threw us a Spider-Man image to throw everyone off again. Good marketing.

Yea, you're probably right. I think you're right after reading the Newsarama article...which I just read.

The first image that popped into my head was a Darkclaw-inspired Avengers line-up. Then I threw up a little.

This has been revealed to be Marvel Noir.

According to the Newsarama.com article just posted:

Marvel Noir is an upcoming new line that explains those four b&w teaser images the publisher has released over the last few months. The line will apparently launch with a title featuring the X-Men, with Spider-Man and then other characters/properties to follow.

And as you can see, they've mentioned Spider-Man specifically. I'm thinking that, yes, that dude is the Noir version of Spider-Man, who uses a webbing gun similar to the one Spider-Boy did from the Amalgam Universe.

Heh...no matter though, the idea of Marvel Noir style mini sounds very cool.

If only Miller would wright it.

I can see it now:

"I'm the GD Spider-Man!"

Has anybody considered that that symbol in the bottom-left corner looks like a lower-case Greek alpha?

I hope that those pictures shown a while back with the villians and Emma Frost isn't these Dark Avengers.

:(

I saw someone's comment somewhere (I think on that Newsarama article) that that is actually the signature of sorts for the artist who drew the images...

Oh, never mind then.

Meh, pass.

The black and white ones?

Those are for a new Noir line that Marvel is gonna start.

Makes me kinda think that they really are doing away with most of hte ultimate lineup.

No, not the B&W pictures. A while back they showed a group photo of some villians, which included Emma also. We figured it involved SI at some point, but I wonder if that was a teaser image of the Dark Avengers.
