Bad writing is still bad writing. I'm like "Yay Gambit!" when I see his name come up but then when I read it, I'm like.. "So..?" He's just being tossed around, not being his usual Gambit self. It is disappointing and I'm not afraid to say so, especially when Carey had promised us Gambit fans a joy he has failed to deliver. :(
There's nothing wrong with saying it... But over and over again? And even when something cool does happen to him you never seem to admit it. Its always negativity.

I was there for the glory days of yore. Days that seem to have passed. I will probably complain until he gets some real use or when he gets another ongoing. It seems like the ongoings were the only place after the Trail that he got some real play and development. All he's done since then is moon after Rogue and get tossed around. I miss cool Gambit. :(

I can't think of the last time since that last ongoing was cancelled that he had an oh yeah moment, like at the card table in Wolverine. The last I can think of perhaps, is maybe that shower scene with Foxx. Other then that... :(

EDIT: No not even, that because that was just him being naked. The last oh yeah moment might have been the training exercise he had in that ish or the one before that with some of the newer kids where he was knocking them flat, complaining that they had no spark, no "elan" as he puit in it, when they trained. That they lacked the simple joy of the phycial exertion of the fight and the elation of the moment. I'll have to go scan that... THAT was probably the last I've seen of the real badass Gambit, the Theif and not the lapdog.

And well, maybe just a little of his old self here at the start of Legacy:

Oh, Gambit. Where art thou? :(

Well can you believe he answered my follow up question/comment.

Well I guess it is back to Limbo then, since most of the other writers at marvel admitted to not wanting to use him and even liking the character. Thanks for the answer. At least I still have X-men Forever to get my Gambit fix.

Cheers, Anya. Glad you enjoyed the book (and thanks for the kind words, Matt).

Don’t – really, don’t – give up hope on the Gambit front. My back-up story for the Annual was approved, and it’s going to tease an ongoing mystery/crisis for Gambit, which will make it almost inevitable that you’ll see him again in a big role in 2010. Honest. I may even get to write it.

Ehh... While it's something to look forward to, I suppose, I'm going to have to wait it out. I'm convinced Gambit's first run on Legacy only existed to sell books to Gambit fans, and a quick Gambit-centric back up story in the Annual would certainly take a few more issues off the stands.

A big role in 2010? All I see in that sentence is the "almost" part. But we'll see, I guess. Certainly sounds like it's back to Limbo for Gambit after Legacy 227 and the Annual though. Until 2010 at that.

I can't even remember the last time Gambit's role in anything was "big" (and Messiah Complex doesn't count, since the way Marvel wrote it Gambit could have legitimately not existed in the story... You have to kind of infer his influence on the whole thing). But, I'll hold out hope that Carey's for real, as always. With Sinister gone-ish and Apocalypse hopefully not returning to Marvel Comics in quite awhile after that last disaster, I'm curious to at least see what kind of Crisis/Mystery Carey cooks up for Remy, since I'm going to assume it somehow ties to Gambit's past.

Ugh. At least he's looking like he'll be in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2.

I wondering if this part of his statement is concerning marvel, they have a habit of changing ideas a lot. I read somewhere originally he wanted to have Gambit take out Mystique at the end of Messiah Complex but Marvel canceled it, and instead had a mini with Wolverine doing it. Hence why Gambit did jack at the end of Messiah complex except stand around. I am starting to think if marvel sticks to the original idea, Gambit will have a big part next year and if they change it well really nothing is new and we have to wait again.

Hey guys. The results are in. X-men Origins Gambit placed 76th on the comic book sales charts. I guess some may be disappointed, but I'm not really. I expected it. I think its pretty good when you consider how much he is ignored and never really does anything special in the comics these days.

Jeez. That is really depressing. I can see why Marvel doesn't do anything with him anymore; no one cares anymore, his day is done.

As for Carey's promises, meh. Just, meh. They're really not worth getting worked up for, that much I've learned. If something happens, then welcome it, but don't get your hopes up before the other boot comes down.

Well, in all honesty, Marvel hasn't really given people a reason to care about Gambit anymore. He doesn't do anything in the comics in which he appears (when he does appear that is). Even a very popular character will decline if subjected to poor writing and the scorn of writers.
I guess that you could say that Gambit was in the movie so his sales should be better, but he was only in it for like 15 minutes and, again, really doesn't do all that much - oh! Except get beat up quickly by Wolverine.

Well if Gambit origins came out when it was supposed to, a month earlier, I think it would have done better. I think most of the hype from the movie was gone by the time Carey finished it. I say if it came out a month earlier you could have added 20,000 to the sales but instead all they had with Gambit in it was legacy and that month sales jumped up 20,000. But of course this is just my opinion.

76th? ouch! My local comic shop hadn't even ordered it so had to get my copy online. I actually liked it.

Anyone else think Gambit really REALLY needs a makeover. Hes looking more and more like a hobo each time i see him (which is strange as his costume hasn't changed in practically 20 years)

He needs something younger and fresher. Something more like his movie counterpart imo. Any ideas?

What he really needs is a good writer. So many lost opportunities like when he was temporarily blinded, he once had a sort of vision when he was holding one of his cards. They could have done something cool with that. They could have shown him going undercover as one of Apoc's Horsemen instead of volunteering which he never would have done. He could also have been undercover with Sinister later.

They need to go forward and show him doing side missions for Cyke or the Professor or something, some kind of B+E or some such, something he would be uniquely suited for. That would revive interest in him.

Marvel's too busy cramming the same group of characters into every single X-book to think of something like this. :whatever:

So true. There is a specific group of characters that seem to get jammed into every storyline. That's why X-men Forever is kinda refreshing for me.

It's not just the storylines... Drives me nuts that we have characters doing double and triple duty as regulars in books when there are tons of mutants that aren't being paid any attention at all.

And then you take a flagship title like Adjectiveless, throw a new tag on it and turn it into a glorified solo title?

Fail.

well Claremont has some use for him and you can bet it wont be chasing after Rogue

There've already been hints of Romy in Forever...
Hints, but I don't think its gonna be too hot and heavy. At least, not for a while.

Looks like a completely new costume. Maybe it'll catch on in the books.
It looks to me like the same costume that he wore in his second on-going series with some weird things on the shoulders of his trenchcoat.

I'm not digging the shoulder straps they've thrown on there. Among other things, they definitively have the "X" logo... something Gambit has very rarely adorned in his career.

But whatever. He's in the game! There's footage! Yes!

And besides, every character gets at least 1 alternate skin. I'd personally like to see something along the lines of his X-Treme costume, but I imagine it'll be his classic.

Or maybe a movie-version costume? That'd be different, and would appeal to the common fans who saw "Wolverine" (which wouldn't be bad, seeing as how it's one of the main reasons he's in the game).

Ah, beat me to it. I found the vid on IGN too.

I like the look. Not perfect but definitely in keeping with the level of detail they've put into all the characters. The straps are a bit odd but most of the costume has an almost real world feel to it, much like Deadpool's costume (which I quite like also).

Can't wait to hear how Gambit sounds. Hopefully in a similar vein to the movie or 90's cartoon and not like Phil LaMarr's Gambit (Wolverine and the X-men). Not that I found his acting bad, I just didn't think it sounded right in terms of accent.

I wonder. Is it too much for me to hope that they might have Jubilee in it again? Or is she just way too cult status of a character?

You know how they have a picture of something related to the character for their character profile on the MUA site, like Jean has a phoenix logo or whatever?

They managed to fit in a pic of Rogue for Gambit's profile. I can only laugh.
