I thought it was supposed to be ambiguous that the kid was dead? I can't recall it exactly, but I thought the kid vanished in a flash in Kid Zoom's hands, leaving him as surprised as anyone. Didn't Johns already play with Weather Wizard's son having brewing powers?

Yes, Weather Wizard's baby has powers because Wally was unsure if it was his lovechild. It turned out to be Weather Wizard's baby and he wanted him back to see how the baby had the weather controlling powers without a wand. I thought they had it reconned that he didn't need the wand at one point, but then they gave it back to him for some reason.

In Rogues Revenge, they have the baby disappear out of nowhere in a cloud of smoke. Like other members mentioned, its very ambiguous

Don't forget to add to the list of baby killings, Mera giving her zombie baby a hot blood vomiting bath. Does it not count as a baby killing because the baby was an reanimated zombie?

I say it counts.

''Source Special: Geoff Johns talks the Flash, PART 2''

Alex Segura: Let’s talk about Francis Manapul for a second. He brings a very neo-classical look to THE FLASH and his previous work in ADVENTURE. He’s got the goods — excellent storytelling, stunning splash pages/covers and a style that is both fresh but also rooted in the classics. What makes him the perfect guy to relaunch THE FLASH with? What’s it like working with him?

Geoff Johns: Francis Manapul brings a renewed energy to the world of the Flash and in particular Barry Allen. We’re really looking at this book as taking place firmly in the present (unless the cosmic treadmill is involved) and moving the Flash, his supporting cast and the Rogues into the future. Francis is key to that. His work really speaks for itself, but the energy he’s given the Flash — and you can see it in just a few of the sample pages — is undeniable. His Barry Allen is earnest, smart, strong and methodical. His Flash never stops. I’m honored to be teamed up with such a fantastic artist on the first ever Barry Allen Flash #1 issue. Couldn’t ask for more.

AS: Now, it’s obvious you’re no stranger to the world of The Flash, with your previous, lengthy run on the book, which dealt mainly with Wally West and his role. In many ways, you created very strong connections and parallels between Wally and Barry: the Rogues, the return of Wally’s secret identity and the roots of the Flash stretching backward and forward in time. How are the other characters who’ve been called Flash going to fit into the new book? Are we going to see them crop up later, with the first few arcs cementing Barry in his new/old role?

GJ: You’ll have to be patient to see the other heroes and villains who tap into the Speed Force show up. There’s a story, a big one, but we won’t get there right away. I love long term planning and this is a book I have a story to tell. More will be clear in issue #1.

AS: Going back a bit to Barry’s history — what are the stories that stand out for you as the best examples of what you’re trying to do with this chapter of THE FLASH? Did any in particular provide some inspiration?

GJ: I don’t want to select a single story. It’s more the inception of the character and the creation of a new age of heroes. Barry Allen, for me, represents that optimism and forward thinking that reignited superheroes in the first place. Our approach to the book isn’t what a lot of people will expect, especially with that story title of the first arc - CASE ONE: THE DASTARDLY DEATH OF THE ROGUES. There are a lot of mysteries here and a lot of crimes to solve and crimes to stop.

There’s an exploration of speed and what it does to us today, how we can succumb to it or be seduced by it. What do we have time for in our “busy” lives? Are we really too busy we have to send text messages instead of calling someone? Or is it easier to keep in touch with our loved ones that way? Do we need more hours in the day or do we need to stop overfilling up the hours we have? What is speed? What is time? What does it all mean to us in our lives day-to-day and year-to-year?

AS: In closing, I’d like to tap into your inner fan a bit. How exciting is it to be bringing back such a beloved character to the DCU? Are there any moments that you’ve written or seen on the finished page that have made you stop for a second and smile? What can readers expect from THE FLASH book that’ll hook them?
GJ: The last page of issue #1. That oughta do it.

Completely new to FLASH... what are the QUINTESSENTIAL Flash books to get? Where do I start?

I like

The Flash: Born to Run
The Flash: Blitz
The Flash: Ignition
The Flash: The Secret of Barry Allen
The Flash: Rogue War

I know it's probably blasphemy for a comics fan to say this but: I REALLY don't like Geoff Johns work. At all

That said, the exception to that rule is the Flash ongoing, where he did such a good job making the Rogues into credible villains. And I'm looking forward to seeing what he's got planned for all of them now :woot:

I just found out the ending of Rebirth was "meh I like it that my Mom was murdered by Thawne and my Father framed for it". Instead of restoring the timeline (like you know, a superhero would do).

I just wanted to take the time to laugh at how ******ed that is.

Thank you.

And that is the problem with time traveling. You fix one event or come in contact with someone, it changes history. Barry probably would have not become a forensic scientist,
been in the police lab on the day he became the Flash, met Iris, etc. if he did alter the timeline. Barry knew the implications of changing the past because he frequently dealt with time travel thanks to the cosmic treadmill and that is probably why he didn't save his mom and prevented his father from being framed.

No, that's not correct.

The original timeline is what it was before Thawne went back and changed it - he would have no reason to change the timeline if Barry wasn't the Flash.

The original timeline is Barry origins before this retcon of his parents murder/framing. The original comics stories when Barry is the Flash and he met Iris was in place until this miniseries - the only difference is Barry now has a shade of grimdark in his past that Barry himself could actually fix.

Kinda makes me wonder about that time that the Top was in Barry's dad's body and doing his crazy s**t. I guess that event is just erased from Top's résumé. Poo. :csad:

I like

The Flash: Born to Run
The Flash: Blitz
The Flash: Ignition
The Flash: The Secret of Barry Allen
The Flash: Rogue War

I've been trying to find Blitz and Ignition for soooo long. But they're out of print. And even on Amazon, I can't seem find a copy that's less than about 30 bucks. :cmad:

That's because Geoff Johns IS Zoom pretty much. He thinks a hero has to have tragedy to be a proper hero. Just a quick glance at the characters he's written bears that out

Kid Flash: Knee capped. Becomes more serious about being a hero
Superboy: Finds out he's cloned from a psychotic billionaire. Becomes more serious about being a hero
Damage: Has his face obliterated. Becomes more...

Oh do I need to go on?:woot: Close to EVERY character Johns has written has had some gratutitous tragedy either happen to them in modern times or retconned into their past. It's one of the reasons I REALLY don't like the guys work

He didn't fix it? What the f***? How did that work?

Well you see knowing for sure that his father didn't commit the murder of his mother gave him enough peace of mind that he could move on with his life. He didn't need to actually save his mother's life or rescue his father from a lifetime in prison because now he had peace of mind.:o

Wow. And Johns actually claims to like Barry? I shudder to think how he'd write an alleged hero he didn't like...

Barry was slow as a kid? OH, IRONY! The only thing better would be if he grows up to always be late everywhere, even after he gets super-speed! :awesome:

I find strange that he seems to be running in terror at first, then as soon as they mention his shoes he's ready for a fight, complete with angry-'bout-to-go-mad-hero-on-your-ass face.
