Homecoming The Official "Don't Panic" Thread

But its still nothing to panic about either way

True like I said it's something more to worry once we know when sequel is to be on docket. Plus still how much time goes by between civil war and solo 1. Then solo 1 and the infinity wars. Along with what grade we are starting at.

Really like I said marvel may want to do more hs time. But if it takes more then 3 yrs to solo 2 to come out. I doubt we will see peter in hs past solo 1 solo 2, civil war, and both infinity films.

Seriously don't panic and here's why!

"In basic terms, Spider-Man stays a Sony character. Sony pays for the movie, markets the movie, and distributes the movie, but Marvel makes the creative decisions. Check out the full interview with Kevin Feige below, where he explains it in more detail, and also gushes over Tom Holland as Spider-Man."

I can't say enough about how over the moon I am.

Director choice also has me a little worried. Jon Watts? Who the hell is this guy, and from looking at his IMDB page, it doesn't look like he's done anything impressive. I know James Gunn turned out to be an unexpected good choice for GOTG, but he at least had done stuff before.

I really wish the Russos were directing this instead, but they're doing Infinity War next. I'm fine with Marvel finding talented relatively unknown directors for the solo movies, but I don't know if doing that for Spider-Man, the most popular superhero ever is such a good idea.

Cop Car was excellent. No need to worry about Watts.

I honestly now wish that they would have kept RDJ's Stark out of this thing.

After the casting, I'm treating this like a bonus movie. Meaning we still get the REAL MCU films we were going to get anyway.

Maybe this movie is Feige's way of feeding all those idiot SJW's who whine about everything. Feed them a bone on Sony's dollar and keep their crap away from his original vision that stays true to the books we all grew up reading? Spider-Man: Homecoming is lining up to be juvenile garbage but it may "take one for the team" and allow other properties to stay on track.

That's a positive in the bigger picture.

Just watched The Nice Guys. There's no doubt in my mind Rice is not playing "Betty Brandt."

Yeah I know it'd be like if they'd made Heimdall or Valkyire or Baron Mordo or Nick Fury black too. Or like making the Captain Marvel movie about Carol Danvers and not her original male predecessor. Or making the Mandarin British or the Ancient One into some white chick.

That'd never happen in the MCU.

The arguments about why the film is doomed are so amusing to me.

They've changed the races of existing white characters.

They changed a costume of a character who they obviously thought might not look good in live-action.

They've done out of left field or unexpected casting choices.

They've taken liberties with the source material.

That basically describes 90 percent of the movies the MCU has put out.

To your last two posts I say

How do you guys rank the MCU films from best to worst? Marvel has a good track record which gives me reassurance that the film will be good, or at the very least, won't come close to being a disaster.

This is my ranking along with letter grades:

  1. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (A+)
  2. The Avengers (A+)
  3. Iron Man (A+)
  4. Captain America: Civil War (A)
  5. Guardians of the Galaxy (A)
  6. Doctor Strange (A)
  7. Ant-Man (B+)
  8. The Avengers: Age of Ultron (B)
  9. Captain America: The First Avenger (B)
  10. Iron Man 3 (B-)
  11. Thor (B-)
  12. The Incredible Hulk (C)
  13. Iron Man 2 (C-)
  14. Thor: The Dark World (D)
I feel like Spider-Man: Homecoming can at least end up around #6 or #7 on my personal list. This list is fluid btw, so it changes every now and then.

I really disliked Thor: The Dark World, but it ranks so low because I have little interest in the Thor mythology. Otherwise I think the film is competently made. I love him as an Avenger, but not as a solo character.

As Marvel continues, their films get more sophisticated and increase in quality. Most of the films at the bottom of my list are from phase 1 and a couple from phase 2. I predict that all of the films here on out--at least for phase 3 and 4--will be A and B quality films with an occasional C.

I rank movies by how much I enjoy them.
The only two MCU movies that I had trouble enjoying were IM2
and TDW.

spot on mateso we sut back with our popcorn and just enjoy for what it is.

So Spider-man won't be a part of the MCU after the sequel.
**** you, Sony. **** you so much.

funny how things can change so fast

Think of it this way with Spider-Man swinging back to Sony in 2019 & Sony getting all of the Box Office from Homecoming whats the point of supporting Homecoming in theaters when you are just supporting Sony ? Sony crashes & burns much faster if Homecoming bombs

They did not say that Spider-Man would definitely not be a part of the MCU after the sequel.
They said that their contract currently ends after the sequel comes out in 2019 and hinted it's up for renegotiation after that. Once Homecoming makes bank, the deal will definitely be extended beyond 2019 and all the posturing will disappear.

Or Sony gets sold off by then and rights revert to Disney. Either way Spider-Man will likely continue to be part of the MCU.
