i think i just realized today how disappointing the flash books have been for quite a while now.

I agree. I think the book has been lots of fun lately. The whole forced evolution and aging thing with kids has been a bit confusing.....but I like how overall its been 1 or 2 issue arcs, with Wally meeting his old villains, but now having to deal with his kids in the mix.

I loved the last issue. Peyer tied his whole arc together quite nicely. I was worried that he'd just leave the Spin subplot dangling, but he closed it off in a pretty cool way that reminded me of how the Flash is "the likeable superhero." Superman's the guy everyone looks up to, Batman's the guy everyone fears, but the Flash is the guy anyone could just be buddies with. He's like the superhero next door.

All they need is the rest of Waid's run and the best content of Wally West's storied tenure as the Flash will all be collected.

LITG on the fate of the current Flash series:

"Detective Comics" and "Batman" aren't the only titles going on a short sabbatical while another title takes their place. It looks like yes, "The Flash" will also disappear, replaced by the previously announced "Flash Rebirth" mini-series, before kicking off again with a new Flash series. With a new Flash.

I feel iffy on this. It seems like they're repeating the Green Lantern route with Flash, which is a good thing since Green Lantern is a really good book and is working sales wise, why not repeat the same success?

But on the other hand why not just combine the 350 issues of Barry and Jays' series with Wally's series and Bart's series? Especially since the Flash is more of a legacy.

EVS already said that on WordBalloon... LITG is getting lazy.

While I'm getting psyched up for "Flash: Rebirth".....what do people think of the previous Johns/Van Sciver Flash collaboration, "The Flash: Iron Heights"? Does it come recommended?

Pretty much the entire run is great. Get it. Get it now.

I've read some of Johns' run on "The Flash". I joined in during "Rogues War", quite late in the game. But I went back and bought the "Blitz" TPB, and the "Rogues" TPB, largely just for the Captain Cold story. I also went back and got the Mirror Master one-shot too. It was Geoff Johns' work on The Flash that made me a fan - both of the character and the writer - in the first place.

But yeah, the completist in me is now wanting to go back and get the rest of Johns' run on "The Flash". Anyone have a list of TPBs that contains this run?

Alas, poor Flash. Nice knowin' ya.

Well, acting upon the recommendations of Anubis - as well as my own interest in reading more of Johns' Flash, of course - I went out and bought a couple of TPBs. Now, bear in mind I've only heard general praise for Johns' run on "The Flash", and don't know what arcs/issues are considered his best. The ones that I mainly saw singled out for praise were "Blitz" and the Captain Cold one-shot, and I already had both. So, in buying these TPBs today, I was acting mainly just on a skim through the art inside and the plot descriptions of the blurb on the back, rather than any real knowledge of how they were received by fans and critics. So, here is what I bought:

BLOOD WILL RUN
The main reason I bought this, was because "Iron Heights" - the previous Johns/Van Sciver collaboration I mentioned wanting to pick up - was included as part of the TPB. But it also seems to have a two-part Weather Wizard story, and "Rogues' Revenge" has left me wanting to read more of that particular character.

WONDERLAND
It said in the blurb that this was Johns' first ever arc on "The Flash", which piqued my interest. Plus, a glance inside seemed to show Captain Cold and Mirror Master - my two favourite Rogues - as being heavily featured in the storyline. So I decided to give it a go.

So, did I make good choices? Or did I make a boo-boo?

those are both awsome choices i love everything from Geoff Johns run on The Flash

Both of those are good. I'm a bigger fan of Waid's run on The Flash than Johns', but Johns' is still a very close second. Millar and Morrison's run (a trade of which will be released shortly) is not far behind those, as well.

I don't know if I can get into a Barry Allen Flash anymore...

I mean... he WAS the Flash when I was a kid... the first 12 years of my comic reading life had a Barry Allen Flash... then I watched him die a very geroic death, and then I saw his young sidekick take on the mantle... and then over the next 20 years, I saw Wally become THE Flash...

I think it's time to shut the book down...
