The Official Final Fantasy XII Thread

Vaan kinda reminds me of Hugo from Suikoden III (in looks) and Yuuki from Grandia 3 in character. I read a little of his story. Just like Yuuki he wants to fly though in his case he wants to be an air pirate (Skies of Arcadia?). I do like his look though. Maybe people are getting tired of J-RPG's generic "young bright-eyed" protagonists especially when compared to socially inept (I mean that in a good way) characters like Cloud or Squall

In regards to the "system quality" debate....

Sony, Microsoft...whatever, neither can take a fall like Nintendo products.

Microsoft? Recalled Xboxes and 360s from launch, blue screen of death, red ring of death, who knows what of death my copy of Vista will show me, Microsoft has a rightly earned reputation for having never put out anything reliable.

Sony? I've never actually met ANYONE who had a problem with any Sony product, only read about a few cases on forums like these.

However, regarding any system, everyone here is clearly forgetting the biggest factor in how well something will work:it's delivery.

Ever worked for a shipping company like UPS, or a retailer like WalMart? I have, and let me tell you-those things are abused to hell and back on their entire delivery. At every stop. So you got a wonky PS2, 360, whatever-not neccessarily the fault of the parent company, consider how many hands have picked it up, stacked (thrown?) it, unstacked it, slammed it onto a conveyor belt, slammed it onto a pallet or shipping crate, moved it to something else for further delivery, randomly tossed into your Walmart delivery truck, falls out of the truck while unloading, chunked into an overstock shelf, then manhandled by careless employees.

Oh, WHY can't Apple or Nintendo manufacture everything for everyone?

....actually, that's what we need. Apple/Mac needs to get into the console business. Ohyes.

Anyhow, back to FF12....so far, me likey still....equipping/licenses are a little over complicated, but probably because I'm still being stingy with LP....I'm AMAZED by the graphics-for lower polygon count, they've crammed an awful lot into every fully 3d scene....

Am I the only one who likes the license system? I find it very easy to use and it encourages you to battle rather than to avoid enemies. I'm loving this game. I officially have no life right now.

I like it too. It's very simple and easy to use. I think alot of people are intimidated by it, but it's not that complicated once you get used to it.

I like all the weapon and armor choices in the game, and how they're all balanced out. It really makes for some interesting strategy and customization.

Everything about the game is just so much more sophisticated than previous installments. To me, this game feels like the Batman Begins of Final Fantasy...

I agree with everything you just said.

Basch is a very good character. My favorite so far.

The license system is very nice I think. Very easy to use. Your whole party can be white mages which I think is pretty cool. I also like the Gambit system.

Yeah, the gambit system is a fresh addition.

I like them all, but Basch is special because of his resemblance to Jack Bauer. :o :oldrazz:

What I don't like about the license system is that you have to purchase magic even after you've unlocked it for use.

Yeah, for technicks and magicks I think it would make more sense to have trainers instead stores...

...but I think in the end, they just needed to make it harder to get ahold of spells.

That would've been great, just like in Oblivion where seeking out all the master level trainers was a quest in itself. Oh well, there' always another Final Fantasy.

I dunno about that.... Looks like they're going back to the Nomura/J-pop stuff again with 13. :csad:

Then there's always another Elder Scrolls.

Eww, gross. I only play Bioware and Final Fantasy games. Elder Scrolls is generic fantasy hodgepodge. :)

I got my copy + Killzone Liberation :D x 10000

Actually, it's the only series that is a true RPG in every sense of the word. And the "generic fantasy hodgepodge" that was Oblivion was actually reviewed more favorably across the board (94% at Gamerankings) than FFXII (92%). LOL, talk about poetic justice. :D:up:

Good for it. I don't really care. I can see why people would like it, but I'd rather have a "psuedo-RPG" than a true RPG that looks bland and has a crap story.

And I'd rather have a true RPG that totally and completely immerses you in it's vast universe instead of some wannabe comparitively more linear adventure game pretending to be an RPG.

Um, that's nice? Final Fantasy XII, Balduer's Gate, KOTOR do all of those things but with better characters, a better story, and better art design.

Oh yeah, another edit - Final Fantasy is THE linear adventure game pretending to be an RPG. Not just some wannabe. Get it straight.

FFXII and KOTOR are more linear and less vast and immersive than Oblivion. As for Baldur's Gate, surely you aren't comparing nearly a decade older D&D style RPG with the more recently released RPGs.

Baldur's Gate is a classic and the janitor at Bioware has more talent than the cut & paste hacks over at whatever studio that makes Elder Scrolls.

I fear for your sanity if you think so highly of Bioware's janitor of all people. I mean, I also love Bioware as much as the next guy but daayum, that's taking fanboyism to a whole new low. :(

And those "hacks" are still infinitely better than the pedophile sickos at Square Enix obsessed with pretty under-age boy protagonists and metrosexuals.

I fear for yours, since you seem to take everything literally....

Nah, I prefer Square Enix. I'm sorry, I guess that makes me gay or something since I just oh so love those pretty little boys... :whatever:

No, but seriously, I can see why people think Oblivion is such a good game. Just not my cup of tea. If it wasn't so generic looking, I could probably get into it. But if I wanted a "truely immersive, open-ended experience" with elves, orcs and all those other standard fantasy cliches, I'd play Everquest. At least there's a chance I'd get to cyber or something...

Pity it's impossible for you to distinguish between a tongue-in cheek statement and a serious one despite the presence of a smiley.

Don't tell me, looking at that smiley you ACTUALLY thought I was "sad" when I said that bit about fearing for your sanity.

But of course it does. :ninja:
