Equip your Dragon Quest X character with the hero's Reactor.

Square Enix has officailly announced it will release a demo for Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 via the 3DS Nintendo eShop in Japan in early March.

Though, that itself isn’t very newsworthy, as Square Enix confirmed plans to launch a demo last month.

By playing the demo, you can receive an original item in the form of the Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 protagonist’s “Reactor” to have your character wear in Dragon Quest X. To receive this present, you’ll need the Dragon Quest X: Boukensha no Odekake Chou Benri Tool for 3DS. The campaign will begin in mid-March.

Player Recreates Final Fantasy XIV Towns In Dragon Quest Builders. February 26, 2016 . 12:30pm

A YouTube user recently recreated towns from Final Fantasy XIV in Dragon Quest Builders,
and the recreations exhibit impressive accuracy, right down to the various shops and architecture.

YouTube user “muu” has gone and recreated two towns from Final Fantasy XIV in Dragon Quest Builders. Though Minecraft is much more known for being used for fan recreations, this Dragon Quest-meets-Minecraft title still offers a wealth of room for creativity, despite being a single-player, and a more story-centric game.

Those who have played Final Fantasy XIV may instantly recognize the recreated cities of Revenant’s Toll and the seaside town of Aleport. The recreations exhibit lots of painstaking detail, right down to the various shops found in Revenant’s Toll, to the docks and architecture of Aleport. You can check out both of the town recreations in the videos below.

The video gives us a demonstration of the “Reactor” feature, which lets you find hidden treasures and look up identities of monsters, or just to check their info. It also reveals hidden paths.

In the next part, they give us a look at the “Monster Ride” feature, which lets you travel across Break World while riding monsters. You can use them to go over land, water, and the skies.

Following is a look at how you recruit monsters using the “Scout Attack” to increase your percentage of getting them to join your side. They can then be fused for creating more powerful monsters.

You can also compete with others through Internet connectivity. There are over 500 different monsters from the series, making it the most voluminous title as far as monster-collecting goes.

Importers Rejoice, Amazon Japan Is Now Offering International Shipping For Games. March 9, 2016 . 1:00am

Those of you who regularly import games from Japan will now get to save some bucks, as Amazon Japan has began international shipment for video games.

Those of you who regularly import games from Japan will now get to save some bucks, as Amazon Japan has began international shipment for video games. [Thanks NeoGAF.]

The international shipment works for items sold directly via Amazon, so that means no third-party sellers, including the ones that are “fulfilled by Amazon.” This means you’ll be able to make purchases directly from Amazon Japan, without having to pay the extra cost you would from the middleman.

The above is a look at how you can get the international shipping options, and it’ll also show the USD currency and exchange rates for your purchase. You’re able to use regular credit or debit cards to make your purchase.

Keep in mind that you can always change the Amazon Japan language settings to English to make things a little easier to navigate around.

I checked out Dragon Quest Builders on PS4, which is currently listed at 6,381 yen. At the checkout, it shows the item going for $54.43 USD at its current exchange rate, with shipping & handling adding $7.65 for a total of $62.08, which is about as much as we’d pay for a new game in the United States.Keep in mind that this total price also includes the International Shipping, so it’s actually quite cheap when given the other options for importers.

Another thing worth noting is that you’ll need to make an Amazon Japan account to order from it, since you can’t use your regular Amazon.com account.

Square Enix is bringing Dragon Quest Builders to PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in North America and Europe this October, the company announced.

The PlayStation 4 version will launch at retail and the PS Vita version via the PlayStation Store.

The block-building RPG will see players use their creativity to gather and combine a variety of unique tools and materials in order to rebuild Alefgard, a realm destroyed by the evil ruler of monsters, the Dragonlord.
The game offers sandbox-style gameplay combined with an “immersive story” and allows players to interact with a host of characters and monsters.

Players can create an “infinite variety” of structures, in response to “extravagant requests” from citizens in need of new homes. It promises a control system that is both “easy-to-learn and quick-to-master.”

With even the idea of creativity relegated to mere legend, the people of Alefgard wander the ruins of their former home, scrounging and scavenging in the dust to survive.

I don't care much for the spin offs, but the core Dragon Quest games are all I play now.

I love it on handheld. It's the ultimate way to relax grinding like a mad man. The gameplay and music are godly.

I'm ok with both. we it's due to the spin off's we're getting the main line again. if they can put even more story in the spinoff's to connect to the main lines that would be cool.

Dragon Quest VII For Nintendo 3DS Is Getting Localized Thanks To The Voices Of Western Fans. June 15, 2016 . 2:20pm

During a Nintendo’s Treehouse Live at E3 stream today, it was revealed that Square Enix originally had no intentions of bringing Dragon Quest VII on 3DS to the West, but that changed when they heard more from fans.

According to Square Enix, since Dragon Quest VII is so text-heavy, they felt that localizing it would be way too much trouble for what it was worth, so they didn’t even consider bringing it overseas at first.

However, there was a lot of strong feedback from fans, especially a group of core players from France, that continuously sent letters to Square Enix and Nintendo, asking for a localization for the West. They also saw how many people wanted the game from the petitions that were out there over the years.

After realizing its high demand from the passionate fans abroad, Square Enix decided to give in and go through with the localization for the fans.

Dragon Quest VII is releasing on September 16, 2016 for Nintendo 3DS.

Square Enix Once Had A Pitch For A “Dragon Quest Baseball” Game . June 20, 2016 . 4:15pm

Dragon Quest Builders producers spoke to Siliconera about the freedom Square Enix has with the Dragon Quest series,
along with a bit on the possible multiplayer they may add in its sequel.

3 comments Read >
dqbuilders_thumb.jpg

During E3 last week, Siliconera spoke with Dragon Quest Builders producer Noryuoshi Fujimoto and executive producer Yu Miyake about the upcoming “block make” RPG.

Why did you want to return to Alefgard and make Dragon Quest Builders a ‘what if’ story to Dragon Quest 1?

Noriyoshi Fujimoto, Producer: One of the reasons is this is the 30th anniversary of the Dragon Quest series. We wanted to go back to Alefgard and reintroduce that world. Another reason is this game merges the sandbox style gameplay with a RPG. For example, in Dragon Quest IV, V, or VI the RPG elements are very dense. We wanted to have a good balance between the sandbox and RPG elements so we went back to a simpler style where both styles of gameplay can shine.

From making Warriors-style action games to the Rocket Slime series and now to a sandbox RPG with Dragon Quest Builders there is a lot of freedom with the Dragon Quest series that other Square Enix series may not have. Why do you think there is more freedom with Dragon Quest and what kind of genre would you want to experiment with for your dream Dragon Quest game?

Yu Miyake, Executive Producer: I can’t say. It’s not a dream! [Laughs]

NF: There is a solid genre that we have in mind and we can probably go forward and make it if Mr. Hori says so.

YM: There was a proposal for a Dragon Quest baseball game in the office. [Laughs] That’s not going to happen, but just to show you an idea of how free we are when we brainstorm ideas.

With so many different styles of games what would you say is the soul of a Dragon Quest game compared to other RPGs?

YM: The base concept for Dragon Quest is you, the player, are the protagonist in the game and anybody can dive in to enjoy the game even if you haven’t played games before. Using that as the element we want to explore different genres.

Fujimoto-san, in an earlier interview you mentioned you were considering multiplayer for a Dragon Quest Builders sequel. What else would you like to do if you had a chance to make a sequel?

NF: From our end, would you want a multiplayer mode? Japanese people really hate it when other people break their stuff. One of the difficulties with multiplayer is what kind of guidelines should we have in a multiplayer system. That’s on my mind if we were to consider a multiplayer mode. There is a lot we can expand on if we make a sequel including other features that were cut during deadlines.

YM: One of those was a waterfall, I’d like to make one of those!

Dragon Quest Builders will launch in North America on October 11 and Europe on October 14, 2016 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.

Dragon Quest VII originally released in 2000 in Japan for the PlayStation, and follows the story of a boy and his group of friends as they work to restore the lost continents of the past via stone tablets they find on their adventures. The 3DS remake of the game brings with it enhanced visuals as well as the absence of random encounters in favor of visible enemy encounters.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past will release on September 16th in North America and Europe for the Nintendo 3DS.

We’re not exactly sure what the occasion is to have the $20 game for free at the moment, but you can simply hit up the Amazon page here and start downloading the game for free on Android devices.

Going by some of the feedback we’ve seen of Dragon Quest VIII on smartphone, it’s probably not as good as the original PS2 version or the 3DS version that is expected to release later this year, but free stuff is always awesome.

We’ve known that Dragon Quest X has been in development for PlayStation 4 for a while now, but producer Yosuke Saito and director Chikara Saito confirmed in Weekly Famitsu that it’s also in development for NX. [Thanks, DualShockers.]

Last year, Square Enix announced that Dragon Quest X’s Nintendo NX development was “under consideration,” but it was confirmed that it is in fact in development for Nintendo’s upcoming console in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine.

While we haven’t heard much about the PlayStation 4 version of Dragon Quest X, producer Yosuke Saito mentioned that it will release in Japan with good timing, and well ahead of Dragon Quest XI.

Dragon Quest X is currently available for Wii, Wii U, PC, Android, iOS, and Nintendo 3DS.

Dragon Quest Builders May Get A Bit Naughty. August 15, 2016 . 8:00pm

The ratings summary provided by the ESRB states two characters may spend some “special time” together.

76 comments Read >

Dragon Quest Builders touts a “family-friendly” gameplay experience. However, while rebuilding Alefgard, players may uncover a romantic scenario that might have its naughty moments. According to the ESRB, there is some text in the English language version of the game that appears to suggest two characters may have the option to share some “special time” alone together after dark.

The full ratings summary, as provided by the ESRB, is as follows:
This is an action role-playing game in which players assume the role of a hero who must rebuild the world using the power of creation. Players traverse environments, gather and combine raw materials, build structures, and engage in combat against attacking monsters (e.g., skeletons, golems, dragons). Players use swords, hammers, and bombs to defeat enemies; most attacks cause enemies to burst/fall apart on the battlefield before disappearing. One enemy creature (“bloody hand”) is depicted as a hand covered in red slime. The game also contains some suggestive text/dialogue (e.g., “Scandalous Swimsuit: Racy red swimwear for those who like to show some skin” and “When night falls, do the two of you retire to the same room to spend some special time together.”). During the course of the game, players can acquire or craft a “beer barrel” item. The words “damn” and “hell” appear in text/dialogue.

Fans can find out how this situation plays out when Dragon Quest Builders launches on October 11, 2016 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.
