I didn't think Acuna's work was that suited to the Flash, but I didn't think it was terrible.

I thought it was beautiful, but yeah, this book has a lot of character moments and touchy feely family scenes that Acuna wasn't really geared towards.

We are obviously at the top echelons of the comic book community. :o

Where the hell is this "insane volume of hatred" coming from? I haven't seen it from any of the boards I visit. There's no more btching about the series than there is about any other. Quit being a tard and go back to writing this title, Waid! :cmad::mad::dry::(

I don't like the general style that Acuna works in. It just looks ugly and clunky and static. There's no motion or dynamicism to it at all. It looks like sculpture.

Wally having hyperaged kids?
No, I didn't particularly take a shine to that, no.

The boy being named Jai, instead of, let's just say, Barry?
Come to think of it, that IS kind of a dumb name.

The kids being two different ages?
Kinda stupid.

I appreciate Waid trying to be innovative with what the Speed Force can mean for someone, but not with the Flash's kids, OK?

Newsarama. It was just one giant ***** fest when it came to Acuna.

Eh, it's a shame Waid is leaving but I don't mind it too much. As much as I love Waid's Wally, his stories just haven't been up to snuff this time. I don't think he's as terrible as, say, GAH, who's apparently offended by Waid's very name now, but I think Waid could probably do with a break to reassess whatever he needs to about superheroes.

Just read the most recent issue and wow, I don't think I'll be around for this book much longer. And that's not even mentioning the art

Who has been off the title since, like, four pages in.

The series isn't selling that badly, either. Maybe not what one would expect a Waid series to sell, but within the top fifty is still pretty damn good. I suspect Waid might be one of those writers who for once don't pay attention to the sales charts but, damn, maybe he actually should.

He's been doing fine on Brave and the Bold, really, so...*shrug*

Can't he just say "I'm doing a lot of work at BOOM and just can't commit to two monthlies".

That's the real excuse, not "Newsarama posters are idiots".

I suspect DC wants the Flash to be as big as Green Lantern has become--something to expand the trinity to the quintet. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, GL, and Flash are generally regarded as DC's "big" franchises, so maybe Waid doesn't feel he's living up to that standard, even with those sales.

Have we seen Wonder Woman's sales, like ever?

...

...actually, she outsold Flash as of November.

BUT THE POINT STANDS!:(

That's basically where I'm at. I have my problems with the kids, as I mentioned above, but really, a guy like Waid should have been able to make me not care about that, because Wally West and the Flash are pretty important to me, and I want to enjoy their stories, and I certainly want to enjoy Mark Waid's writing. I think part of the problem was that it was just a little too much of a team book. Put out a Flash Family book under the Johnny DC label if you want to do something like that. I think that might do well with the childkids. Hell--I might even have enjoyed it, because it wouldn't have been in-continuity, it would have been just a fun kiddie book like the DCAU spinoffs always have been. But making the mainline Flash book into a family team book...well, it just wasn't what I was looking for. It's fine for Wally to have a family, but it's annoying to have them invade his adventures.

I like the kids though, and I like that he's training them. I mean, I did not want to see another Baby May situation.

Wally already made the world forget his secret identity though. He's years ahead of Spider-Man.

Spider-Man's had rapid-aging twins in his book. In some ways, he's ahead of Wally:O.

Couldn't we maybe just see that in backup tales or something, then? I mean, I wanna read about the Flash, you know?

Yes, and we are reading about The Flash, you know? He just happens to have a family now which adds a new dynamic. Maybe, they can focus on Wally himself a bit more, but I like seeing Wally the family man. I see nothing wrong with it.

I just don't feel like I need to see all the day-to-day doins of Wally West.

I don't see a conflict, myself. I think there could be a little bit more Wally ass-kickage in each issue, but I don't mind the fundamental shift towards being a book about a family of superheroes rather than just one superhero. I think in a couple of years, when his kids are speedsters and actually know what the hell they're doing more often, it'll start to feel a lot like the old Wally/Bart dynamic with the speedster squad.
