I'm sorry I stopped buying books around the other summers brother debacle..

1. In 616 Is remy scott's brother,son or clone?

2. Anotomically it should be the same non?

3. If so wouldn't that make him related to cable?

On another note I thought the summers brothers are impervious to each others kinetic enegy/power blasts since all their powers are supposedly solar based?:trans:
Claremont's original plan, one revealed in X-Men: The End, was that Gambit was genetically engineered by Sinister who used DNA from both Scott and Sinister himself. Sinister has long life because he jumps his consciousness into a younger body when he gets old. The plan was that Gambit was grown to be Sinister's next body. Something interfered with that, I think the Thieves' Guild stole him from Sinister for some other guy (can't think of his name) and Sinister's plans were thwarted. That having been said, I don't know if that makes Gambit a brother, a son, or what. He's not a pure clone becuase of the addition of Sinister's own DNA, but it would make him related to Cable, yes. Of course, since this was spelled out in The End, none of this is canon, per se. So who knows?

Let's put it this way. X-men The End to the regular X-men is what Superman Returns is to Donner's Superman. :D

Actually, what we saw in X-Men: The End was a variation of Claremont's original plans for Gambit.

See, at first he wanted to reveal that Gambit and Sinister were both corporeal astral projections that stemmed from the mind of a child that Cyclops spent time in the orphanage with... Gambit would have been the "good" projection, Sinister the "evil" one.

That would have made even the events of The End seem normal and realistic...

Both sound lame. I'd like to see a proper and more realistic origins done myself.

Gambit is a kid's wet dream?

I thought he was just MY wet dream. :D

Yeah, I'd take the Sinister/Summer Clone over that one.

You know things are bad when you have to choose between being an astral projection or a Sinister/Summer clone. :)

At least he didn't turn out to be either. Of course, they could **** it up just as easily later on.

Yeah, dat boy needs to retire and soon. :( Blech.

They could have gotten rid of all of this garbage had they just gone ahead and made him the third Summers brother... I mean, there's a great case for it, and the story would have actually been believable.

Instead we got Vulcan, who was exiled to limbo rather quickly.

Screw all that third Summers brother and Sinister clone crap! Either Sinister is his biological father or Gambit doesn't know his biological parents. I hate it when they try to connect characters for no reason.

Well, I by no means want it to happen now. But I would have accepted it in the 90's. We knew there were more Summers out there, and Gambit fit the profile of one.

Now though... I can't even begin to imagine what kind of heritage they'll give Gambit when they explore his origins... Apocalypse hinted at something, but that could go a lot of different ways.

Ah, come on, Remy *totally* qualifies as a Summers.

Tough guy with LOTS of issues? Check.

Doing a bad job at dealing with aforementioned issues? Check.

Being kind of a dick? Check.

Dating a nutjob? Check.

Bonus points for the angst/brooding? Check.

Really, it doesn't get any more Summers than this. :D

Cheating bastard? Check :)

Didn't include it since I don't recall that prereq applying to Corsair.

But, yeah, totally for the Summers boys. :woot:

Ha. Ditto on that.

Notice how quick it took them to put Vulcan with Deathbird, just to drive the point home.

Eh. Say what you want about Bru and his treatment of the Summers lore, he still *gets* some of it.

Subtle, Bru. :woot:

Not to mention the Summers are the only ones that seem to get married. Or rather in Alex's case, attempt to.

And again, Gambit qualifies there too. Even killed his brother-in-law afterwards. True to form, eh?

More or less.

Though Julien technically is alive in some fashion or another, isn't he? His storyline is long dead, but I think he still exists.

LOL, so very true. :D

Well, from what I've heard, Carey seems to be the one who will be exploring Gambit's origin in 2008, possibly during a mini or solo attempt for the character. I hope Carey plays to his strengths as a noir writer and weaves a backstory that can take all the Guild stuff and make it less hokey and a bit more realistic(such as making him the abandoned child of two superstitious humans).

But knowing Marvel, they're going to do something extemely convolouted and confusing that makes little sense and creates pointless "connections" that no one wants(such as making him part of Clan Akkuba like they did to Chamber).

I can't complain about Carey, I've liked his Gambit -- so far. Maybe he can get the job done for us without going too far off the edge.

As long as they don't get too mystical I think I could handle whatever Carey comes up with...

I mean, the Guild stuff is so whacked out that I fear Marvel would want an origin to match it.

On another board, a poster mentioned that Carey might be writing a solo mini/ongoing.

So it could be Gambit, at least there's a chance. And yeah, I trust Carey not to make it too convoluted.

I guess at this point they've teased it enough so that anything normal is out the window.
