Why not capatalise on the fact that the Flash is a legacy hero and go the whole hog? You could setup that Barry is the Flash and Wally is his partner, and Barry goes missing. Wally then take up the mantle and begins an investigation that brings him up against some of the Rouges (the culprits). Jay Garrick would be the first Flash and an aged mentor-type. That way you kind of adapt Barry's death and return and Wally's transition from Flash to Kid Flash in one film that is still an origin story, of sorts.

If there were a sequel, you could introduce Bart into the mix, but frankly I think there's too many Flashes around as it is. Jay should really have died and been replaced by an aged Barry when Barry (ugh!) returned to life, with Wally as Flash and Bart back as Impulse (not Kid Flash).

But whatever.

Goyer's script played with the idea of the legacy. And the Justice League script too, had Barry die and Wally take on the mantle.

well whos to say we would see the legacy aspect of flash used during the course of flash film series. Its alot easier to non fans and others to start flash off with barry, lead into wally, and throw jay in there as some nod/past deal and go on from there. I said it before i would hate to come in already and flash been around for ages and we didnt get to see how things came to be at all.

OK, I may get flamed for even suggesting this, but for Barry Allen:

Matthew Morrison.

I know he's on Glee, but during the whole time I've watched the show, he displays some, if not any, Barry Allen qualities. Oh, and the Glee people can do more than just sing! It's not like Glee is a Disney property!

BTW, I think Glee has transended the 'Disney' crowd because I think it's a remarkable show. I'm not a musical person but the show is enjoyable and I can see the appeal.

Matthew Morrison for Barry. This is what I'm talking about: A dude who's down to Earth and who's willing to do the right thing. But also, he's charming and funny. Works for me.

I was watching Glee for a while, thanks to my friend who loves it. When news struck that The Flash got new writers for the script, I thought about who could play Barry. I thought of Paul Rudd, or someone like him. Then it hit me with Matthew.

He's got a good jawline for a superhero too. I could work with him as Barry.

How about Cam Gigandet for Barry Allen / The Flash.

And Felicia Day for Iris West.

Screenwriter Offers 'Green Lantern 2' And 'Flash' Movie Updates
Posted 3 hrs ago by Blair Marnell in DC Comics, News

Earlier this summer, word broke that Greg Berlanti, Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim — the screenwriting team behind the first "Green Lantern" movie — had signed a deal to write a treatment for both "Green Lantern 2" and "The Flash" before going to write the screenplay for one of those projects. And it now appears that the trio may have already moved on to wring the script for "The Flash."

When asked by Collider when "The Flash" would be happening, Berlanti replied "We’re just getting into the script. We’re just starting the script, so that’s about where we’re at."

Berlanti also spoke about preparing for the "Green Lantern" sequel while crafting the first movie. "We actually treated ['Green Lantern'] a lot like the first year of a series," related Berlanti. "When we did the first movie, just because we did want to lay stuff out, to deal with the mythology in that way. Writing for series helped us in that, in terms of thinking about stuff as just the beginning, but also part of a chapter, as much as anything else."

Although director Martin Campbell's "Green Lantern" won't be out in theaters until early next summer, Berlanti was effusive with his praise for the film.

"It’s a feast for the eyes. Martin Campbell is an amazing director, and it’s going to be a pretty incredible film," gushed Berlanti. "I think [the Comic-Con footage was] just a taste. They’re still shooting. They’re shooting this week."

Berlanti also explained how he and his writing partners approached the Green Lantern constructs created by Jordan and the other Lanterns within the movie.

"When we were first writing ['Green Lantern'], we were a little timid about writing all of it into the script because we thought, 'How will that read? Will they think it’s too goofy?' So, in one of the initial drafts, we wrote a lot of, 'A ring blast,' or 'A shot from the ring.' We didn’t always get as detailed with it. And then, as we got later and later into drafts, and they could provide more artwork and really show people what the movie could be, we could be more explicit about what those things were without it coming off too goofy."

"Green Lantern" will shine in theaters on June 17, 2011.

What are your thoughts on Berlanti's approach to "Green Lantern"? Should "The Flash" come before "Green Lantern 2"? If Ryan Reynolds were to play The Flash, would he team up with himself as Green Lantern? Call down your power rings and let us know what you're thinking in the comment section or on Twitter!

There's not much to speak of, when it comes down to the script since it's so early in the game. I'm not worried as long as Geoff is there to supervise the script.

And I really think they need him more for this script than Green Lantern, to a certain degree. Johns has written Green Lantern since 2004, so there's a wealth of stories and characters to draw upon.

Whereas with Barry, he's been missing for 25 years and he barely came back. It's hard to draw upon Barry from the Silver Age because let's face it, comic books were not that sophisticated (or character centric) as they were now or even the 80s.

So Geoff is the dude to talk to since he knows where he's going with Barry from this point on. With his personality and arcs.

I wonder what happend with the previous script that johns and muzeau were working on and if berlanti and co. are cleaning that up or starting from scratch. Geoff johns did say he wanted to write a flash secret origin and I'm sure they're going to be basing the film on that, especially if he is a producer on the film as well. With this recent development though I guess it fair to say that the earliest flash will be out is 2013 and I'm sure that it is going to be heavily dependent on how well green lantern does.

There was an interview that asked Berlanti if he's starting from scratch and I think he said yes. At first I felt bad for Dan Muzeau, he being a younger and newer writer, but he just hooked up with a writing gig for Clash of the Titans 2. Guess who's the producer/guidence on that? Greg Berlanti. So it's not too bad.

Yeah, Green Lantern will play a role in how or when the other movies will get made but..I feel like once the WB watches an early cut and loves it, they'll jump right into FLash without thinking twice.

Well they have a good year to write the script for the flash, but i definately think your right in that if WB likes the cut of the film they'll go ahead with it. Problem is though if GL fails they could axe the flash very quickly, especially if it has a massive budget.

I doubt they would only because of the formation of DC Entertainment and the fact they no longer have Harry Poter, a decade's worth of a running series or franchise.

Also, there's 'rumors' about Green Lantern and how it ties into Justice League....just rumors, so it's a very important film. I cannot fail!

I wondered about that too, since Johns seemed to be happy with the progress of Mazeau's script and seemed to be working closely with him on it.

Maybe Berlanti, Green and Guggenheim are doing what they did with Green Lantern- they are writing more of a broader story for Flash, that can be made into three movies. There is a lot to cover. Having the same team working on both series can be helpful for a shared universe too.

I have always said that Zachary Levi would make an awesome Barry Allen! AWESOME NEWS!

In case you missed it, in the Greg Berlanti Comic-Con interview (http://www.superherohype.com/features/articles/104723-sdcc-video-exclusive-green-lantern-writerproducer-greg-berlanti)

he talks about the new Flash story being an original and fresh take from the old script, how he wants to give it scope like the GL script, and about Hal and Barry meeting up in the future.
