Think of it this way -- Wally will continue to do what he's always done, continue and build the Flash legacy, only in ways more insanely epic in scope and adventure than ever. Barry is the Flash who started the spark, Wally is the one who fans the fire.

PS - At the market with my Dad and our order is MIA for Xmas dinner. ANOTHER Johns - Steve Johns - took ours by mistake. True story.

Nope. Jay Garrick started it all. Regardless!

No, but everyone at DC seems to consider Barry the first "important" Flash.
Jay deserves better, dammit.

Barry looked up to him, not the other way around.

I'm grateful Jay is still alive and active in JSA. He could be killed off to simplify things with the number of Flashes, but I think the comic book writers know he is a valuable character.

And the most important thing I could think of when it comes to Barry is that he just started rebooted the superhero comic genre. Barry started the silver age of superhero comics and open the flood gates for other superhero comics. Of course, they couldn't reboot The Flash without having Jay as the inspiration for 2nd Flash.

It's because of Barry Jay was even brought back. And how many people have to even be aware of Jay in order to know Barry or Wally? Or any of the stuff that goes on in the current Flash books for that matter? Barry is a reinvention of Jay, not a continuation of him, like Wally and Bart are to Barry. I love Jay, but realistically he is about as important as unused concept art for a movie as far as mainstream goes. Same goes for Alan Scott.

Did you seriously complain about the "lack of attention" Jay got when Wally's (very crappy) book was still running?

You mean the series that took him for an almost forgotten Golden Age relic to a well loved all-rounded character.

Yeah, Waid brought Jay back to the fore pretty well in his Flash run, along with Johns and Goyer on JSA.

Am I hearing this right? The Wally tie-in has been canceled or delayed or something?

Is there, um, some kind of reason for this? Other than that DiDio sustains himself by drinking fresh tears?

It seems Rebirth isn't setting the sales alight like they hoped so have scrapped plans for a big Flash multi-book series until they test the waters some more and maybe the audience grows - they also announced a Kid Flash book which will not happen either.

To keep the price down and maybe get people reading it they are leaving the Barry book at $2.99 instead of $3.99 that it would be with the Wally co-feature.

So because people don't quite salivate for Barry's bright red knob -- though I thought Rebirth was doing just fine, but what do I know, I don't sell comics -- they're going to cancel...Wally's second-feature. And Bart's. Huh. I suppose they suscribe to the "It's still a clever strategy if no one sees it coming!" school of planning.

Hey you know what might help Rebirth's sales? It should totally, like, come out or something. They could actually sell it. That might help sales.

Tell it to Van Sciver.

Anyway, Johns has indicated that there's another big Flash deal in 2011, I think, so they may just be holding off on expanding the Flash franchise for that.

Barry is the one who created most of the mythos that people associate with the Flash though.

Look at Jay's costume its pretty stupid looking, that's why when most people think of the Flash, they think of the Silver age costume. That's why Jay will play either a supporting role or no role at all in a Flash movie.

I'm sorry but that Tin Hat and Lightning Bolt is as iconic as costumes come.
